  1. I just got nailed for this. My Brake Pad LIfe reading was at 80%. Then the Service Brake Pad monitor warning came on about 3 weeks ago. Finally got into the dealer today, and they told me that I had no rear pads left, and front were at 1mm, and I needed all new rotors too! If there was no system, I would have been monitoring things myself, and had the pads done before the rotors were f'd. I was at 80k, so I can understand needing to do them, but the the fact that it said they had 80% left right on my dash everyday made me think that.... well... I had 80% brake pad life left. What really pissed me off is the service manager telling me that "it can go from 80% to worn out real fast", and then saying that I should have known to come in right away when it said 80%! I said 4 years to go from 100% to 80%, and then 3 weeks to go from 80% to totally f'd!
  2. I have stock Duratracs at 275/65/r18, which are at the end of their life. I want to keep things stock, but want a larger tire, and I am going with a KO2. I am really curious about what 305/65r18s would look like on a stock setup; would be any rub? how much would gas milear be affected? Would I feel a loss of power? would be too wide for the stock rim and look like a pool inflatable? The 305/65r18 would be 4.7% bigger diameter, and 5lbs heavier than going the stock size in a KOs. I am also worried that. The 285/65r18s is likley the safe choice here.
  3. I came accross these "CW Limited" tonneau covers. They have a hard-trifold with free shipping within canada for quite a bit less than the brand names line BAK, Enthuze, etc. I am sure they aren't as good as the brand names ones... but are they decent, or just junk? They are about 40-70% cheaper than the brand name ones, so I am almost willing to take a chance... but it would be easier if someone on here had given one a whirl... Here is a video of the model I am looking at. See any red flags here?:
  4. My 2019 Sierra came with 275/65/r18 Duratrac Wranglers. They are getting due for a replacement. So I am looking for options others of tried. My criteria is: I'd like an hybrid/offroad tire. I am 85% blacktop, 10% gravel, 5% mud. It rains a fair bit here We do get heavy dumps of wet snow 4-5 times a year (I am in Nova Scotia, Canada if that helps). I would like to be very close to the stock diameter just for the sake of not adjusting speedo, etc. I want to keep stock rims I want something a little wider, so I assume those options would be a 295 or a 305. I made up a spreadsheet and it seems that 305/60/r18 is very close to stock circumference, but there are _very_ limited options in this size. They ones that I have found locally are: BFG KM3 - probably too offroad, looking for something more like the KO2 Cooper Discoverer S/T MAXX - this seems like a good option, but it has been discontinued in this size, as no one has stock in this size, and Coopers website no longer lists it. Cooper Discoverer STT PRO - probably too offroad as well Nitto Ridge Grappler - don't know much about this one Nitto Recon Grapper - need to do more research on this one too Has anyone run this tire size? What model did you go with? How did it perform? How was on-road compared to stocks?
  5. I just got phoned it is ready to pickup. So I will have a look at the work order and see what is going on.
  6. Finally spoke to someone at GMC Canda yesterday. They said they are still reviewing the case. They said it is highly unlikely they was do any sort of replacement including motor. They said things that may come out of the review are extending warranty, covering payments for the 2 months of not having a vehicle, and also a "trade-assist". It was nice to finally have a dialogue about things. I would consider the trade-assist, but I am getting close to having my truck paid off, and I was really looking forward to not having a payment... unless I go down a few trim levels, it is hard to imagine that even with the trade-assist, I don't end up extending my payments. I really like the AT4 w/ 6.2L so I am not sure I want to go down a trim. So most likely looking at extended warranty I guess. They said they would phone me once review was complete and present me with options. Dealer is still waiting on parts.
  7. It will be 2 months this Monday and still no truck. GMC canada has been friendly on the phone, and have told me 4 times now that a supervisor would be phoning me within 24 hours. I have nnot received a single phone call from them. Probably time that I stop being nice about it.
  8. No I have never disabled DFM, I didn't know you could. With the cost of fuel up here I never considred it. But yeah it does seem like that is the issue. Which is brutal that it took them this long to figure it out then if it is a known issues. GMC Canada is still "reviewing my case". I suspect they are slow playing me until the truck is fixed, and then think I will back off once I have vehicle back. It's going to be a fight I guess. It is good to know your friends experience, sou The updated loaner they gave me the other day is a 2021 Canyon AT4. I have only driven it a day, and I like it. 90% of the time I dont truly _need_ a full-size. But it feels like half the truck, half the power, with about 10% fuel savings.
