Finally took the leap...
Badbird2000 replied to Badbird2000's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Covers powertrain, including transmission, gaskets, everything inside the engine, electronics. Basically, everything in the truck. You have to provide records of maintenance being done at the required intervals. But not necessarily their dealer. But, my buddy works there so i always request him anyway. -
I've been looking for a new truck to replace my aging 2012 Silverado Crew cab. I tow a 26 foot TT and was looking for an RST or LTZ with max tow package. Couldn't find much at all with 3-400 miles of east Tennessee. Saturday, went down and placed an order for a 2024 RST Glacier Blue, 6.2, Max Tow package. No constraints on any of the options. Dealer said they usually have 2-3 month turnaround for orders. This dealer gives a lifetime warranty on everything they sell. I don't even have to have it serviced with them, as long as keep up documentation of everything serviced. Back in the day, my dad ordered a 1964 C10 pickup, black, with a handful of options (Automatic, moulding package of some kind, V8). My brother found the original order from the dealer in Tampa. Once i get mine, i'll try and get both his and mine framed, and a picture of it. Dad passed away 3 years ago, but he definitely passed along his love and interest in cars to me and my brother. Pretty excited. I'll miss my current truck, 237,000 miles and has never left on the side of the road.

I have abandoned all hope of find a Silverado RST with max tow package near me and have finally resolved myself to ordering one. Anyone know off the top of their head how the strike may affect new orders? Assuming as long as their is a strike, no new trucks... sad face. When my brother and i moved our parents into ALF's, we had to clean out the house. My brother hit the jackpot box that contained my dads orders of cars he bought. He found the order form for his 1961 Impala 2 door Bubbletop and his 1963 C10. I think it might be kinda neat to piece that one together and frame it, put next to my order for my Silverado.

Blue Exhaust Smoke
Badbird2000 replied to BigballR's topic in Gen III & Gen IV V8 Engines (LS-Based)
What year is your truck? What engine? How many miles? I had a 1979 Olds Cutlass back as my first car, it was equipped with a 305 small block. Did the same thing at first start up, blue smoke that cleared up after about a minute. My issue was the valve seals were worn. Car had 155,000 miles. -
High Oil Pressure
Badbird2000 replied to Badbird2000's topic in 1999-2013 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Well, this morning at start up, it pegged out at 80 psi, then dropped to 0. At this point, i assumed it was the sending unit. Drove it to work and it never moved, and it didn't seize up, so i'm assuming its the sending unit. Trying to find a new Silverado RST with the 6.2 and max tow package so i can move on to real problems... like bad lifters and rod bearings.... -
2012 Silverado, 5.3, 230,500 miles. So, i have owned the truck since it was a year old, all maintenance up to date. The truck always has around 50 PSI oil pressure when cold, after it reaches operating temp it is about 30 at idle, 45psi at highway speed. This morning as i was pulling into work, i glanced down and noticed it was around 70 psi. Shut it down and fired it back up, the same. Went out at lunch and drove it, it was around 75psi at start up, almost past 80 at times under acceleration. About 7,00 miles ago, i had the oil pan gasket replaced (it was leaking), and a new sending unit with bypass valve (my buddy is the service tech where i take it, always does great work). Never had anything wonky oil-pressure wise until now. Anyone else had this happen?

'23 6.2 meh performance
Badbird2000 replied to BB68's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I just want to know where you found one with max two package! I'm looking for an RST with the 6.2 and max tow... within a few hundred miles of me.. no dice -
Question about payload capacity..
Badbird2000 replied to Badbird2000's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
You are correct. I have Max Tow on the brain. My current truck does have the tow package, with extra trans cooler, 7 pin connection and few other goodies. It's been a great truck. -
Question about payload capacity..
Badbird2000 replied to Badbird2000's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Thanks. This is what i figured. I may be going a little overkill by wanting max tow, but i currently tow my 25' TT with my 2012 Silverado 5.3 with max tow and 218,000 miles. It does OK on flat ground, but i live in east Tennessee and we don't have that here. If i can find one locally with max tow, i'll try and look at the sticker,. -
So, i'm hunting for a new Silverado RST to replace my 2012 Silverado. I tow a 26' TT. My RST must have the 6.2, because, 420 hp, right? I can find towing capacity based on the truck engine and max two package but i don't see anywhere it lists payload capacity. Is that dependent on the options on the particular truck? I'm probably going to have to order the truck i want as ive been looking and can't find what i want.

2019 vs 2020/2021 grille's
Badbird2000 replied to tech2therescue's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Not sure it would work. they moved the Bowtie up higher on the 22's. -
ALL-TERRAIN tires
Badbird2000 replied to Big_Kahuna's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I'll throw another vote out there for Falken Wildpeak AT3. I am on my second set on my 2012 Z71. I have had a set of Toyo's, two different Nitto's and the Bridgestones it had when i bought it used. The Falkens are the only set ive gone back to. I got about 50,000 miles on the last set, rotating every 5-6,000 miles. Still had really good traction in the rain, pretty quiet for an AT tire. -
So, my 2012 Silverados transmission finally gave up the ghost at 215,000 miles. Piss poor timing, but i get it.. i tow a 6500 lb camper 5 or 6 times a year thru Tennessee and North Carolina. Got a remanufactured unit through GM, dealer put it in, all good. I need to move said camper from my driveway to covered storage about 10 miles away. Is there a good rule of thumb of how many miles i should put on it before i tow? I have about 500 on the new trans right now. It may not matter at all, i just don't want to revist the dealer unless i'm putting in an order for my new Silverado RST With 6.2 and max tow package...

