We got a quarter inch of rain and 70-80 mph straight line winds last night. This morning it's 57 F and 25-35 sustained, 50 mpg gust. Warning until 5 pm this evening.

(90.4% fluid exchange) I pause here for a bit. It would take the same amount of fluid to reach 99.1%. That is some crazy die they use in the Mitsubishi fluid. Never did turn RL Yellow but it did lighten and clarify.

(83 % fluid exchange) Subjective notes. This is my first CVT and as it is impossible to know what you don't; my ignorance prevented me from realizing just how poorly these things can work and still be 'Okay' according to the OEM. Operational quality is very much improved. Smoother. More responsive. Less (None now) complaining getting up to speed. Secondly, does anything smell as foul as CVT fluid? New or used this stuff stinks. Both brands. Yuck Objective notes: This fluid has a pronouncedly lower -40C Brookfield Viscosity and this is very noticeable on sub 32 F/ 0C days. An absolute game changer. Comment: After further poking around in the woodpile I see that AMSOIL CVT fluid has an even lower -40 C Brookfield and a fractionally higher 100 C viscosity. I don't know that it is enough different from Red Line Non-Slip CVT to get an additional noticeable step change as I did moving from Mitsubishi fluid. But, it would also be a solid choice and an marginally larger change from the Mitsubishi fluid.

The problem with over filling is windage. Foams the oil and then you loose oil pressure. But this happens when she's wound up a bit like when towing and you have her singing over 4K for awhile or you spin it to red line passing. There's an "The Oil Geek" dyno video for that. Bearings are not fond of foam. That said if you weren't thrashing it....

Rained steady for two days but only laid down an inch. Wind was nuts though. Then we got a dusting of snow on the backside and cold enough to make the house creak a bit. This morning all the snow is gone. Mid teen winds and a bit over freezing. We got off light. Watching the news it was hard to believe it was the same storm system. Eye passed right over us.

I have a 2015 Flex Fuel 4.3 that I've been running E-85 in for a few years now. Gains are more modest in the absolute but percentage wise the same. So my backside didn't notice any OMG moments but it is friskier on the on ramps. 1.) Motor runs cooler oil temps. 2.) KR is never triggered on any hill in any weather as long a ethanol percentage is over 50%. Didn't do that even on Shell V Power Nitro + 93. 3.) Oil stays cleaner much longer. 4.) Tail pipe is soot free. 5.) In cold weather I found mixes over 70% would have the motor spin a few more times before it caught fire. Backing the ethanol content down to 40-50% cures that. At least to -20 F. 6.) Cost me about 28-30% of my mpg which makes it a bust compared to regular but a winner compared to Premium. 7.) My truck runs okay on regular but i use it anyway for the first four on this list.

Based on casual observations or indications rather than rigorous or scientific analysis. The fight to refute the idea that wearing a blue socks caused it to rain today (because you did and it did)...sort of thinking. Mr. XYZ ran a vehicle, heck, ran a dozen vehicles over 200K without a whimper is the claim made. Great! Did you open them up and have a look? Did you do any measurements? No?.... So what basis is there for the causation for the correlation? Did you keep track along the way? No? So...anecdotal....And willing to fight to the death for it. Drove all those miles and for what???? Some one else does and provides the receipts and Doubting Debbie shouts, "It ain't so". Then we go on for days back and forth proving the alphabet so we can make words so we....... Just like BITOG and why I never joint that one. Silly and fruitless arguments.

I didn't participate the Revolutionary War and never met George but I believe it happened. Notes were kept. My post was toward the OEM line of motor oils only. AMSOIL has many very good products and their gear oils are some of the best. Motorsport oils are quite different than the OEM line. This tread is based on that comparison, right? A mineral based oil, Castrol to another mineral based oil, AMSOIL OEM, both of the same licenses and SAE grade. Apples to apples. Perhaps not information you are interested in but you know me.... The OE line does not have a DEXOS LICENSE and there is a reason that makes that matter in explaining the 'quite' you experience. DEXOS1Gen2/3 is an 'energy conserving oil" so those with a license hug the basement in viscosity for their grade. OE is 'recommended for" and testing is done in "Comparison to" but it's specs are no where near the viscosity bottom which even when they have base oil 'type' read across and use the licensed add packages can not qualify as a Gen2/3 or ILSAC GF-6A fluid. Even thought the video testing did not bear out lower wear you will most certainly HEAR the difference. Same reason other Group III oils that meet C3 specs cannot meet GF-6 specs. Different minimum viscosity spec. (HTHS) different stability requirement. (SSI). But even give that, as a Group III product it cannot under any circumstances produce a Group IV result. Only a Group III result. @customboss and I both pointed out the test was short but the physics is long.

Okay, progress. It is what they wanted and achieved. Yes. And yet MARKETING keeps people ignorant and confused with claims of superior performance from the different labels of the same darn thing. Hoorah, Mobil got some solvency in a few cheap oils adding AN to a Group II/III blend that will not check the PAO boxes below. Havoline with some "Renewables". To get a superior lubricant you must use a truly superior base. Marketing 'claims' lesser bases are 'just as good' or nearly so. Not even close. Not even GTL/AN blends will check all the boxes below.... PAO 1.) Lower tractive force (friction) by over 10% which can be further lowered with a bit of POE or Diester if done right. 2.) Higher Thermal Capacity and Transfer Rates. 10 to 20%. 3.) Greater Oxidative resistance by about a third 4.) Higher natural VI. (apples to apples now) Those oils are not sold generally at Big Box outlets and not at $25 per five quart jugs. I've seen AMSOIL SS at Blains Farm and Fleet. AMSOIL SS and Euro, Red Line HP and HP Euro. Some HPL offerings, some Torco offerings, Some Ravoline offerings. Some MPT offerings. Some Gibbs Racing. PAO/POE blends. There are others if you turn over enough rocks. But all of these blenders also offer Box Store Oils at a premium price they don't deserve. Some are transparent and some are not. I don't shop the bottom shelves at Red Line nor AMSOIL. You've mentioned a few times that no one needs a POE's thermal protection. Translated oxidation resistance and yet it's that quality that can permit SAFE extension of the OCI putting pressure on some other limit of condemnation.

So, your conclusion is his conclusion is wrong? OR, You just like making fun of Kermit. All he really said was all Group III oils of the same viscosity with the same add package blended to the same specification or license do the same job no matter who's label is on the bottle. Specifically ILSAC GF-6 for SAE 5W30. If that ain't true, tell me and I'll buy an empty AMSOIL OE or Royal Purple bottle and pour some NAPA Gold into it before the next move to the motor. That's a magic bottle right there and worth the extra cash. SOLD!!!
