Put the 20” Sierra rims on my truck - now with black bow ties. Got my console swap done as well. 20s suit this body style well! -

I'm Back! after a hiatus from posting.... I'm back. no longer have the 2020 2500 Custom.... traded that off for a 2022 2500 Z71 LT... loved that truck.. but it too was a lease. I changed careers back in 2021 and have a company supplied truck to use every day. the cost of a lease for a vehicle seemed a waste after that. When I got rid of the 2022 I made a panic buy in the crap used market and bought a used tundra.... (go ahead and judge me)..... it was not the truck for me. I sold it just after xmas , and in January found and bought this! 2020 Silverado 1500 double cab 4x4 LT.... with the 3.0L Duramax. seemed a good fit for towing my camper (6500 LBS GVW) and deck trailer with the RZR (2800 lbs) as well as just being a weekend warrior. truck has the convenience package so has the rear slider, along with heated seats and wheel. has a spray in liner, and came with wheel to wheel running boards (may change these out yet not sure) as well as a tonneau cover (that opens from the front as well the back of course) and the trailering mirrors. I added the OEM rear wheel well liners , and the OEM hard plastic splash guards. clean local history on it with no accidents and meticulous service records including. so far am totally loving this truck and so happy to be back in a GM..... I am awaiting some nicer weather as I have the centre console sitting in my garage waiting to swap into it... as well as I picked up a set of OEM Sierra SLT 20's (polished aluminum) to toss on..... I miss the ride height and size of the 3/4 ton a bit... but for just rattling around in.. a half ton is far superior. no intent of upgrading our camper , and if we did we'd be staying in the same size and weight class anyway. TLDR - IM BACK! in a 1500 W/ A 3.0L and couldn't be happier!! plans aside of the rims and console I have to go on include adding factory foglight setup , possible a slight larger block in the rear (give it a rake to compensate for the towing squat) maybe a level in the front (my skinny ass had a hard time sliding under the running boards on a creeper to change the fuel filter) and looking at doing the katzkin leather swap (had it done in my 2011 and loved it) also looking at getting a Banks iGauge to monitor DPF soot level, re gens etc as I know the importance of that working for a heavy equipment dealership... More pics and updates to come! -
forgive me if I have not found the thread on it yet - but has anyone done this swap AND included adding the heated wheel? I imagine for that , it would be a spring clock swap as well? the prices that are going on right now , and my recent career change has lead me to think I'm likely going to buy my 2020 Custom 3/4 ton out at the end of my lease, and this is a have to mod for me if I'm keeping the truck!

LED tailgate stop/turn/reverse led strip
AdamZ71 replied to AdamZ71's topic in Modifications & Accessories
I pulled the access panel off the inside of my tailgate and there was no wires going to the tailgate side portion either. I think I’m going to remove the bed side one this weekend and tackle the install of the led strip. Only thing i can think of is its some sort of alignment guide . Although I’m comfortable removing the bracket now , I’m still curious as to what its function is! -
LED tailgate stop/turn/reverse led strip
AdamZ71 replied to AdamZ71's topic in Modifications & Accessories
That was my one concern was that it maybe had something to do with the power release on the tailgate or maybe something magnetic for the soft release . There is no wiring or anything going to the piece on the box of the truck - you can see the backside of the bolts easily from underneath the tailgate side could be a different story -
Picked up an LED tailgate light strip actually for my old 1/2 ton and found it in the garage this weekend. Want to put it on the 2500 but I am confused as to what this small bracket may be . There is 2 pieces one bolted to box one to tailgate. Maybe I’m dumb but what is this for?? I was cruising the threads over on the Half ton side and lots of guys have done the LED strip with no mention of this being in the way or needing to be removed can I simply take it off?? sorry for the upside down I’m on mobile don’t know why it did that and this bracket is on the left side of truck about 4” in from tail light edge The second picture shows it from the top side including the tailgate piece any insight is appreciated thanks!

Good point but yes ,Ill hit my 800 kms / 500 mi by end of this week from commuting every day to work. We’re not going far at all this weekend either , about 15 mi from home just to put the camper through its paces to make sure were good for the year. Weekend after we’re headed a bit further for the may long weekend . No super long trips planned this year yet , nothing more than a few hundred kms one way so far

A lot of high trim levels here so I thought I’d share my 2020 Custom. Had it a week and enjoying it thoroughly so far. Hooking it up to the camper and will be seeing what the 6.6 gasser can do!

