Pig Rich! When Dyson told me the 2400 ran "Pig Rich" as a cause for part of the fuel dilution issues and in addition tail pipes of a bunch of them concurred I was confused. Running monitored AFR's and LFT/STF readings didn't support that. As it turns out my eyes were not lying and neither was the tailpipe. Dyson's comment was just incomplete. Pig rich it is, but not during warm cycle driving. I learned something from a German Engineer friend recently. I was unaware that OEMS dump fuel during the cold start to preheat the catalyst system. Yea, burn fuel in the cat to get it hotter quicker. Cold enrichment well beyond that required for smooth cold starts. This is tied to the water temperature. For some vehicles this is accessible with programing (HP Tuners) and for others not. For those not there are means to trick the water temperature sensor with some interesting resistor arrangements. Can also be done with religious use of block heaters. Getting water temperature up about 20 C will trim enough fuel to kill bore killing over enrichment without interfering with cold starts. The latter method is even EPA/OEM friendly.

I must have jump a foot. He and his Mrs' wish us well and drive off. We stand there a minute and watch him shorten the on ramp toward Wisconsin. 1,000 plus horsepower will do that. Yes Several parts of the motor are protected with such screens. VLOM, Oil pump, VVT solenoids, vacuum pump. The intention is to catch debris that would damage or interfere with that parts job. Problem is that they also are a collection point for varnish which is not a solid but 'plates out' over hundreds of heat/cool cycles from oils either not polar enough to hold them in solution or in oils run so long they fall out of solution. That is reach their saturation point. Either way, the screen plugs over time and whatever is downstream starves.

I know this is an old post. Time is the YET in yet. In the 50's and 60's or my first 20 years on this planet I watched first hand relatives, dad and uncles, run motors on Group II oils of the period, Phillips Trop-Artic and Cen-Pe-Co to between 700K and 1 MILLION miles without issues and at end be as clean inside as the day they were built. Never stick a ring. Never rot a seal. The trick was the OCI. These were 500 to 1,000 mile OCI situations when oil was a quarter a quart and expectations were lower than a snakes belly in Death Valley. Have never seen a paraffin Group II do that at 2K OCI's. Oil, in general, isn't the issue....the OCI is. Matching the oil to the OCI is HUGE and it is also near impossible to do as the pressure from outside is so great and the human ego so fragile that doing what is needs instead of what your told is to heavy a burden to carry. Poor motors suffer our unwillingness to be sensible. If you are getting varnish color at your OCI it is to darn long. That isn't an opinion. Part of an oils job it CLEAN and if it can't keep it clean at your specific OCI shorten it or....don't. Neither of these are getting it done.

Took Jason's advice. Ran her a few hundred miles and it hit full charge. State of Health is over 95%. I expect this exceptional result is based in the way it is used. When down for long periods it gets a milliamp trickle charge. As most of the miles she sees are long haul it gets very few discharge cycles per mile/year. Motor stays is sharp tune. Factory Smart Charging systems is well sorted. Next to zero accessory load.

Calcium detergents in small displacement boosted motors at low RPM under high loads are primary targets. GM 2.7 in example. Also can be a problem for most any hard working low rpm GDI motor.
