  1. When I drive around town I try and keep my shifts at 2100 or below. It's not hard to do most of the time. Did some running around tonight and only had to get on the gas hard a few times. Drove on the interstate for about three miles, 12 miles or so on 50-55mph roads and the rest was in small towns and back roads getting to/from my house (20-30 mph zones). AC was on the whole time and I drove over the speed limit most of the time. Took very little effort to drive easy and get 16.8 mpg. I've had the truck since new and it doesn't burn a drop of oil. Spends about 60% of its life pulling a 5000 pd. trailer. When I got in the truck tonight my son had been driving it and the MPG was at 10. Teenagers.... LOL
  2. The GM HD engineering crew knocked it out of the park with this truck! I haven't pulled with it yet, but I won't come close to maxing it out, so the gasser is perfect. Plus I can completely remove DEF and "limp mode" from my vocabulary.
  3. Not if I could get more HP.
  4. And at today's prices it sure would hurt the wallet too. Thanks.... 87 it is.
  5. Totally agree and understand. I was just curious since the eco boost is engineered to make more horsepower using premium fuel. For my 6.6 though.... 87 it is! Thanks.
  6. Is there any performance advantage to using higher octane fuel in GM’s 6.6 gas engine? There is in my Ford 2.7 eco boost so I’m curious about this engine. Haven’t been able to find the answer anywhere so far.
  7. After spending over $2000 in less than a year to fix my duramax I decided I just don't pull enough of a load to justify it. Also diesel trucks have limp mode.... gas engine don't. So I sold it and bought a new 2500 gas. I don't consider Dodge products ever (not an American company anymore and their products are junk IMO), so it comes down to Ford or GM. For 1/2 tons it's Ford hands down. My wife drives an F150. It's a great truck. For 3/4 tons the Silverado rides so much better than the F250 it's a no brainer for me. All the engine/towing spec numbers between Ford and Chevy are basically a wash. So my current ride is a 2022 Silverado 2500 LT 4WD crew cab with the gas engine. I have only had it for two days, but love it so far. It's comfortable and has a nice layout. First tow will be Friday pulling our race trailer down to Alabama.
  8. For all the reasons you mention I sold my duramax and pick up my new 6.6 gasser tomorrow. The 6.6 will be perfect for what I do, which is pull a 6000 pd trailer a half dozen times a month. As far as dunking on the diesel guys, simply asking how much HP and torque they get in limp mode should just about do it. LOL!
