  1. Take a listen again. She said 30% were Trail Boss and an additional 30% were Z71, totalling 60% of Silverado 1500 sales being off-road capable (which really means having an off-road package). She specifically called out that 60% of sales were off-road packages And yes, younger and new buyers are a thing to attract, especially when so many truck configurations are so bloody expensive, the high level trims have been priced out of the new buyer market. GM wants folks buying their first new car to buy high-margin vehicles like a Silverado, not a sub-$20k Cruze. They need <35 year olds buying in if they want to keep selling the high-end trucks to older buyers, as the guys buying those high-end trucks are rarely buying their first truck. I expect the Custom Trail Boss in particular has sold well to younger buyers.
  2. No, 1400lbs is not ridiculously low. It’s on par with a a similarly optioned F-150 Tremor or Ram Rebel, or for that matter a fully optioned up Titan Pro4X (based on door stickers posted in the Titan forums, they range from 1598 to as low as 1398, which is lowest in class) The nominal published payload for these vehicles is always at minimum trim, because optioning up adds weight surprisingly quickly and that costs payload. Plenty of threads out there demonstrating that the actual payload on the door sticker is usually lower than the published spec. The ZR2 according to TTLTruck doesn’t really have options other than tailgate choice and colour. The media one they were looking at was 1400lbs, and had the Multipro tailgate which would be the heavy config. Also I doubt the ZR2 is less capable than a Titan Pro4X. Particularly since the ZR2 has a front locker and better approach and departure angles.
  3. Overall pretty impressive. I like the looks better than the 19-21 models (I never liked the frontend on them, preferring the 16-18 treatment) and with one glaring exception, I love the new interior. The downside? Console shifter. I just really don't want to give up the space of the centre console for a shifter that's a little more 'sporty', but I don't want a bench either. I dig the ZR2 for sure, although I wish they'd revived a different package name for that, the ZR2 should have remained a mid-size specific package (and are we going to get a ZR2 Bison now on the Silverado as the Raptor/TRX competitor?)
  4. It is pretty hilarious to see how many people think 4WD/AWD is magical. The first snow of the year here in Toronto can be quite entertaining to drive in due to how many folks forget that regardless of what your vehicle has, snow is still slipperier than dy asphalt.
  5. Dedicated winters still have better performance in the snow and ice than even a 3-peak rated A/T unless your concern is pure offroad snow performance. The compounds used on Winters does better in the cold. These can be proper truck tires, just winter-dedicated. In some areas you might even run studded winters (I had those on my old Ranger, great on a 2WD truck in Northern Ontario, sadly not legal to run down here in Southern Ontario where I am now) Note you only double the cost if you want nice rims on the winters. You can knock down the winter cost by buying used or cheap rims (much like the car guys do running cheap steelies for their winter setup). A cheap set of stock 18" pull-offs is a good solution for both cost and maximizing tire choice for your winter setup. I'll be an oddity myself, my '17 Z71 came with Blizzak's on some real nice 20" snowflakes, but in the spring I'll be getting some 18" to run A/T's and let me air down more than I could with A/T's on 20" rims.
  6. Little bit of both I’d expect. Tires will expand a little as they heat up, percentage error will grow to being noticeable as the speed goes up. Percentage error is fairly easy to check. If you’re seeing 1mph off at 60mph, flip to KM/H and see if you see 1KM/h at 60KM/H. If you do, your issue is primarily percentage and can be tuned out via calibration. If you don’t, it’s probably a mix of heat-induced growth and percentage error. The resolution of the speedometer is higher in KM/H because the units are smaller and it’s limited to 1mph or 1KM/h as the minimum it can display.
  7. Walk it and check the depth. No way to tell from a picture if it’s fordable.
  8. Go to Settings -> set Time, tap auto-set, and set to On - Cell network That will set your date & time correctly, likely Android Auto is relying on this to ensure it has a good connection to the HMI
  9. Did an 800km road-trip with my new-to-me 2017 Z71 LT 4x4 with the 5.3 on Saturday. Guess I’m one of the lucky ones. AFM barely noticeable and 24MPG for the trip (I don’t have a lead foot). Only way I could tell it was in V4 most of the time was the fairly subtle change in the exhaust sound (I have VERY good ears for changes in noise patterns). I did notice that it felt like the engine lugged for a second or so when in cruise and V4 around 100KM/h on the flats and it added a bit of throttle. That was the only time I could feel AFM as opposed to hearing it. I do wish that there were selectable drive modes on these. Give Sport for those who want AFM disabled and Eco for those of us who would like more AFM engagement when cruising. I know there’s the Range modules, but I don’t want to swap it in when I do distance (I’d like more AFM on the highway, but I’m pretty happy with the city experience so far).
  10. Nice! I’ll make a note of that one for when I add a winch to my rig.
  11. That's one slick winch install. What did you do for the front plate mount?