I have a 2012 Silverado Z71 I bought used in 2014, it had 26,000 miles. It's been my faithful every day driver, pulling my hybrid camper 5 years ago and my 26' TT we upgraded to in 2020. On our way back to Knoxville from Charleston, SC two weeks ago, the rear end started screaming. 100 miles from home, just get us home. Got home, got into the shop, buddy diagnosed it with bad pinion bearings. Great, got it fixed up, drove it home, the transmission started acting funny. Like i was driving over rumble strips.. only i wasn't. I called him on the way home, hey, what does it feel like when the torque converter goes? Like that.... well crap. He was able to get into it today, metal shavings in the pan. Getting a rebuilt with 3 year warranty. I've been trying to find a new Silverado RST with 6.2 and max tow package for last 6 months. Nothing. Guess i'll keep this one together for a while longer. I talked to my locale dealer Friday, as of now they can't even order an RST with 6.2....

2001 GMC Sierra Whining Noise
Badbird2000 replied to DAndrews's topic in 1999-2013 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Can you tell if it's coming directly under the truck, or from the rear? My 2012 started making a whining noise from the rear. Turns out it was the pinion bearing. 215,000 miles. -
Here is a few pictures of my new 2023 AT4
Badbird2000 replied to Big_Kahuna's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Really love the front end of the Sierra. Is it a 6.2 or 5.3 or diesel? I'm trying to order a Silverado with a 6.2 with max tow...its not going well for me. Enjoy that truck!! -
TRUCK IS FINALLY HERE !!!
Badbird2000 replied to Big_Kahuna's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
That's awesome! I think GM uses the Borla Touring as the performance exhaust. How long did you wait for the truck you ordered? -
Ordering a new truck...
Badbird2000 replied to Badbird2000's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
That's another thing that is actually making me drag my feet. I am in a credit union and i have watched rates go up the last few months. After a lot of hard work fixing a lot of screwing up in my earlier years, my credit is very good. My current truck has been paid off several years, and even though it has a lot of miles, it still looks great and runs great. I'm just a little paranoid of getting far away from home on a trip and having it blow apart. Of course, with the quality of GM Lifters right now, a new one isn't a safe bet either. I would get pre-approved before i went to the dealer to do anything. But yeah, i am keeping an eye on the economy too. My job is secure, but i would never foolishly extend myself either. -
So, i could probably get my questions answered by going to the dealer, but then the salesman would not stop dry humping my leg until i order, so i'll risk it and ask here. i want a new RST with max tow package, and the 6.2, plus a few other options. Can't find exactly what i want within 500 miles, so i figure i'll bit the bullet and order. My local dealer, in my brief conversations, has mentioned they can usually get orders in 2-3 months, or less. When you order, do they require a deposit and time of order, or does that depend on the dealer? I am looking to get an RST, Glacier Blue, 6.2, 20" wheels, 4x4, grey leather seats, max tow, possibly a sunroof. Currently still driving a 2012 Silverado with 5.3, 212,000 miles. Thanks for stopping by, feel free to flame away for asking a silly question.

Brake pad wear...
Badbird2000 replied to Badbird2000's topic in 1999-2013 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I replace the hardware every time i do a brake job, i didn't notice much rust buildup on the caliber itself. It's possible i didn't use enough lube on the pins, but i try and apply a good amount. Maybe i'll pull it all apart next weekend and check. I'm trying to find a new RST so i keep hoping i won't have to keep diving back into it. Already had to buy a set of tires 5 months ago, still can't find a RST with 6.2 and max tow package. Oh well, tires and brakes are still cheaper than a new truck that has been paid off for 4 years. -
I have a 2012 Silverado crew cab with 210,000 miles. I purchased it used with 26,000 miles, so majority of the miles are all me. I upgraded the front pads and rotors a few years ago to Powerstop Z36 slotted and drilled rotors and heavy duty pads. I tow a travel trailer 6-8 times a year in hilly east Tennessee. I had the rear shoes replaced around 145,000 miles (they still had about 10% pad left, somehow) and had the entire system bled and new fluid replaced (awesome having a buddy as a master mechanic at the local Chevy dealer). Last week I noticed i was getting a vibration in the pedal so i swapped pads this weekend in between rain showers. Both inboard pads were worn completely out, the outboard pads had about 30% pad left. I have never replaced the brake lines. Is the inboard pad were an indication of the flexible line collapsing? Or, a bigger issue with the caliber itself? I had to replace the passenger side 2 years ago as it was dragging and kept wearing quicker than the other side.

Max Tow NHT 6.2?
Badbird2000 replied to calgator73's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Those of you that have the 6.2 with max tow, how difficult was it to find a truck with that option? I want an RST with 6.2, max tow and can't find one within 500 miles of east Tennessee. I tow a 26ft TT, about 7,500 lbs loaded. Just two adults, one kid and a 25 lbs dog inside the cab, couple of chairs in the bed. I currently have a 2012 Crew Cab 5.3 with max tow, 208,000 miles and it's getting long in the tooth. I may have to go down and order one from my local dealer, but who knows how long that will take. -
2019 to 2022 Refresh Review
Badbird2000 replied to GMC-AT's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Nice review. That's actually my favorite color. When i finally get my RST, you have the same options, down to the interior color. Can you post a picture of the interior when you get a chance? I've never seen on on the lot with the grey interior. Hell , i can hardly find ANY on the lot, period. I need the 6.2 with max tow package.... looking for a unicorn it feels like.