  9. So just yesterday they let me know that it threw a rod. I said how did it take that long to figure it out. They said that for warranty work they are forced to follow GMC's troubleshooting steps, and have to get approval before everything new they attempt it. They said parts are on order. I said if the motor imploded, I don't want it fixed it should atleast be a new motor. They said again they have to do what GMC tells them. I have phoned GMC Canada and a supervisor is supposed to be phoning me back today. I'll fight for a new truck (which seems unlikely), then a new motor plus extended warranty. How is a vehicle disassembled and re-assembled in a dealership supposed to be the same as one put together in a factory is my argument. For an $80k I need to be able to trust the vehicle. The is what I saw when I walked into the dealership today...
  10. They finally gave me a their shuttle car to use until they can get me a rental (from Enterprise), Enterprise didn't have anything until this coming week. @cwtech that is a crazy story... I'll be sure there is a valid invoice in the rental car when I get it. I believe the vehicle is just sitting there this week because they didn't have a time slot for it (basically they were booked solid for two weeks when I brought it in). Because I have got all my service done there since moving here, they found a couple small spots to work on it, but that is it. So next week they have a full day booked for it, so we should see some action then. It sucks, but it isn't the dealers fault that they were booked solid. I am in a small town and this is a small dealership. The dealership I used to live by had an unbelievable service department. This dealership is friendly, but smaller and not as well run. I am enjoying mileage in this tin can I can driving now... but that is about it.
  11. Just an update... that is not an update. Dealership is still trying things. I have call with them tommorrow. I am trying to be patient, as it isn't the dealerships fault... but I am starting to wonder what my rights with GMC are? e.g., at the 30 day mark can I demand that they replace the vehicle? I love my truck, but I want to be able to trust it... Has anyone dealt with a situation where GM/Chev took a really long time to diagnose the problem?
  12. Just picked up a loaner. Now they think they are going to have to pull the motor and get a gm tech involved. They said the motor seems ceased... none of it makes any sense. Probably find out more on Tuesday.
  13. On Sunday (5 days ago) my truck just died while my wife was driving about 80km/hr after picking up the kids. She coasted to the side of the and called me. I thought it was going to be something silly like batter in key going dead, sealtbelt, or something like that. But I got there and pushing the start button just made the truck turn off. Pushing it when it was off, just make the accessories come on. All electronics seemed fine. There was no warning lights or anything prior. The truck had 55,000k on it, so I called roadside assistance and had it towed to the dealership. The dealership has had it since Sunday, and still have no idea what is wrong with it. They have phoned me twice to ask me more questions about it. They replaced the starter, fuseblock, and battery... which made no sense to me. It has never had trouble starting, and all electronics were fine, and there was never a voltage warning. The fuseblock maybe... I would have thought with all the electronics on that truck, it would basically self diagnose itself. The funny thing is that the myGMC app is reporting the vehicle with no warnings or alerts, other than one tire which needs air. The truck has always been a little flaky, I have had the ABS just randomly stop working a few times during cold weather when I got it, but a firmware flash fixed that. Once a weak I will get a warning on the infotainment system that the SD card has been removed when it hasn't. Sometimes when the infotainment system starts up the GMC logo display while it loads is garbled. I have had the 'timer' on the dash console freeze up the entire dash console. But this is my first GM/Chev I have owned, so I am not sure if that is just par for the course with them, or if it is linked to the issue I am having now. Looks like I am going into the long weekend with no vehicle. Dealership won't do loaners due to COVID and vehicle shortages. Though I am expecting a call back from the manager, and I am going to discuss my options. The group owns 5 dealerships, they can find me something, and bill it back to GMC. This isn't the dealership I bought the vehicle from, as I have moved since buying it, but they should still step up, I mean they are just going to bill GMC for everything. Anyway, enough whining, has anyone had something like this happen to them? What was the cause?
  14. Embarrassing... You are right. The wife found it.
