  1. Oh yeah, I have the Range Technology AFM Disabler and although it's nice to have the truck in V8 all the time, it makes no difference in the vibration. I will say they definitely tweaked the transmission shift point to get max MPG's in this truck. I literally can be on flat local rd and by highs 30MPH's it's in 5'th gear and by mid 40's in 6'th gear. Combine that with AFM and it's ridiculous to be lugging around at that speed in those gears. Anytime you hit gas it has to downshift 3-4 gears. Suspect the transmission is a contributing factor to our vibration problems.
  2. People have replaced and had their driveshafts balanced and the problem did not go away. I have read every pge of this post, as I too suffer the dreaded vibration problem.
  3. "Used to see" you meant to say, as it pertains to this vibration post...they seem to avoid engaging anyone recently on the vibration issue. Strange as it has to be one of the longest posts on the trouble list, with the most views. Oh we'll maybe if they ignore it long enough it will go away! No chance of that happening those of us w/ the problem know too well.
  4. I think you are correct in your assessment, "harmonic vibration" based on the experience I have had, and feedback I have gotten from a dealer I am currently working with to try to resolve the vibration ( not the dealer I bought truck from). There has been a lot of good feedback on this forum and I will be sure to keep everyone posted on the outcome. Mine is 2014 6.2 sierra SLT crew cab with short bed, and z71. Dealer has a GM tech on staff and they are focused on exhaust system...more specifically the flapper valve in the exhaust. I will post more complete details as soon as they are done, including the dealer info and work done. GM is aware of this issue and they have been willing to work with this dealer to explore different angles. So at a minimum GM is not in denial. I think the big difference people are having in terms of response is predicated on the dealer and dealer service departments competence and relationship with GM. Fingers crossed.
  5. Ok we'll they have lost a repeat buyer after 3k miles for this owner I agree their plate is full, but still no excuse for all of us to live with this BS on new truck. First and last GMC truck for me. And I will make sure to go out of my way on the Internet and with anyone asking about my experience who might be considering buying a GM pickup to tell of the problem.
  6. Speaking of GM's current position regarding public perception, and corporate leadership: on TV right now is GM CEO testifying to Congress, trying to explain their actions on the ignition recall.
  7. GM engineers owe dealers and thus owners an answer...all we have so far are multiple different suggestions from different dealer service departments as to what might be the cause, with almost no resolution despite rebalancing and replacing a bunch of different parts; wheels, driveshafts, engine mounts, rear gears, rear ends, tires...it's a complete joke. And we are all the fools. GM engineers should take a vibrating truck and go through every single possible option at the factory to determine the engineering solution. Until then we all are wasting our time and money chasing a fix through dealer service departments. This post is not blaming dealers, it's squarely pointed at GM. The dealers are stuck trying to diagnose a factory defect. Good luck with that.
  8. Again we have all read stories of these vibration meters...has anyone actually had success following the diagnoses in terms of a mechanical repair or replacement of a part proven to be the cause of the vibration?
  9. We dropped $50k on a new truck, and you think it's acceptable to spend our time driving around to different shops to diagnose a flawed design? Sorry, I don't think so. I have a job I wake up for at 4:30 and return home normally around 7pm...Should we all take time off from work, or sacrifice family time on a Saturday when most shops would be closed, to find the solution that GM owes it's owners. This isn't a 15 yr old off warranty truck. It's brand spanking new, not only under warranty but covered by LEMON LAWS. No way am I taking the time to fix GM's problem. I have spent enough of my own time and money chasing solutions
  10. Let's discuss how to pool our collective resources and approach GM with one unified complaint. They are currently not in a position to have another publicly embarrassing incident regarding not acknowledging a manufacturing flaw. Instead of some of you having your brand new trucks sitting at a dealer service dpt for days and sometimes weeks at a time...u paid GM for a brand new vehicle, and not in your driveway. We could have bought Ford's or Ram's, or Toyota's...but we dropped the $45-55k on a new GM "redesigned" 2014 truck. They (not necessarily our dealer service departments who are searching for a fix) owe us all an answer, and a fix.
