Installed the new module from WAMS in my 2020 HC. If you have the 20 series truck and would really like to have 2021 factory wireless CarPlay this is hands down the right way to do it. There appear to be a couple of "Adapters" out there that claim to provide wireless CarPlay, but after reading pretty much every review I can find, they don't seem to be very stable. The White Automotive & Media services module is a factory radio with the latest options, after a couple of settings changes to my iPhone, it's flawless. Hop in the truck, phone in pocket or on the charging pad and off we go. Seamless integration because it's the GM tech, expertly programmed by the WAMS gurus. You submit your VIN and it shows up ready to be installed, just had to have XM subscription moved to the new radio ID which I did online at no cost. Since pretty much all features were already enabled in my truck, this really just added Wireless CarPlay and I believe a better HD radio, and 2 trailering features. Nav is map data is newer also, as this comes with a new Nav SDCARD. I did run into Apple Wifi issues which were easily resolved. This is something to consider no matter which CarPlay option you pick. The new Apple feature in IOS 14 called "private networking" can present an issue, so make sure you turn that off for the trucks Wifi network. (on your iPhone goto settings, wifi, select the truck network, hit the "i" and turn Private Networking off) In fact you can turn that off for any network you trust. It's great for public/guest wifi, as it's assigns your phone a new address frequently making it harder to track your device, but it can cause problems on some networks. So turn it off, your trusted (home or truck) network will thank you and you 'll be just as "safe". Also if you have good wifi coverage where you park your truck, your iPhone may want to stay connected to the home network, until you move away from it. You can help that transition by adjusting the wifi network priority on a Mac computer, make the truck #1 and home #2, and the transition to truck wifi appears to happen very quickly. Also make sure you've selected "Auto-join" on your iPhone for the truck wifi network. Once I did that, I can flawlessly transition in and out of the truck and my phone move to the right wifi by itself every time. You may not have any challenges at all, but these suggestions might help if you do. Anyways, back to the installation, which is clearly outlined on the WAMS product page. Disconnect battery before starting this install. You'll need a 10mm socket with an extension to remove two nuts that hold the inverter bracket on. A plastic trim tool to remove two plastic fasteners holding that flimsy carpet/felt material under the glove box and without question your favorite automotive pick tool. If you can do this installation without a pick tool, you got mad skillz. Radio module is up inside the passenger side dash. Pic 1. Like the instructions say, there is a large connector right in the way, just disconnect it and tuck both ends out of the way. Then disconnect the inverter cable. Pic 2. there is a red slide lock, use the pick tool to slide it toward the drivers side and then pull the grey arm to remove. Once thats off, remove the inverter from the bracket and get that 10mm socket out and remove the two nuts holding it against the firewall. Once it's gone you can see the radio module, it's in a plastic mount that has a couple of tabs to press on to remove it. Pic 3. Before you can remove it, you have to disconnect all the cables. Each cable has a sliding lock and a tab to press on to remove it. This is easy with a pick tool, just locate the slide lock with the pick tip and gently pull down to unsnap it. Be gentle - it's hard to reach but easy to do once you find it. Depress the tab to remove the cable, it's located right under that lock you just moved. After that, tuck the connectors out of the way and work the radio module out, it's a tad tricky but surprisingly easy once you've done it. Reverse the process for installation, snap a picture of the serial number and XM radio ID just in case, because let's face it, you're never going to take that sucker out ! After that follow the instructions from WAMS, but really I found just handle the wifi stuff as stated above first, and then accept all of the obvious continue questions and off you go. Overall I'm VERY happy with not having to plug a cable in when I get in the truck, makes CarPlay even better than it was already. Finally that charging/cooling pad in the console actually makes sense. The one I installed in the lid of the console means both my wife and I can be wirelessly charging and I'm cable free in the cab, which was my original goal. The HD radio and Nav update is great Two major thumbs up on the quality of the product, and excellent support when I asked support a question. Hands down would recommend this company and product. Next up BCM re-programming!

Tow mirrors on the 1500....
romclean1 replied to Bud Boss Lt's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
I have a love/ hate relationship with the tow mirrors. They offer excellent coverage with the big mirror and the wide angle views, and the task lights etc are actually useful. The downside, the blindspots suck. I think it may suck more for shorter people, since the lower you sit in the cab, the more it will block your view - If my eyes were 6-9 inches higher, maybe it wouldn't be an issue at all. -
Spoof a connected trailer for side camera function
romclean1 replied to Steve Wagner's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
Yes tried it, didn’t make any difference for me. Important to note that the testers are designed to test the trucks wiring, which is very different than simulating a trailer. I do think you could modify a tester and add a load for each lamp, I considered it and then decided that I like my backup sensors more. I think the guys from White Auto (the magical programming gurus) said this was a complex problem to solve as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Gas mileage on AT4 with 6.2 and 35’s
romclean1 replied to Cjb1979's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
I’m getting about 16.5ish with 285/65’s (34.6x11.2) average. About 12.5 driving like my inner 16yr old. 18.5 on the highway driving like my dad did. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

