  1. I have a 31' camper and I tow with a ProPride (Jim Hensley design) hitch, which adds a few extra feet between my truck and trailer. I was worried that my rig might not be suitable for the transparent trailer view. With fingers crossed, I permanently mounted the camera and hid the cable on the interior of the trailer. I measured the 7 dimensions required in the setup menu and then started driving while it calibrated. It kept calibrating...and calibrating...and calibrating.... I eventually gave up and drove home. About 20 minutes (maybe 15 miles?) of city and freeway driving, I got the "calibration successful" message. The transparent trailer view works! When we get back from Spring Break, I'll make a proper post about my installation, setup and practical experience.
  2. Hi Wayne I'm anxious to see how you get this to work on your camper. I have a 31' Airstream with a ProPride hitch, so I'm close to the 10m limit. Like you, I'm heading to Europe for the week. I hope to figure out how to setup the camera settings when I get back next weekend....
  3. Yes, I like the speaker system. It’s great to be able to listen to music when we’re sitting out by the truck (kids’ soccer practice, while sitting by the camper, tailgating, etc.). Is it worth the price? Considering I’ve dropped about $80k on this truck, it’s only a small part of my investment. We’ve actually used it quite a bit, so for us it has been worth doing. I have a 31’ travel trailer that we use as much as possible, and I’m challenged to find a half-ton truck (with enough space) that can tow it while keeping within payload and axle capacities. Therefore, I have this so-called “behemoth”. With my previous 2500HD, I was exceeding payload capacity when fully loaded with trailer, family, and gear, so I opted for the 3500HD this time around. I cannot really justify owning a vehicle for just the purpose of towing my RV, so it’s also my daily driver. I’m probably not taking this thing off road all that often (who would? It’s more than 20’ long and weights nearly 4 tons!), so I bought it for the looks—I’m not a big fan of the chromed-out Denali trim.
  4. Hi XY74 I have a question on your particular install. I see the camera cable comes out the top and then hooks around to go under your trailer. Was this an intentional choice, were there any other mounting geometries that would work for your install?
  5. Please help me understand this comment that I bolded. The rear end is only 1 part of the equation; the ratios of transmission gears are equally important here. This is easy to see when plotting gear ratio vs. final drive ratio for each model. I can understand why the truck might shift more often (i.e. there are more finite choices with the 10-speed), but this doesn't affect where you'll be when towing on the highway (i.e. at or near overdrive gears).
  6. For my 3500HD, I had to drill only 2 holes (unlike the 4 in the Youtube video). The automotive industry has made great strides in corrosion resistance over the last 20 years; I am not worried. The installation took me about an hour...with the most difficult step being the blind installation of the amplifier mounting bracket. The parts shop at my dealer says they get 2 hours labor for this installation.
  7. I just installed a Diamondback HD Cover on my AT4 HD. I’ve always had color-matched caps and covers, so I was a bit tentative with how this might look. Overall, I think it works well with the black trim on the AT4.
  8. Full disclosure: I don’t know the answer to your question. What I do know, however, is that the “invisible trailer’” view is a composite image of multiple cameras with each providing its respective input. With clever logic, fast processing, and a bit of witchcraft, your screen displays this magical view. When setting up the invisible trailer option, you have to enter quite some data (dimensions, spacing, etc.) for your specific Trailer/TV combo. As long as the input ranges are conducive to your combo, I could imagine this might work for you. Has anybody been successful implementing this technology on their fiver? I’d like to see how it works for you.
  9. It depends on what you want to do with this camera. The camera does, indeed, come with ~58’ cord length (I assume this is correct; I didn’t measure mine). So you can mount it anywhere on the back of your trailer and as long as your entire routing is less than this distance, you’ll have a functional HD camera on the back of your trailer that can be viewed on the built-in centerstack display. However, if you want to set up the “invisible trailer” view, there are a few more constraints. Since the image displayed on the screen is actually a composite image from several different camera views, there are limits on optical angles that work with the system. The camera must be mounted in a tight dimensional space, relative to the height of the camera on your tailgate on the rear centerline. The ~30’ limitation is the extreme distance the cameras can work together to give the composite view. In summary: You have 58’ of able to mount the camera on your trailer. The trailer can only be about 30’ long before the transparent trailer magic no longer works, due to physics.
  10. I just bought the camera. This week, I'm having it installed on my Airstream. I'm hoping they can find a clever way to run the wires without having to drop the belly pan.
  11. @Rumz I live in Katy, which I suppose makes me a west-sider.
  12. I spent the better part of a morning calling the parts departments of all the dealers in my town, only to be told by each, respectively, that they don't have it in stock and neither does their supply warehouse. Yesterday, I ordered the camera from ShopChevyParts (same as the link provided earlier in this thread). Before I ordered, I called them to see if they had it in stock. At that time, they had 24 units. The rep I spoke with told me that these cameras are in short supply right now. GM just changed the part number, and ShopChevyParts bought every unit that was available to them--thus, shutting out any dealer who might want to order any right now. With the extra 5% discount, the online price is about $135 cheaper than list. I had to pay shipping ($18) but no sales tax.
  13. Here's my Sierra 3500HD AT4 Duramax. I'm a happy camper.....literally. With 3839lb. payload capacity, this will pull my Airstream just fine!
  14. Look at my pc above. I don’t have 82” clearance, but a 2500HD AT4 with 20” wheels fit with room to spare. As long as you have enough room for the length of the truck, your height should be sufficient.
  15. Does anybody know if there is any different in receiver height between the 2020s and the previous generation HD?
  16. My local dealer didn't have any 3500HD models in stock, so I brought a 2500HD home to check for garage fit. (See my pics in an earlier post in this same thread.) For all practical purposes, the max height of 3500 is 1" taller than 2500. I have more than 1" of clearance, so I am confident my 3500HD AT4 will fit. But in the "better safe than sorry" mindset, we're currently building a new house. I've specified 8' garage door heights for all bays! (And before anybody asks....I'm not building a new house to fit the new truck....as far as my wife knows!!!!)
  17. Good thing I live in Houston. We don’t get much snow down here!
  18. Here is a 2500HD AT4 with 20" wheels that I borrowed from my dealer to check for fit. I have just enough clearance to give me confidence that the 3500HD AT4 I have on order will fit. ? My 2015 2500HD Denali easily fits...and I can close the garage door, open the tailgate and have plenty of room to walk all the way around the truck. This new one is a much larger truck.
