  1. How long does it take to do an inspection?
  2. Anyone heard anything more on how/when this recall to happen? My dealer is still in the dark as to when it starts and what the inspection will consist of. They still waiting further instructions from GM. Anyone heard anything more?
  3. I did not realize that the Allison transmissions we’re having problems.
  4. https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/forum/252-2020-2024-silverado-hd-sierra-hd-troubleshooting/ I always thought that the 3500 was for towing, not being towed
  5. Just my speculation but assume that crankshafts are supplied by multiple vendors. Apparently some out of spec crankshafts were in the mix so GM has to figure out which engines they went into. Not sure how they would do this other than to drop the pan and check the numbers on the crankshaft. If it is from the bad batch you then get a new engine. If not part of the bad batch you will get an oil change, new oil cap, and a 10 year 150k mile warranty (from inservice date).
  6. Extended warranty for those that pass inspection. Per GM Authority: Vehicles impacted by the recall will be inspected by authorized GM technicians. If either of the manufacturing defects are detected, the engine will be replaced. For vehicles that pass inspection, GM will provide an oil and filter change using 0W-40 Mobil 1 Supercar oil, as well as a new oil fill cap to match the revised spec. Engines that pass inspection will also receive a new special coverage program that extends warranty protection for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date, whichever comes first. https://gmauthority.com/blog/2025/05...anty-coverage/
  7. Good reading. But don’t see how the camshaft position can be affected by the crankshaft bearings. Unless the bearings are so bad the crankshaft is moving around in the main journals.
  8. I don’t see where P0016 would be involved. It is just the alignment/timing between the crankshaft and the camshaft. This recall is the crankshaft journals and bearings. The P0016 code indicates a problem with the correlation between the camshaft and crankshaft positions in your GM vehicle, meaning they are not in sync. Common causes include a damaged timing chain or belt, faulty sensors, or issues with the variable valve timing system.
  9. More from GM Authorty GM estimates that only three percent of recalled vehicles have a defective engine, or roughly 18,000 units of the 597,630 units recalled in the U.S. https://gmauthority.com/blog/2025/05/gm-6-2l-l87-engine-recall-it-took-14k-people-to-complain-for-it-to-happen/
  10. GMAuthority has published more on the recall. It covers GM vehicles with the L87 6.2L engines produced between March 1, 2021 to May 31, 2024. Total of 597,630 vehicles in the US. Here is the breakdown:
  11. GMAuthorty asked why 2025 models were not included in the recall. Here is what they were told: We asked General Motors, and here’s what they told us: “A series of crankshaft and connecting rod manufacturing improvements implemented on or before June 1st, 2024, addressed contamination and quality issues. Model-year 2025 vehicles were built after these improvements and are not included in the recall.” https://gmauthority.com/blog/2025/04...year-vehicles/
  12. Saw my dealer today. They don’t know anymore than I do. Computer says parts are not yet available. No idea what parts they referencing. They do not know what is to be inspected let alone how in-depth it would be. Right now just a wait and see.
  13. I’m thinking main bearings since they reference connecting rods and crankshafts. Wonder what the inspection will be, drop the pan to check or ?? Maybe they just look for rods sticking through the block?
  14. Just saw that there is a recall on the 6.2L L87 engine in the trucks 2021-2024. Lower end issues, connecting rods/crankshaft. https://gmauthority.com/blog/2025/04...of-propulsion/ First a transmission and now possibly a new engine
  15. Can you describe what it is doing? Handles moving but nothing happening? Acting like it is locked but will not unlock or ???
  16. Been chatting with OnStar, here is what I was told about the Weather Channel app: “The Weather Channel will be removed from the app store and sunsetting from all capable vehicles starting Feb 25 and removed from all vehicles starting March 10, 2025.” That answers my question. Here is what they said was available: Here are the list of the in vehicle apps, - Dash - New York Times - NPR News Radio - People App - USA Today - Washington Post - Wall Street Jounral - iHeart Radio - Spotify - Audio Books/Reese's Book Club In vehicle app support radio with RPO code of IOS, IOT and IOU, IO5 and IO6 for 2017 vehicle and up.
  17. I have a 2022 Sierra 1500 Limited. The Weather Channel app was installed and working great. Yesterday I noticed that it was not there anymore. Checked the apps listing and it is not listed there either. Anyone know what happened? Do I have a problem or was the app pulled?
  18. I was told that it was the reverse solenoid in the valve body that went out. Said they do not replace solenoids in the valve body. They could not get a valve body so ended up with a new transmission.
  19. The manual does not call for transmission service at 45k, apparently considered a sealed system. Had mine in for routine service and was told needed fluid/filter change. I checked all documents I could find and it did list the transmission service for severe use which is not me. Posted on here and most said it was a good idea and good preventative maintenance. So on the advice of those here I had the service done. Dealer completed the service but would not go into reverse when completed. The valve body had checked out somewhere during the service. Don’t know if the service caused the issue or if it just picked that time to die. After about a two month wait I got my truck back with a new transmission. No valve bodies available, on back order with all dealers (several posts on here with their horror stories like this link) so dealer just replaced the transmission. In the future I think I will be careful in doing non-recommended service/maintenance.
  20. Chevy0922, get your service manager involved. Go to the dealership in person, no calls. Talk to the service manager and parts manager and very nicely plead your case. If you can get them involved they can do wonders. There is a huge difference between putting a part request into a computer vs activity tracking down the part. My service manager was able to get a replacement transmission in about a month. No telling what parts are setting on a shelf out there in Podunk USA.
  21. Update: got mine back after 5 weeks with a remanufactured transmission. Running great. Think the key is to get the service manager and parts manager involved and invested. In my case they got involved and actively searched for what was needed. Otherwise it just goes into a computer queue and no telling when something will pop up.
  22. More good news, service manager called and they have received the transmission. Will start work this afternoon and should be ready by Friday.
  23. My understanding is that a remanufactured transmission is a used case with all new guts in it. That is probably what I am getting for my truck. A remanufactured (vs rebuilt) is okay by me. Had one put in a Vette and no problems.
