  1. Got around to replacing my rear shocks. Not horrible but still not super simple either. They were both flat & not doing anything but taking up space. New shocks are sooooo much better for the ride of the truck. Also after rerouting that wire bundle from earlier I found out my parking brake fully works now. Helps a lot to not having wires keeping the peddle from going far enough down.
  2. Dude you still have two huge holes in it, of course it's noisy...lol Seriously, looks good, hope it helps. In my case I think between the doors possibly being tweaked and 16 year old seals, the truck always sounds like a window is open.
  3. Picked up & installed a new hood release lever. Also rerouted a wire bundle that wrapped around my parking brake pedal...previous owner mess up there. It took a whopping 10 minutes, took longer to drive to the auto parts store.
  4. Last night I removed the side saddle tool box from the bed. Wasn't using it anyway except to collect junk. Now have full use of the entire bed. Pulled the bed mat out and swept the bed out. I'll keep the mat for now, until I get a spray in liner. Also added a quart of oil, still averaging a quart every ~600 miles. One day I'll find the time to work on those leaks.
  5. Last time I bought transfer case fluid, I found out that O'Reilly's now carries the AC Delco Auto Trak II fluid. Saved a couple of bucks per bottle over dealership prices.
  6. On Saturday after an unusual sequence of events I was left with a broken windshield. No hope of fixing as it's a spider crack that has already spread a good deal...now to schedule for a replacement. Note to all members: Do not throw small glass bottles on your dash...they will bounce and they WILL break something!
  7. The 1405 is what I put on my old '76 Chevy 350. Can't wait until I get a chance to work on that old beast again.
  8. Ordered my new rear shocks from Advance, they're "suppose" to be here tomorrow. Also stopped by local salvage yard...again...this time I found the driver's door courtesy light/reflector housing. $10, works for me as I priced them out at $40 online. The housing was missing when I bought the truck...surprise, surprise.
  9. I'd love to have on of these, but never really had a "need" for one. Maybe one day GM will start making them again AND maybe I'll have a "need" by then. They look awesome!!
  10. Monroe OE Spectrum Light Truck. When I first bought the truck I HAD to replace the front since they were toast and I am pretty happy with them so I figured to give them a shot for the rear too. I would of liked to get the Monroe Load Adjusting shock but they're pretty pricy and don't think I need all that.
  11. Got my axle shaft (driver's side) replaced last night. I had no luck getting the flange out to replace the axle seal so I'll have to tackle that another day. Now the truck rolls a lot quieter especially in 4wd. No more clicking. The new shaft where it mounts to the flange was a different design compared to factory but bolted right up without any issues. I was so glad it came with a new axle nut that included the washer. Just a pain to torque it down but all went pretty slick. Next up is the rear shocks.
  12. This one doesn't have the rear vents either, except the ones under the seat. My old truck had the center counsel so it had the vents built into them.
  13. Picked up a new axle shaft and seal for the truck but ran out of time to get them replaced. However I did replace the footwell light bulbs...kind of nice to have some additional lighting inside the cab when I open the door.
  14. Nah, they new I had gotten a "new" truck before they left. Heck most of them had to drive by where I had my accident to get to work. Plus the "bucket" vs walking across the base was a no brainer.
  15. Some of my guys have finally returned from deployment. Gave a couple of them a ride to go and get there vehicles or a ride home.
  16. No I bought a mini bike a few weeks ago that the engine was toast. So I pulled it out of the bike, but it was so screwed up that I couldn't even disassemble it without the use of my handy 5 lb mini sledge.
  17. Since the family was out of town last night I took some time to finally getting the piston/crankshaft pulled and cleaned up so I can get it mounted for my retirement plaque. The engine was a wreck so it only seemed fitting to pull the remaining good parts to be repurposed.
  18. Just watched the truck get rained on all weekend. With my one axle shaft already making noise I don't want to be driving too much on my incredible "dirt" road. We have ruts that were over a foot deep from others driving on the road. Once I get the shaft replaced I'll be good to go out and hit the roads as I see fit.
  19. Great looking truck!
  20. Well didn't move any furniture as the people had to reschedule so last night I just watched the truck get pelted with pine tree blossoms from a doosey of a thunder storm.
  21. I hauled a bunch of furniture last night that was donated to the local Haven shelter for battered women. It was suppose to be a bed and table, it turned into a household's worth of stuff. We couldn't get it all done last night so tonight I'm going to grab my cargo trailer and get it all in one shot.
  22. Sorry I haven't contributed lately, my computer(s) have been messing up my account...let's see... Oil change, oil and filter this time, still leaking a qt every 600 miles Lubed the undercarriage, those grease fittings on the pitman/idler arm are so much easier to get to with no splash shield in the way...still looking to fab a shield out of a sheet of aluminum that I scrounged up. Replaced passenger side hub bearing. Finally located the clunk and click in driver's side front...need to replace axle shaft...has to wait until next pay day. Located a replacement piece for across the front of the engine over top of the radiator. It was completely missing when I bought the truck. Went to a salvage yard and found one from a wrecked truck that was identical (to include paint color) to my truck. That one must have been diesel as there is a sticker on it that status "Max fuel tank quantity: 100 gallons". Discovered where my blower fan issue is...for whatever reason as I would be driving along with AC on the air flow would slowly diminish and then no air flow. After cutting of the AC, and driving for a few more miles the air flow would come back to normal. So my AC is need of some serious maintenance. I think I'm going to leave that to a pro to figure that one out. I don't have the time, tools or experience to further diagnose the problem. Now for what I've used the truck for and other maintenance. Hauled 20 sheets of plywood to my shop from a local lumber yard. Bought and brought home a mini bike to fix up (for fun) & continuing to work on my little Honda engine...we'll see if I can fit it in the frame of the bike Changed oil in the wife's Jeep Serviced my golf cart batteries, they were pretty low on water Hauled a couple of nitrogen cylinder downtown down and back to a local place to be tested...heavy/bulky buggers Went to Lowe's to get a replacement burner element for the stove...old one kind of got cooked due to we had a grease fire under the element...oops! Replaced the overhead light in the stove Hauled away a pile of scrap metal to my landlord's place for recycling ...and of course... Had a few cups of coffee while driving to and from work Had a few beers while shooting the bull with the neighbors Think I'm all caught up...
  23. Lately I've been hauling a little of this, a little of that, & whatever else. Today the Beast earned a quick bath at the base carwash. Got a few layers of dirt, grit, & pollen off.
  24. Slowing getting my little Honda motorcycle engine back into one piece.
