High enough to register 80 to 125 on oxidation. Compare most recent AMSOIL SS VOA was 48 oxidation on a 5W30. 9/2020. Red Line HP Euro 5W30 97 oxidation. 3/2023 Red Line HP Euro 5W40 82 oxidation, 12/2024 the lot I'm using right now.

I start about a year before I need them gathering information. I've found that when I find one I like....it disappears or triples in price. Pepper never sees snow. Rarely rain. NEVER off road. Dad showed me a something about 60 years ago. When you are driving in the rain look behind you. Can you see your tire print? Full void? All four? If not....slow down until you can. Many new tires won't pass that test at 80 mph in a hard rain but it never seems to stop to many from doing it anyway. Heck, I've seen people doing 80 bumper to bumper in a fog so thick you can't see the tail lights of the car ahead of you. See a major story on that silliness at least once a year on the National News. 50 car pill ups. Used to see it every year multiple times a season in Salt Lake City.

First set of tires on Pepper went 125,000 miles and I replaced them because they 'dated out'. Still had 5/32" of very even wear. The tire was a Bridgestone Dueler 684 II that had a 30 K warranty and rated 360 BB if my memory serves me. Rotated every 5K (NC where I was having services done if done with service) (Cross to drive) Balanced every 10K (Cheap and spin balance only, tape weights only) Tire pressures checked about twice a week and more if rapidly changing temperatures. Alignments checked twice a year and adjusted as needed. (Did three over this span and two of those due to modifications I made to the suspension). Second set didn't fair as well. Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season 780 AA. Shop I was using closed and it took me quite a while to find a capable shop to replace such services. 60K miles to replacement which is the warranty on this tire. So no complaints but.... Went 1 rotation of 20K while the alignment was just a hair off (toe) which knickered up the inside of the front left tire enough to make some noise but not enough to be a safety worry. Wear otherwise was quite even and still above the wear 3/32" wear limit but this set weathered poorly cracking between the treads and about the bead area. And they did this quite early on. Outside missing one the same schedule used as before, different provider. Four parts to wear. 1.) Man 2.) Machine 3.) Environment I include services with Man and I include Tire choice with Machine. Miss any of these and tire wear accelerates. I speak only for me for this next part. The ROI on my tires is human life. Brakes don't stop trucks. Brakes stop wheels, tires stop trucks. Steering wheels don't turn vehicles they turn wheels, tires turn vehicles. They are "Where the rubber meets the road". To do their job well they have to be perfect. I will not exchange life for money or difficulty of service or convenience. Rant over. I currently buy my tires and have my tires serviced at a Belle Tire. I get rotations free. Spin balance free. I spend $30 for the alignment upgrade which gives me 3 checks per year at N/C. I have a compressor and a good gauge. It cost me nothing but time to get this right. I get great results even with poor tire choices. YMMV.

As far as I know and I know back to the mid 1990's the HP line never was majority POE. It varied from grade to SAE grade but rang in between 15% and 40%. Always majority PAO. Why on the 0W20? Are you looking at unit 391? No glycol. Ca is under 2500 (kind of the industry benchmark for 'over added' total detergent package) and does use sodium. The zinc/phos. between 800 and 888 ppm. Moly is robust but not off the reservation. This is quite a bit different than even the 2018 chemistry which was absolutely violating the industry standard benchmarks. And yet the ones I ran in Honda's with very good results. You ever hear of an HP motor plugging oil galleys due to a moly over add? Me either. Now all that said, your history runs back further with this chemistry than mine and I suspect that perhaps your personal benchmark for over added may be lower than the industry. But I would be presuming and guessing with nothing but tendency to go on. If you were give the newest version of the 0W20 a look you will find that the add package is in current line with LSPI standards and and even more balanced moly/boron ratio. You would still get a good does of POE and a HTHS of 2.9 cP or matching that of a 5W30. The 5W20? I don't know the current particulars. 2020 is the most current VOA I found but no lab noted and a mile off on that labs HTHS value. Nothing reliable. But remember that the HP does have a target audience that includes allot of old iron. They are not trying to be all things to all people on every product in the portfolio. On to Dizzy. EVAP. Tested, replaced, tested again, smoke tested.... Take note of all the single tailpipe Terrains (2.4 single 3.6 dual) and even new(er) ones suffer over rich. HUGE! They will show LTFT and STFT in line and good balance and yet the O2 signal will run over 70% regardless. She's just old and tired. She's near the end. Loosing coolant, woofen the valve cover and front seal. Last note on this. As time passes the bar gets lower. 3000 ppm total detergents used to be the mainstay on every shelf of oil in America. We didn't call them over added then and the only reasons they are not longer the mainstay is the FORCE to reduce them first by regulation and then my GDI design limits. Give it a few more years and 2500 ppm will get obliterated. Patients my good man, patients.