  11. And yes the had to rotate one of the tires 180 degrees on first of the two re-balances. I think as another poster said back somewhere in this nearly 60 pge thread there are at least 2 separate issues that are causing the vibrations. This is not simply about trying a new tire until u get lucky enough for the harmonic vibration to dissipate. Dissipate as opposed to eliminate. Kick in the balls was my original dealer I bought truck from and who royally messed up the original road force balance, refused to give me a dime for the GY SRA's I paid an extra $200 for from the factory, claiming they are All Terrain tires. They are nowhere near All Terrain tread. And the tires had 10test drive miles on them.
  12. I removed GY SRA's upon deliver had the dealer rebalance (road force) the new tires...drove it home first day to a horrible vibration. A week later had a very well regarded shop road force balance all 4 tires, not once, but twice (out of pocket) as they said the dealer balance was way off. It helped the vibration but did not in any way eliminate it. I think yourself and anyone else who had success switching tires and road force balancing got lucky or didn't have the structural (likely harmonic) vibration the rest of us have.
  13. Open to all suggestions as to how we can proceed to gather our feedback and approach GM???
  14. I find it amazing that GM has not officially admitted the vibration is an engineering fault, and come up with a solution given the growing chorus of owners of brand new trucks that have the symptoms. I have followed this post from the beginning, and feel strongly this is NOT a tire or wheel balancing issue...those issues only further exposé what is clearly a fault in the construction of the truck and or the systems the truck employs to reach the stated mpg, or noise reduction goals. This is a harmonic vibration which gets further exposed by any slightly out of round or out of balance tire. I too am dealing with the vibration, felt mostly from 72-80mph, or exactly the speed range for highway cruising. I have had not one but two road force balances with no sucess. Now that GM is in the headlines daily for the way they handled their ignition recalls, those of us experiencing this vibration issue, with no success from most dealers, or any official word from GM that it even exists, should consider pooling our collective opinions in a more official way and present them to GM publicly, and see if they respond. Otherwise, the Internet ( outside of this forum) is a powerful tool. Either way just posting my opinion, and suggesting given GM's current position they would be unwise to ignore a group of very unhappy owners of brad new trucks who have a collective voice.
  15. http://www.rangetechnology.com/pages/v8 Have had my Range Technology AFM installed for 1500 trouble free miles. No more V4 in my 6.2 liter V8 It takes all of 5seconds to plug in under the driver side dash in the OBD port. I did not spend 52k on a 1/2 ton truck, to have half the cylinders working. I averaged 17mpg on 6hr (hilly) drive to upstate NY, with my cruise control on for maybe half the time, and speeds ranging anywhere from 74-85mph. Probably would have 19-20mpg if I slowed down to 65-70. Well worth the $179 spent. Not detectable and easily unplugged in seconds if ever getting dealer servicing. I will get a tune one day but only have 2300miles on the truck and want to wait till something around 8-10k before going down that road. Likely will use BlackBear when I do it based on what I've read on this forum.
  16. http://www.rangetechnology.com/pages/v8 I installed the Range Technology V8 AFM disabler, yesterday and so far so good. I did not buy the 6.2 to worry about modest mpg gain while running only 4 cylinders. Since Range is still in beta test mode for the 6.2 plug-in I was able to get it for $179 or -$20 off msrp, and it shipped it arrived Sat. Takes all of 15 seconds to plug into the OBD port under the dash, and that's it...No more cyclinder de-activation. I've only driven like 40miles so far but it works seamlessly, and I have not gotten any engine warning light triggered. No more lugging down the highway in 4 cyclinder mode. Range said all ECU's are different, and the reason for the beta test is to make sure they have the widest range of potential ECU timing in order to release a product that will work with highest percentage of 6.2 engines. They estimated aprox 5% of the ECU's will never be able to work with their disabler (something about timing the electronic pulses), so it's nice to be the "other" 95% as my truck so far has been as advirtised. I am driving 6hrs each way on Wed for a 4 day family trip, so will let you know if anything changes. Fot those who never want their 6.2 V8 to be half the motor you paid for this Range Technology disabler seems like the perfect answer for $199.
