  1. A bad new-style AC Delco PF-48 oil filter from Walmart gave me a CEL with high oil pressure and then no oil pressure trouble codes a year ago when the weather got frigid. Changing oil with a new Wix XP oil filter was the fix.
  2. After 50+ years of intense research, Consumer Reports has awarded their Longest Lasting Truck:
  3. Dexos gen 1 was a synthetic blend spec. That's what the factory fill in your truck was. Subsequent generations of Dexos have been a "full synthetic" spec. GM came up with the Dexos spec in response to the AFM problems. If you run a quality, full synthetic oil and filter, and change it every 5K miles (4K is better), it should be okay. Dexos-rated oil says so right on the bottles--you may already be using it, or it may cost the same as what you are already using. It only takes a minute to look in the oil aisle.
  4. Chevy's latest holiday ad. Thought this was refreshing and heartwarming in the wake of all the woke BS airing these days.
  5. Now it just needs a 455, fiberglass hood, finned rear dif cover, and dual-gate shifter.
  6. Anybody use Speediagnostix for used oil analysis? https://www.speediagnostix.com/shop/p/standard-drain-sample-kit?gclid=Cj0KCQiAyKurBhD5ARIsALamXaF2rNcvdf0xRZanfOWDuQVaEcsGhvGNlNvyXma4kHddKv6_CbLI_z0aAvtYEALw_wcB Lake Speed Jr., The Motor Oil Geek on YouTube, is the son of former NASCAR driver and team owner Lake Speed. A former crew member for Chad Knaus at Melling Racing, Speed joined the Joe Gibbs team in 2004 and led the creation of Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil. He was a member of the NASCAR team that worked with WIX to make their current generation of racing filters. A member of STLE and SAE, Speed’s background in Tribology provides a unique perspective on engine performance and durability.
  7. You can pay a GM dealer to do that for you, but some dealers refuse to do so because of potential safety liability issues. Or you can buy a pricey GM scanner/programmer that will allow you to change the TPS alarm thresholds as needed, amongst other things.
  8. GM/AC Delco recently changed their own oil filter specs from "3/4 turn after contact" to "1 full turn after contact" to avoid oil leaks. Many brand new GM vehicles were being delivered from the factory with oil dripping from the oil filters, as documented by TFL Trucks and others. The GM TSB on this was NA-22-009, dated March 2022. It can be seen here on the NHTSA website (link immediately below). It affects all GM/AC Delco oil filters from 2000 to current year. Most aftermarket filter companies are following suit. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10209921-0001.pdf There are hundreds of thousands of old stock filters on warehouse shelves with boxes and decals stating the old, incorrect "3/4 turn" spec. Because of the ridiculous closeness of the filter to the engine oil pan, you have to use a filter wrench to put it on "1 full turn after contact” tight. And then you damned sure will need a good filter wrench to remove it later on.
  9. Yeah, I hear ya. But here in "flyover country" your choices are Walmart and maybe 1 auto parts store if you're lucky, unless you drive 40+ miles. And the auto parts store costs 2-3 times more for mostly the same stuff. Last year the temp here ranged from -23 to 112F.
  10. Affirmative. At least that's what the labels said. But with Chinese stuff at Walmart, it was probably just blue water.
  11. Nope, straight BLUE "-40" fluid from Walmart. The yellow Prestone/RainX stuff is much much better, but can be hard on paint if it pools.
  12. Only using -40F stuff year 'round. Use washer fluid from O'Reillys now, after I learned the Wally World stuff must be just water with blue dye.
  13. Definitely on the windshield. Maybe in the tank, too, but I quit using it before it froze and busted the tank.