Boron and molybdenum disulfide, among other friction modifiers, have been added to modern oils to compensate for the EPA’s need to cut the levels of zinc and phosphorus since they do not clog the catalysts in particulate emissions filters or catalytic converters. Notably, most Porsches have run their whole lives with high Zn and P oils, such as those found in API SG-SJ oils as recently as 2004, and we have never heard of catalytic converter problems with these vehicles. [Close quote] This oil is Porsche A40 compliant. Ca is low and even ZDDP levels are low as a result. NOT OVER ADDED. Boron, moly are in line with lower Ca as well. Red Line HP/Euro does keep up.

The other end of the scale would be something like Evolve Lubricants EvoSyn 5W30 at 4.09 cP.

The rest of the story? Studies like the ones under discussion are done in environments and under states of construction we do not experience in production machines for the intended purpose of accelerating the study to a manageable length and cost. Wear out is done in hours in limited cycles and not years and hundreds of thousands of miles. Studies are meant to make a point and deliver a result that you get to reap the benefit of for a very long time. Read the supplied CMOC article. Noted the 'Discussion' section after reading. They raise some valid concerns about the study and yet there seems to be some 'there there'. In the discussion the second push back concerned the amount of wear vs the length of study. As I noted earlier 'accelerated rate' studies are common and have a basis in reality but they do look WEIRD So this third study echo's the first two "directionally" and I know how you feel about that word "Directionally" but it is a good word when we compare apple to oranges. That is, fuel, oil and CMOC which brings me to a question you will be in a better position to speak to and that it...... XOM and Shell's Premium fuel 'friction modifiers' which Lake Speed and the Total Seal Team have evaluated and confirmed after the Shell study...are these in addition too or a part of CMOC's. Kind'a get the idea they are not the same but...... A bit past my sell date Now, that said and noting these CMOC's are "friction" activated and have a "finite life" due to concentration, thus have a critical OCI highlights the need to be vigilant in our oil maintenance programs and make wise fuel and operating condition choices. Between these two exchanges I would offer this.... There is so much more that could be done and yet, due to greed, is not. We know "Directionally" which way to go. Which fluids to use and how long to use them. We know what 'else' we could be doing and what effect those efforts will have. We know and yet we don't regardless of the proof set before us because?????? It takes so long to reap the reward we grow weary and give up. I learn on my first fuel stop with my Enfield Bullet 500 which took the better part of a hour that people LIKE the idea of buying one for a lifetime and yet have no patients for the effort it takes to reap that result. See how long it takes at the dock to fill a Crist Craft or a 1952 Cadillac 62 and you will understand how people value 'beauty' and how little patients they have to hold it in their hands.

Man that was over 250 Characters. Attention span exceeded. Kidding First impression on a light once over reading. I'll go deeper as I reread and digest. There is allot of good information in this booklet. There is a minimum of "not quite on the money interchange between the information and the application". But some does exists. It's a sales tool. This is one of the few post I've read that makes note that not just a particles size matters but it's HARNESS as well. And this is one of those interchange moments. Most of the 'matter' in oil is "Relatively SOFT nucleated carbonaceous materials that have amalgamated. That is they are softer than the things they are trying to abrade. At least at reasonable OCI's and in a healthy motor. Elemental carbon is about 0.5 on the Mohs scale while gray iron is about 4.0 Mohs (softest cylinder bore). Silicon however is 6.5 Mohs (air born sand). Keep those air filters sealed and in good service. Still the point, if a bit misapplied, is still valid within the 'stated context'. I have to reread the 'reference a few more times' cause it seems to imply that most of the debris over the oils life cycle is introduced by the incoming combustion air. True in 1925, not in 2025. More the point is that the device will rid you of something a cartridge will not and while true on the face of it, would only matter if it were present. It also agrees with the earlier GM wear studies of cartridge filters using a similar method. Introduced know quantities and compositions of materials. Important, BOTH studies introduce particles for the express purpose of wearing the components in a rapid manor to accelerate the study. Not a lot of aluminum oxide or silica generated in a motor. That said both studies indicated similar rates of wear at similar cleanliness levels and actual road miles have born both to be true. So I could pick some nits (just did) but on whole....Yea, that was a good'n.