Hey I have the cubby compartment /110v /12v trim piece for under radio stack in black if anyone going the other way is looking. Winnipeg Manitoba Canada is where I'm at!

I'm thinking its a software thing for the 16 as mine did not, my truck is a 15 Ah we'll close but no cigar

Son of a gun. well I'm on my way to the dealer for a different reason , but I am going to confirm again that the way mine is setup is not communicating , as well it may be and i'm just daft..... but if its not i may pull the trigger on that cord. my only hesitancy is yours is a 2016 , mine is a 2015. can't see there being any difference in the HMI programming for that particular port ? i never did test , but i imagine your glovebox port also communicated with the radio before removing it....? or did you try that prior. makes me wish i had of now. guess its an easy pull it apart and try

Windshield Wiper Blades
AdamZ71 replied to davidio840's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
too many to quote - but x 6 or 7 or 8 or whatever on rain-x. i've used it on headlights , side view mirrors and everything - really helps shed water and in not so nice months slush snow and crap off , coupled with my OEM blades i have zero issues. apply it twice a year once in spring once in fall. best 6.99 you can spend IMO. i will note my truck also sits in my garage when not in use so its not subject to elements deteriorating them as mentioned earlier too. -
^^ also interested to know if that works out for you -and which coloured port on the HMI you used to get it to work.... defiantly worth the couple extra bucks to buy the Delco cable to have it function that way, and strange how a setup like mine does not....

Seen lots of 2017s with full consoles on the lot- the part number you are using probably references the console without the wireless charger , all the new ones have the wireless charger , no option without . They may not be making them anymore without, but don't quote me on that
-
The 3 USBs up front will all charge with the standard to mini and existing USB to HMI cord but do not communicate with the radio like the ones inside the console. Like you said though the one in the glovebox is quite useless to me too. Rather have the 3 upfront charging than the one in he glovebox

Hey everyone, for those looking to still do this swap , its pretty straight forward and east if you dont mind messing with some wiring. i did not use the large plug harness from the new floor console , i removed the old harness from my jump seat - it allows everything in the rear of the new console to function py simply plugging it in , with the exception of the led light inside the console. for this i removed the wires and plugs from the floor console harness and taped it together with the jumpiest harness now in the floor console for a factory look and feel (even used the cloth tape from old harness which was a royal PITA to remove but again worth it) for the front plugs my 110 and 1 existing 12 volt plug and play no problem , i ran power and ground for the LED light in the console to the front and tied it into the existing 12 fold port , i also jumped the second 12 volt pig tale off the existing 12 volt plug. for the 3 USB ports i used the plug off the old floor console harness that plugged into the usb ports and removed all but 2 wires for power and ground , and tied this too into the existing 12 volt at the front ( yes I'm aware I'm drawing alot from one 15A fuse but the chances of running more than one piece at a time off this single circuit is slim to none) (i also kept a 2nd 12v plug pigtail with a foot of wiring and plan on running the 2nd 12v plug to its own fuse in the future (there is a spot in the fuse panel for this) for the USB , as my truck is a 2015 and has the usb port in the glovebox i simply removed that plug , which provides you with a standard female USB , then took a standard USB male to Mini USB male plug , and plugged it in , taped the connection in the centre and had to shave a bit of the plastic off the end plug so it would fit in the strange factory usb plug on the console. this allows me to still have the factory usb plug at the HMI behind the dash and not have to splice a usb harness. again i will say i took my time , did alot of research and planned my build i probably have left out some pieces , but there is a ton of great write ups on this forum (thanks to everyone who has contributed , and the pioneers who were the firsts) for the removal of the seat theres a video on youtube if your uncomfortable with that process , and for harvesting the harness out of the jump seat i watched a video showing how to re upholster the console which shows the complete disassembly of the console including removal of the wiring harness! i uploaded a few shots of the before during and after in my gallery along with the harness i built for the new console. Thanks again everyone for the info , insight and breakdown of your own builds. helped make mine possible! onto the next one!

well. i just finished my console swap and it turned out great! i have everything functioning as factory - with the exception of the dreaded 3 front USB ports , which i have charging only. I am going to upload some pictures and post a full explanation of how and what I did! The BEST advice I can give is research , plan and take your time and everything will come up aces!!
