  1. Past hour
  2. Not sure why this is people’s go to when they get defensive and wrong. It’s not about it blowing up right this second. It’s about taking care of your stuff. If you could get one of two products that cost extremely similar or the same but one is markedly better, why wouldn’t you get the better one? Literally makes no sense.
  3. Today
  4. As Dyson used to say, like a screen door on a submarine. And how many motors have you had in continuous daily service for 15/20 years? Or are you saying of all the motors you've owned in 15/20 years, none have blown? Devil is in the details. Uncle Garry put a million miles on a Isuzu diesel delivery truck shagging parts for White Freightliner in two years without a single major repair. My mother didn't put 100K on the sum total of her lifetime of driving in 7 decades. She managed to kill every car she every drove, about a dozen. Literally. Context. It's the problem with anecdotal evidence.
  5. I ain't blowed up an engine in the last 15-20 years running wix filters from Napa, don't see that changing anytime soon. Stats this and stats that, big deal. Run good oil, change it often and you'll be just fine.
  6. Used to* and wix xp efficiency is god awful
  7. At the end of the day, A, B or C you'll be fine. A (the one that replaced the R filters) will work on non R (B) applications. You just don't want to use a non R (B) on an R (A) application. So like the 3.6 V6 LGX in the Acadia, XT5, XT6, Blazer and Camaro, or the 3.0TT V6 in the Cadillacs, you do NOT want to use what was the blue PF63 (now PF63B). You have to use the UPF63R black (now PF63A) filter due to the oil pressure those engines create on cold start that can burst a regular PF63. Once the dust settles on the supplier changes hopefully they can clear it all up and simplify things back to how they were.
  8. I’m all confused again …
  9. Wix makes good filters.
  10. I just bought this. A minimum for me but, I don`t work anymore and don`t want the heavy update costs of the higher end tools. You would have to make money with them. https://www.topdon.us/collections/diagnostic-tools/products/artidiag-pro Even this tool has a $250.00 update cost after 2 years.
  11. I have an Autel, works great for what it is. Can't do some specific things because you need say the GM tool, VCDS for Audi/Volkswagon and others of course. But those times are few and far between for me. The other tool I'd like to try one day is the new Topdon scan tools. Seen several video's on them and many youtube people review them. I've never subscribed for updates or payed to do that stuff on my Autel, so I'm sure I'm missing out on some of the updates but I'm fine with that for now.
  12. I am in the market for a bidirectional scan tool so was hoping someone can help point me in the right direction. There are so many options out there it is hard to narrow down which make/model to choose. I have always done my own vehicle work so looking to maximize capability with the scanner. Ideal price is $1k or less but would be willing to exceed if it opens up significant benefits. Currently my 24 2500 is the newest vehicle but also have a few mid to late 2010s Subarus as well. It seems that the Autel MP900 has a decent amount of features at a reasonable price?

  14. There was talk over the last couple of years that the contract to build these trucks between GM and International would not be renewed. International moved production of all their other trucks besides the companion CV model out of the Springfield plant some time ago when they opened their San Antonio plant. That left Springfield only building the Silverado Medium Duty, International CV Series, and some Express/Savanna long wheelbase cutaways. International also put the plant up for sale some time ago. This all answered my earlier question as to why GM and International did nothing with these trucks since they were introduced, as they had basically become a market 'placeholder' with a finite life. The Silverado Medium Duty/International CV trucks were interesting combination of a GM powertrain, electrical system, and K2XX Silverado cab with an International chassis that was supposedly designed for a step-van type vehicle they never produced. They were manufactured in International's Springfield plant along with the IH MV series initially. When first introduced, there was much talk that the Silverado Medium Duty/CV would eventually get a gasoline engine option along with other upgrades and GM and IH would work on a class 6/7 joint venture truck. This was before VW bought Navistar out, after that happened no more was said. Draw your own conclusions... About the time talk started that the GM/IH joint venture was not going to be renewed, rumors started that GM would develop a new line of medium duty trucks themselves. The story is the new trucks will be part of the next generation HD's due in 2028, and will still feature a 'straight rail' chassis design that the current medium duty has. GM views this as a desirable feature that differentiates their truck from the competition. A gasoline engine option is also expected. As the current Silverado Medium Duty remains in production until September 2026 and there is still a lot of inventory available do not expect any official word for some time. I believe GM remains committed to their successful partnership with Isuzu, and all the LCF models will still be available from Chevy Commercial dealers. Isuzu is on the cusp of opening a new large plant in South Carolina and there is also speculation that this may result in new product for both Isuzu and Chevy Commercial dealers.
  15. drive the truck back to the dealer and complain that the button works.

  17. I have a 2026 2500 HD Ultimate. My phone app says there’s a software update available. It’s something about improved battery management and something to do with the running boards. I follow the instructions for the update but the “Check for Updates” option is greyed out in my settings menu. Has anyone else seen this? How did you resolve it? The help message just says “see your dealer” if the download doesn’t work. I’m just trying to save a trip.
  18. Fuel mileage? That's all how you use your right foot. Exhaust will give you sound. Stock exhaust 5.3 is 2.75" diameter piping. If the truck is nice and worth putting some $$ into it, I'd go for a Corsa catback. I had one on my 2019 old body 5.3 and it was just perfect. Zero drone, just driving around and cruising on the highway you'd think it was stock, but when you opened it up it was like a Camaro with the factory dual mode. Corsa bumps their catback to 3in diameter.
  19. First brands was the holding company that owned Champion Labs and Fram, + many other auto parts companies. Those brands are not making filters anymore. Premium Guard Inc. (PGI) acquired the intellectual property for both FRAM and Champion Labs. Premium Guard is a similar company as Champion Labs was.
  20. My info is right from stuff we got from GM for the "A" and "B" and what they replace based on the old Duraguard (blue non "R" filters) and Ultraguard Gold (black "UPFXXR" filters) which are now gone as a result of the First Brands issue.
  21. It was this video where I saw there are now 3 different supplier and one of them is a value model.
  22. So far they are all ones "not to stay away from"? I haven't cut any open yet though to compare A and B style. As for what they replace: B = regular "blue" Duraguard A = The "black" Ultraguard Gold. So like UPF63R is now the PF63A. C = That I can tell, alternate supplier or same supplier but alternate model being used. Right now on like PF63 for example though, the "B" is on backorder again so we are using the "A" for both PF63 and UPF63R usage. Same with PF64s, the B is backordered, so we are using A. PF66, the most recent case we got were actually from SAIC-GM from China (GM ETurbo engines so 1.0, 1.2 and 1.3 turbo 3 cylinder). They look like engine assembly plant filters to me which even for US products have different labeling on the cans. These ones are blue with the SAIC-GM logo on them.
  23. I'm still unclear on the multi-supplier A/B/C filter designations, as they all supposedly come from different suppliers now. A = OE, which replaces "blue" AcDelco filters of yesteryear? B = ? C = ? One is supposed to be their value line/ budget friendly. We need to know which ones to stay away from.
  24. The video for the Ford 7.3 tear down is up. He's not a fan of the oil pump design. This one died from the known cam/lifter failure issue. For some reason this site is not letting me embed a link but here it is to copy/paste: https://youtu.be/4Memby-jB9I?si=SmK1VuBgZ7UgsZCz
  25. Thanks everyone and especially Newdude for taking the time to explain the story in detail. I am now much more confident about what I’m ordering.
  26. Thank you for the website reference. It helped a lot, now I can see that there are some other warranties applied to my truck, Thanks again.
