  1. Getting Tow Beast ready for her first road trip...well first since I've owned it anyway. I will be going about 200 miles each way starting Friday. Something to do with my daughter's Girl Scout troop. I'm hoping I've been volunteered to only haul their stuff and let my wife handle driving the girls in her Jeep. Giggling girls on a 3 hour road trip is not a pleasant time for me.
  2. Me too, that and I really like the 800s.
  3. Which is why I prefer on taking my truck as much as I can, even when it's my own family. Unfortunately the truck isn't up for road trips yet. Still have a few more things to check/replace first.
  4. I haven't even washed mine so...lol Although it does need to be vacuumed out. I topped off the transfer case last night and looked like my "grind" is gone. Still working on getting a replacement all the same.
  5. I discovered a new low speed grinding type sound coming from under the truck. I hope it's just a low fluid level in the transfer case but considering the state that poor thing is in already it may already be beyond hope...
  6. That's what my truck needs so bad. Between what was already caked up underneath and me living on a dirt road. I need to find a replacement splash guard for up front. That doesn't help much either.
  7. That could be one reason for the difference from '03 to '06. Another reason could be that GM made several changes/upgrades on the '06 compared to the '03. I know they got more power out of the engine and some upgrades to the transmission as well.
  8. I'd also say, check the plug on the back on the mirror. My previous truck was giving me same kind of trouble after a windshield replacement. It turned out the installers didn't fully install/seat the plug, it was cocked on an angle so it "felt" tight. Once I unplugged it and then fully plugged it back it, never had trouble again. It's an idea.
  9. As said, not enough payload and bed too short for those with the 5'6" bed. Those slide in campers can get pretty heavy when they are empty. By time you load them up and have that all sitting on your rear axle (mostly), your truck's suspension is going to close if not way over loaded.
  10. What about the fuel pump itself? If you're only get ~20ish PSI then I'd say your pump is toast.
  11. That looks like how I "tested" my G80 axle when I first bought my truck in January. I live on dirt roads so it was fun and a little less stress on the locker...fun being more important...lol
  12. I'll have to remember that as my truck is using a lot of oil. I stopped one leak but I think it's burning some too. I've only had it for 3500 miles and it's going through about 6 quarts of oil (between leaks and burning). I just "changed" my oil over the weekend and after my initial set of oil leak repairs. We'll see how much it helped real soon.
  13. So I've been real busy with work & family but... Replaced front shocks...passenger was completely collapsed. Replaced engine oil cooler lines...what a royal pain in the rump. Took me the better part of the 3 day weekend to get it done. If they leak ever again, I'm NOT going to replace the entire thing. My family got to hear plenty of not so proper language on that job. 14. Trade you in a heartbeat...I love the cold and hate the heat. Can't wait to move back to Alaska after I retire in 18 months.
  15. Well I've had to drive here and there all day today around base....dang AC isn't working and it's been in the 80s the last couple of days....very glad I have a white truck and got all my windows to work....
  16. Not too bad. Since my road has been so bumpy lately I've kept my rear end weighed down with a Radio Flyer and a bag of trash for the extra traction. Man what a difference it makes....
  17. Drove my boy to his Cub Scout meeting yesterday. It was either raining or training to rain ALL weekend so didn't do a thing other then drive the truck here and there.
  18. Been watching it rain yet again today....I may have to swim to my truck later....
  19. I think he was referring to the oil pump screen.
  20. The older 99-07 were the same way...something I'm probably looking at having to do eventually...no fun.
  21. Don't quote me but I think the horn is behind the grill, in front of the radiator. Also keep a couple of extra fuses for the system handy, I think you are going to get extensive use out of it....unfortunately.
  22. LOL. Already have the 3.73s, and typically do get 11...I really enjoy the extra umph of the 6.0. However once I get the coolant flushed and get a new thermostat I think it'll get better. Currently the previous owner has the green stuff in there and I think the thermostat is stuck partly open. It doesn't always come up to full temp, especially in colder temps.
  23. Got gas last night, 12.7mpg on the last tank full. Not too shabby for a 6.0 and a ton of miles driving around town.
  24. I managed to lock myself out of my truck. Took my son to a bday party then to a pool party. Got out & just shut the door.... (insert cuss words)!! I was able to catch a ride home to get a spare & then all was well. Dang it's been a long day.
  25. I can relate to that. My brakes & shocks are next on my list. I get sea sick everytime i hit the speed bumps going on & off base everyday...
