Yikes - glad that's all that happened!
I just finally found the source of the non-stop rattling over bumps that was coming from the rear of the truck. Sounded like I had a bed full to the top of brake rotors, and every time I hit bumps, CLANG BANG ... drove me nuts for a year and a half. After going down a chuckholed dirt road today, I said THAT'S IT - fixing this TODAY.
Turns out, the upper mount for my airbags was totally loose, and slamming into the frame. When the truck sits, you can't move anything - all feels solid. But, if you jack the truck by the frame, and let the axle hang halfway so the bags are totally unloaded, the play was obvious.
Amazing how much that SOB rusted in 1.5 years. Covered in used motor oil & Fluid Film too. Thought I was going to bust the bolt off in the frame. Got it out thankfully. Wire wheeled the hell out of the bolt, threw medium Loctite on it, ran it in, then slathered the top of the threads sticking out in the frame with anti-seize. Hopefully I won't have to remove them again .. but that should make things a little easier.
Debating whether or not to throw my summer wheels on or not. Been hearing rumors of snow again though ...
