No, that is 100%. One, truck had issues. The only one with AFM.
I hate to think this but it appears that I have already purchased my last GM product. I'm 55 years old and I've owned 8 GM made vehicles in the time that I've been driving. Only one with AFM and it was the ONLY one that I had issues with. 2008 Silverado with 5.3. First was oil pump failure. Next was a collapsed lifter that also wiped out the camshaft. Next was a failed injector. I currently own a 2012 Silverado with a 6.2 and no AFM. No issues. Before the 2008 I had a 1999 Silverado with the 4.8 and no AFM . No issues. NO thanks GM. No more of your gimmicks for me.
2011 and 2012 Kawasaki Brute Force 750. The 2011 still looks the same. I have a sound tube thing for it but it wasn't on it when I took this picture. I don't have a good picture of the 2012 with everything that I've added (sound tube, trunk / back rest, fender flares, and passenger pegs.) so this one will have to do for now.
Two Kawasaki Brute Force 750s. Left one is a 2012, right one is a 2011.

Well HELL! I had a fairly long reply typed out but I wasn't signed in... I agree with some of what you said. You usually only hear from the ones that have had a problem. I am one that has. One out of four trucks had AFM and that is the only one that had engine problems. I'll not be buying another! I've owned a '95, '99, '08, and '12. Still have all but the '95. The AFM JUNK on the '08 has been disabled. I don't agree with not offering the 3.73 ratio no matter the transmission.
GM just keeps giving me reasons to not buy another truck from them making me glad I bought my truck when I did. My 6.2 doesn't have AFM and I am VERY glad it doesn't. Now the NHT is going to have 3.42 gear ratio instead of 3.73... Max should mean MAX.
Me finding out what StabiliTrak is good for. Getting stuck in shallow but slick mud! Turning off Traction Control was easy enough to figure out but I couldn't figure out how to turn off the other junk. I know how to now though. Too bad all that BS isn't an option that I could leave off and not pay for.
I have several posts on another forum regarding my gas mileage. I'll try to copy and paste the ones that concern mileage while towing here. All mileage numbers are hand calculated. My truck doesn't have the DIC thing. Checked my mileage again this past weekend while towing a 6' X 10' enclosed trailer. A bit over 200 miles each direction - almost all interstate. Running 76 mph - 77 mph into a headwind going I got 8.7 mpg. Coming back I drove 74 mph - 75 mph and had a slight tail wind. Got 9.8 mpg. Not good at all considering how little weight I was hauling. Going to be "interesting" to see what I get when I tie onto my 7' X 16' enclosed trailer.... Mileage from this past weekend. From northwest Louisiana to Lincoln, Nebraska and back. Pulled a 6X12 tandem axle U-Haul trailer to Nebraska. No trailer and empty coming back. Didn't check first tank... Second tank (with trailer) 11.6 mpg; third tank (with trailer) 12.9 mpg (had a 30mph - 35mph tailwind going through Oklahoma and Kansas. ); fourth tank (some with trailer, some in town, and some without trailer) 11.7 mpg; fifth tank (all without trailer) 16.2 mpg; sixth tank (all without trailer, mostly 45mph to 60 mph, and down hill!) 17.7 mpg.
I don't own a 1911 but I've shot a few. The one that I liked the best is a Colt with a Clark Custom Guns trigger job that my son owns. It wasn't bad at all before the trigger job. It is sweet now. Rifles: Remington Model 700. Caliber: You have plenty to choose from that are all very similar. I use a 7mm Rem. Mag. My son has a .270 WSM. Scope: I have a Nikon from 1989. It was expensive back when I bought it. It's a good scope but there are better. My son has a Leupold Vari-X II. You can find them for less than $400 new (try eBay). I like the Leupold better than my Nikon. Eye relief isn't as critical.
Just noticed this thread... I've been in the "Red Truck Club" for a looong time. Started with a 1991 extended cab Toyota. Then these three Silverados. 1999 ext. cab with 4.8, 2008 ext. cab with 5.3, and 2012 crew cab with 6.2.
Yes, I would. I bought a 1999 and a 2008. I won't be buying a 2014 but that isn't because it's a first year truck. The main reason is because the '14 has AFM on all the engines now. I do not like AFM engines! Second reason is due to the limited interior color choices. I've had one truck with black interior ('08). I'll not buy another.
I don't get what I'd consider good gas mileage but I didn't buy this truck expecting to get good gas mileage. I ordered my truck without a lot of options and gizmos so I don't have DIC. All my mileage is hand calculated. Below is the mileage from three different trips. Mileage from northwest Louisiana to Lincoln, Nebraska and back. Pulled a 6X12 tandem axle U-Haul trailer to Nebraska. No trailer and empty coming back. Didn't check first tank... Second tank (with trailer) 11.6 mpg; third tank (with trailer) 12.9 mpg (had a 30mph - 35mph tailwind going through Oklahoma and Kansas.); fourth tank (some with trailer, some in town, and some without trailer) 11.7 mpg; fifth tank (all without trailer) 16.2 mpg; sixth tank (all without trailer, mostly 45mph to 60 mph, and down hill!) 17.7 mpg. Mileage from northern Louisiana to southern Nebraska and back - no trailer either way. Had the back seat loaded down pretty good on the way up. The mileage on the three tanks that I checked were: 17.66,17.38, and 17.70. Mileage from north Louisiana to south Louisiana and back (mostly 75+ on the interstate). 16.52; 16.39; 16.57. I have yet to see 18 mpg. I always buy premium (usually 93 but in some parts of the country premium is 91). I try to find ethanol free but that isn't always possible. Truck is completely stock 2012 crew cab with MAX Trailering Pack.