RC Speedometer Calibration Module issues
romclean1 replied to romclean1's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
Yes, I only needed a fractional change in values to correct it. I went from 275/60/R20 (32.9” in my particular case) to a larger 285/65/R20 (34.6” BFGs). I changed that to 34.75” and I think it’s right on target. (1.048 vs 1.054 or something like that) Speedometer is about 1/2 mph faster than actual speed, a tad over is better than a low reading in my book, cruise works as expected. -
RC Speedometer Calibration Module issues
romclean1 replied to romclean1's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
So I think I’ve cracked it. I modified the tire size to .2” difference and I’ve got speedometer reading maybe 1/2 mph faster than gps and adaptive cruise working with no issues at the right speed including following, slowing and then accelerating again all on it’s own smoothly. the software could use some polishing but overall this works. -
RC Speedometer Calibration Module issues
romclean1 replied to romclean1's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
Well it's been a week or more and no answers from Rough Country, they've stopped replying to voicemails - disappointing. I did try calling Hypertech who actually makes the module and they said RC had to provide support - but did give me a tip on changing settings by a fraction to "change up the math". I was able to tweak settings to find a reasonable middle ground between speedometer calibration and cruise working, but what's the point if it's not 100% accurate - so it's return/refund time. I think this can probably work with the right update, but I'd recommend buying it from Hypertech vs RC, so you can skip the middleman and go directly to the manufacturer. -

Looks great, there never enough light when you need it. Good call on the button placement, they should have put one there. -
Has anyone else had issues with using the Rough Country Speedometer Calibration module on a truck with Adaptive Cruise? I just went to a larger tire and wanted to correct the speedometer reading. Driving at 30 it's off by 1 mph, at 40 its a bit more, at 60+ its closer to 3+ish or more. The RC device (hypertech) does correct the calibration which is great, but when I turn on cruise things get weird. If I'm truckin along at 65 on the highway and set cruise, the truck holds at 65 for few seconds and then accelerates to 69-71 and then pulls back and slows to 65. Thats about the same amount the speedometer would have been off, + or - a mile or two. RC support is was great and is looking into the issue, just curious if anyone else has had similar behavior especially if you have adaptive cruise. The software has a specific entry for 2020 w/adaptive, which makes me think there is a difference in the programming.

Bilstein 5100s are a HUGE upgrade!
romclean1 replied to CS25's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
It’s less noticeable if you are always on highways and decent road conditions. Although the “planted” feel is something many seem to report. More noticeable on broken road surfaces, transitions and seams. You can definitely tell the difference if you ride on rough/dirt/gravel roads, I think that’s where they really shine. Not life changing, but I think on price for performance they deliver. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 388 replies

2020 HC with GM 2" kit, and Bilstein 5100's set to 1.1" so it's basically a Trailboss that's close to level. 285/65 20 BFG KO2s (34.6"x11.2") on Raceline 20x9 0 offset and 6mm spacers to make the wheels clear the brakes. Removed brackets and trimmed the mud guards. slight rub at full lock, but really minor. Forums like this really helped me figure out what I wanted, and what was possible - so thanks all. Hope this helps someone else.

What Have You Done With Your T1 Today ?????
romclean1 replied to Sierra Dan's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
Rides great, can feel things are a little heavier, but the 6.2 doesn't seem to care. Tire noise seems about the same or maybe less than the Ridge Grapplers, handling is about the same also. They are just a bit wider than the 275/60 (10.8 vs 11.2) . Since these are really for winter, I didn't want to go to a 12.5' tire and I'm glad to didn't. If I had gone with anything wider, I would have had to lift further or maybe lift/use spacers to miss the frame behind the front liner. Removing the brackets is easy, used a plunge tool to trim the flaps in seconds and still have a decent amount left. Speedometer calibration is next, it's off just enough to be annoying, bought a rough country calibration device, but they sent the wrong one - have return it. setup with the GM 2" lift and 5100 adjustable shocks at 1.1" 275/60 RG on top 285/65 BFGs bottom pic -

Got the new tires mounted and then did a little surgery at home. Removed both brackets and trimmed up the flaps. There’s a tiny bit of rub a full crank but it’s negligible, I did zip tie the liner back, which was a must, but it does rub a bit further back. If I trimmed the liner right there it would probably clear it but I’ll let the happen naturally. 3 of the four tires only needed a 1-2oz weights, one needed 9oz but my buddy is good and you can’t tell at all even at high speed. It’s easier to remove the brackets if you pull the flap off. There are 4 bolts, remove bracket and replace bolts. There’s a great place to run the zip tie. Put the mud flap back on before you zip tie it or it’s a PIA to get the screws back in the clips. BFG KO2 285/65s, which is a 34.6” x 11.2” tire. The wheels have 0 offset. I have plenty of room near the UCA. Just a little less poke, as the sidewall of the RidgeGrapplers stuck out a fraction more. -
