Shake or Vibration Issues
BR-TEXAS replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
IMHO and besides some trucks with real problems, in general these 2014 trucks are just super sensitive (conceptual problem) to wheels and/or drive shaft out of perfect balance. When you put the low cost Goodyears and aluminum drive shafts that are produced and balanced "one per minute", with this sensitive truck, the result is this vibration. GM produces about thousand trucks per day, this "border line" design just works in product that are really individually assembled. Like high end products/cars, where they can choose and manage just perfect (within minimal specs) parts. I have Nittos Terra now and the trucks is much better. Next step should be balance the drive shaft in a specialized shop. Again, IMHO and besides some trucks with real problems.. -

The same speech from the district manager here. The numbers from the road test analyzers always "normal" (they defined what is normal) and stiffer suspension due Z71 and 4WD (BS...). Looks like GM had instructed they people this BS speech and avoid the costs to replace drivelines w/o results. -

Any idea if vibration on this could be related? http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/163658-difference-in-rear-height/ -

They did that 2 times with my truck. The results always are "normal". And the "normal" is defined by GM... Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Shake or Vibration Issues

The same here, but I believe that the only way to solve or at least try to solve it is continuously talking with GM and the dealer. This forum is great but the GM engineers look this in a different way, in special when we start to see to discussion based on ice or not.. we can do all type of experiences here, but will be worthless to bring it to GM (for several reason, like environmental not controlled, accuracy of the results, unwillingness to recognize the problem, etc) Unfortunately they will not read our posts here and call us, we need to keep calling them... -

Anyone with non-Z71 (stiffer suspension) has the vibration issue? I tested some z71 and non-z71 and looks like the non-z71 absorb (hide) the problem better. -

33x12.5: cooper st maxxx: 305/60R18: (specs: 32.64" x 12.1") (no rubbing) 33x12.5: Nitto terra gapplers: 305/55R20: (specs: 33.07" x 12.6") (rubbing) Looks like you found a perfect set-up. -
Shake or Vibration Issues
BR-TEXAS replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
In conversation with my service advisor, he commented some suspicion from GM regarding the aerodynamics in this new body. But when I asked why double cab, crew cab short and crew cab long have the some problem, no answer.. I know that is different, but I had the vibration with and without tonneau cover. -

I was at discount tire to replace the GY with Nitto terra gapplers. But I decided to don't do that since my truck vibrates really bad and I don't want to have this type of discussion (aftermarket tires) with the dealer. Also if they replace the tires for a better/new tires, plus new rear end, driver shaft, etc, and the truck still vibrating bad, will be a lemon law/buyback. If they solved 90-100% of the problem, them I will replace the tires plus alignment out of the dealer. -

GM still trying to get an answer for that. Should not be easy/cheap... I have all type of vibrations (accelerating from a standing 40mph, 70mph...) It's a GMC SLT CrewCab 5.3 3.42 4x4 Z71. 20" GY SRA Drove a loaner that had just 15miles. 80% better regarding vibration, not smooth as glass but you can live with that. But mine also was ok, but was getting worse after 2.000miles... what makes me thinking that this loaner will have the same problem in a couple of months. And the loaner was a complete different animal: DoubleCab, V6, 4x2, no-Z71 20" Continental... -
2014+ Truck Bed / Tonneau Covers

I have a bakflip VP. I bought the tailgate seal from fold-a-cover, but I believe they are all the same. Just installed on the sides (first installed also on the bottom but them the tailgate will be harder to close, so I didn't want to mess with the adjustment). I also was thinking in silicon for the gaps in the bed (summit white here, so I can use a white silicon) but the top corners still a problem. -

Shake or Vibration Issues
BR-TEXAS replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
I'm agree when you say that these trucks seem to be very sensitive to tire balance. According to the dealer: GM will replace a tire that needs more than 24 but these trucks needs to have a tires with less than 15. take it or leave it. Based on my current open case and all the information here, tires should be the solution just for some of those trucks. There are various other problems that isolated and associate, creates the vibration. (drive shaft, read end, resonance in the exhaust, etc). Looks like a very sensitive truck in general, humble customer opinion, they trying to get it lighter and lighter and this is the result... (Crew Cabs: GM: 5200lbs, F150:5600lbs, RAM: 5500lbs). So, when you have 500.000 "sensitive" trucks produced plus some quality control problem, statically we will find a lot with no problem, and a lot with different type of problems... -

I did marking the rear tires to check if they were slipping. With just one day of observation (with some hard launch with cold tires) and no slipping. -

One more here... Sierra SLT 4x4 20" all-terrain tires. Produced in feb/14. Yesterday went to San Antonio and back to Austin. All the time trying to find a tolerable speed which the truck vibrates less, sometimes 73, sometimes 78, sometimes impossible. Just left the truck at the dealer (second time). First time they just did a RF balance. Partially solved for a couple of hundreds of miles. Truck now with 2.000 miles.... The service manager told me that they have others with similar problem (I asked what was the solution and so far no solution, according to him...) Looks like they don' t know what to do and will start to make some experiences... I saw some new trucks in the service area w/o tires, looks like the rotation games will start... -

I believe that the water is coming from the same gap that the daylight is coming in this picture (in red). I think that there is nothing related to this specific cover. -

2014+ Truck Bed / Tonneau Covers

Installed Bakflip VP last week. Really easy to install. After car wash, I saw just two small water leaks. Looks like the water came from those open gaps in corners of the bed. Any suggestion (besides a silver tape)? -
