  1. Just bought this vehicle yesterday and now on the way home going interstate speed’s it’s making a noise like a window was rolled down or something and making my ears hurt along with my wife’s is this normal or is this a common problem and if so what’s the fix?
  2. I’ve been having some issues with the exhaust system I built for my 2015 Sierra 1500 5.3. There is way too much drone. I have TSP long tube headers with a catted y pipe going to a manual exhaust cutout, then some pipe, a flow master 50 series, more pipe, then turns out the side before the axle and sticks out maybe an inch past the quarter panel (all 3in pipe). The muffler could be moved foreword or back. Also I don’t have an exhaust tip. With the cutout closed it is not very loud at idle or on the throttle but when cruising it has a terrible drone. It’s very annoying. Because of this I’ve been leaving the cutout open all the time. With it open, it’s very loud and I have to watch it around cops but cruising on highway it isn’t annoying and it doesn’t have any drone cruising. I’d like to modify the system in two ways. I want to get rid of the drone and I want to switch to a louder muffler, probably a glass pack. The 50 series it way too mild for me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Hey everyone, I need some advice! I've spent countless hours using the search function, sending PM's to members (and you guys don't need to respond again if you don't want to), and listening to YouTube videos (which suck because you can't hear what they sound like from inside the cab going down the road)...but I still can't make up my mind! I want to do a muffler swap on my truck (details in signature). I don't want to spend the money on a full cat-back system...I'm just going to swap the muffler and cut the factory tail pipe so it dumps over the rear axle. I want the sound to be deep and aggressive under acceleration....but close to stock (no drone) while cruising....and without any goofy stuff going on when it switches to V4 mode. My budget is around $200. I've narrowed my choices down to 5 different mufflers....and will explain my concerns & reasons for hesitation with each one. In no particular order: Magnaflow 22" 12589 - I'm concerned about it being too quiet (unless I'm at WOT) for people to even notice, and also worried about drone while cruising (I've heard too many people that complained about magnaflows having drone) Borla Sport 19131347 - I'm concerned about it being too loud in the cab while cruising and switching V8/V4 (or just too loud in the cab in general) Borla Touring 19131346 - Basically just concerned that it's going to be too tame, and I won't hardly be able to tell any difference from stock. Not worried about the drone with this one though. Dynomax VT 17949 - I'm worried about the spring/valve assembly breaking or rattling...and having to get it fixed or replaced after a short period of time. I like the concept, but the moving parts make me nervous. Dynomax Ultra Flo 20" 17233 - Can't find a single sound clip of this muffler on a 5.3; worried about drone and V8/V4 noise I would appreciate any advice (or sound clips) you all can provide. I'm a nervous wreck over this situation, and I can only afford to do this once! Also, please skip the comments about Corsa (I know they're awesome, but I refuse to spend that much money on a muffler) and straight pipes (been there, done that...over it). Thanks in advance everyone!
  4. Anyone know what this noise is? It's very intermittent. Seems to do it most often between 40 and 50 MPH cruising with maybe a slight up hill. Never does it on coast or heavy acceleration. I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado Z71 with the 5.3L engine and long story short the exhaust set up i have is i cut everything after the CATs and put a single chamber Flowmaster super 10 and dumped it off right before the axle. I am trying to find a solution to the horrible drone i experience around 1700-2000 RPMs and the "helicopter" sound I experience when the engine switches into 4 cylinder mode. I still have the factory section of the exhaust i cut off which has the flapper which I am wondering if putting the flapper back in would solve the helicopter sound as well as fix the drone? I'm mediocre when it comes to knowledge when it comes to exhaust at best so i have no idea what it would take. What would it take/what is the best solution to make my exhaust remain loud when i get on it but not be annoying as heck in the cab when i am at speed and on the freeway? Thanks for your time in advance!

I fabricated true dual exhaust for my 2009 Silverado this weekend and have been plagued by horrible drone at 2000 RPM. cat back is 3" exhaust with x pipe right after cats and 10" flex pipes. dual exits before the rear wheel with 5 inch tips. Unsure if I should add a resonator and if so which one. don't want to loose the volume or flow but cant deal with the drone. will post pics of system soon. anything helps
  7. Has anyone installed an aftermarket exhaust, with or without the flapper valve? If so, how is the sound of what you have and is the drone bad? GM-Borla with valve worth the money? Mine is stock 5.3 thanks!