I think we are at a point of breathing this poison air the entire world lives in that the vast majority of people who used to view certain touchstones as reliable enough to use a a gauge for making reasonable choices to have defaulted to 'Trust Nothing". How long will the rings of a 2 stroke last? Go the AMSOIL site and look up 2 stroke oil PDS. Note the difference between the premix/injector oils meant for 30:1 to 50:1 applications and then have a gander at the oil intended for the 100:1 motors. You will see a jump from SAE 12W to SAE 40W with nothing in between. These motors have short ring lives measured in hours not hundreds of thousands of miles. Yes average operating temperatures are higher as is RPM. But the killer is FUEL that dilutes the oil to fractional viscosity. Ya know, that thing that keeps parts from touching other parts. Oh and next to no phosphorus or sulfur. Well they do have to run a few hours so can't foul plugs ever few miles, eh? Here's the hint. Double the ratio and the oil's viscosity doubles. 0W8 oil in a Toyota with GDI. (Japan market) Soon here. SAAB Sonnet

Benefit of the Doubt It's the title of a Jesse Stone episode. 1.) Opening scene is a slow pan shot around a small New England fishing village. My eye is draw like moth to a flame of two shingles curled on the roof of a shed. A Flaw. 2.) Jesse enters the home of a man who does not answer the door and calls out to anyone that may be there. He hears a faint scratching noise. Room by room he finds a dog locked in a pantry that bolts to the back door leading into a garage where the own in hanging from the rafter. A find he wouldn't have made without the dog pointing to it. Later he's talking to the State Police who thinks it was suicide. Jesse says he doesn't think so. State guy asks, "Guess?" Jesse replies, "No a hunch". State cop says, "what's the difference". Jesse, "Certainty". Although it is never spoken of again the remainder of the movie the thing that gave Jesse 'certainty' was the dog shut in the pantry, A man killing himself would not leave his best friend to die in a locked room uncertain of when he may be found. It is never said in the movie but a "Silent Clue" unaware even to Jesse it had been sent, received and processed. 3.) A scene of Jesse lowering the arm of a record player on to the outer most rim of that record and while the stylist is still searching for the grove the music starts. "An Anachronism" 4.) Early on Jesse talking to the town counsel. Apologies for not returning his call explaining there is no cell reception at his home on the point of the bay. Later in the move he makes a call from his cell phone from a bench on that very point. A LIE or perhaps a script error. This ability to see these sorts of things without effort, nearly unconsciously, almost no one else does is how I made my living in Refining. I see the lies and the deceit in marketing. In Engineering presentations. In a story told at a BBQ. Nearly impossible to lie to and while it made for a very good living, it ruined allot of movies and relationships. Mostly ones that need it. Leaning into a lie hoping I will doubt myself is a long wait. I like Jesse Stone Movies.

Reality Check To convince me or any rational person that RLI's Stabilized HOBS Group III blend or any other blend for that matter, is superior to Red Line HP PAO/POE blend in "wear" abatement would require an independent third party study done in real time over hundreds of thousand of miles that was peer reviewed and published. That is to say, not lab rat work ups of accelerated studies done by the blenders making those products. Actual road miles. Not roof top studies. Here's the reality check. Those types of studies are not done much less peer reviewed or published. Reality check round II. I pull 200 to 250K motors down using RLHP which are still measure in the tolerances of "new" spec and clean as the day there were assembled. (car otherwise trashed by rust or wreckage). So 'cleaner' is impossible and less wear as a matter of relevance, not relevant. Thus.... It not only has to be true, it has to matter. These 200 to 250 K motors have outlived the warranty by 3X and outlived the 'legal definition' of "Lifetime" by 50 to 100K and in the condition I just stated. Low in new spec wear and clean. Within the last decade I have finally learned to extend the life of the body and frame so going further than 250K is becoming a part of uncharted waters. But as the first 250 produced little negative result then as we are starting at 250K in like new power train wise then I have every confidence the first 150 K is in the bag. So 400K a cake walk and I'm on the road to repeating the family legends. Perhaps too old to complete it but.....does it matter? I think not. What I have provided is DATA over very long periods of time that guys like Stan get nervous over. That is to say, taking a 200K mile drive line cross country it a no brain even for me and he....yea...not sure and yet sure enough to make fun of what I take for granted. What I have from Terry is...well....bluster without pertinent facts and blender only testimony. Point, set and match. He's sees Peppers wear as high but not horrid and yet at even at this point she is leak tight, not an oil burner and more frugal on E85 that most get on E10 running like NEW, looking like NEW and yet my over added OLD SCHOOL added OUT of date BASES have still managed 3X the warranty and well over the legal lifetime. And zero documentation ANY oil would produce a statistically superior result. Just statements without PROOF. I'll add I've spent a total of under $100, labor inclusive on 'abnormal' maintenance. Starter shield replacement and a pinion seal. Neither oil related. New tires and battery and she ready to go where ever I point her pretty red nose. How much data does one need? Terry, you keep telling me it can't and it won't and yet...IT ALREADY HAS. How's them apples?
