  1. Update: I finally got the truck running after all the issues. I drilled and tapped all 10 head bolt holes with the NS300L system. I will post a separate thread on that job. I obtained 4 new lifters and reassembled the engine. I started it up and it had a miss in cylinder #4 again. I did the normal troubleshooting before I pulled the valve cover off and found both new lifters failed again in cylinder 4. There was no lifter tap. Restarting the engine with the valve cover off showed the lifters working then not working. I suspected a bad VLOM but cranking the engine while off showed the same issues. Pulled apart again with two more new lifters and reassembled. So far, all is well. Now I have to drive to reset the monitors then take it through inspection. I am now an expert pulling off the passenger side head. Only took two hours this time to disassemble and 3 hours to assemble. I did finally invest in a new digital angle torque wrench. Really makes torquing the head bolts easier.
  2. That looks like the left bolt that goes through the AC compressor. The right bolt is a stud. Is it 13MM?
  3. The guy who I talked to was the one who said there may be issues with inspection. He was not too informed about the whole tuning out the AFM via software. He said he sends the ECMs out for any tuning. I'm even having a hard time finding someone in Southern New Jersey who does tuning. Internet searches bring up a lot of vendors but none are standing out as the one to go to.
  4. In that case, DFM was deleted in the software by GM. Nobody has come forward with any answers that if I delete the AFM via tuner will it cause any issues with New Jersey OBD2 inspection. Others around the country have commented but nobody from New Jersey has confirmed or deny any issues.
  5. Update #2: I was able to obtain a new VLOM at a decent price of $220. Disassembled and replace the four AFM lifters on passenger side, installed VLOM and started reassembly. Torquing the 7th head bolt to the final degrees and it let loose. I guess having the head removed 4 times was the limit. Now I have to start over. I just purchased the NS300L head bolt rethread kit and will do all 10 head bolt holes. Youtube videos look straiaght forward on how to do the job. Now another set of head bolts and head gasket. I can just imagine what this would have cost at a dealer. I found this video on youtube. He shows how the VLOM will fail causing the AFM lifters to fail. I did this test and yes, the solenoids leaked just like in the video.
  6. This youtube video chirp is more consistent but it may be relevent. The example is at 58:32 minutes. The cause was a bad lifter and cam.
  7. Update: I replaced the bent pushrod and reassembled. Restarted and tapping still there. Bitting the bullet and gonna replace the lifters. Once I get it through inspection, I'll tear it down again and do the DOD AFM delete. Was hoping to get off easy but no such luck. Looks like another $250 to replace the lifters. Also, it looks like the dealer stripped an exhaust manifold bolt. Easy to fix once the head is off. Really sucks that VLOMs are nowhere to be found. I think thats my issue.
  8. Update: Started disassembly today. Confirmed that one of the pushrods on cylinder #4 was bent. I replaced the pushrod and it opens and closes normally. The AFM lifters were replaced several months ago. Is it possible that I only have a bent pushrod? I have had and read so much about the AFM horrors that I am hoping I got off easy. So far I am only out my labor. I didn't dig into anything that will cost parts like coolant, fuel lines, or head gasket. I guess I can reassemble everything and see what happens. What does everyone think?
  9. So you are saying that if the ECM is tuned before the DOD conversion and there is no codes before the work is done, then I should be ok? I was thinking of getting a DiabloSport and do an 87 octance tune with the AFM turned off. My truck is ticking due to a bad lifter on cylinder #4 with no codes yet. This is the 5th time I have had this problem. The dealer covered the first 4 times. All on cylinder #4, or at least the last 3 were on cylinder #4. That leads me to suspect the VLOM since its always the same cylinder. And no, the dealer didn't change the VLOM on all the other repairs. The problem now is that the VLOM is not in stock anywhere. Since the last dealer repair was about 5 months ago, I plan of replacing the one lifter, one head gasket, and 10 cylinder head bolts should cost about $125. That will get me past my inspection on 2/2024. I'll have two years till the next inspection. If it goes bad again, then the full DOD delete or sell the truck.
  10. I do have the Range disabler and I use it. And yes, it needs to be removed with enough time for the monitors to reset. I am talking about doing a full DOD delete: Cam, lifters, block plugs. The computer will need to be retuned to shut off AFM permanently. I just want to know if New Jersey State Inspection will detect the tuning change to the ECM. Since the warranty has expired, I can do the full delete now or if there are inspection issues, just remain stock.
  11. Was going to do the DOD delete to my 6.2 Silverado when an acquaintance said it won't pass New Jersey inspection if I tune out the AFM. That is the only tuning change that will be made. Anybody else in New Jersey have this issue with inspections? I getting tired of the lifters failing. Finally out of warranty and it happened again. I have all the parts but now hesitant until I know I can proceed.
  12. I found this video and it worked for me. Tilting toward the passenger side. Maybe only with the 8L90
  13. 2015 Silverado 6.2 8 speed That part number does not seem correct. I had the same issue and changed the harness myself. I had purchased the harness on eBay using part number 24298757. This part number is the split harness, only the bottom half. You need this sensor, pan gasket24260071 and filter 24274402, all available on eBay or Amazon. You also need up to 8 quarts of MOBIL 124715(blue label) from Rock Auto or other retailers. Rock Auto seems cheaper. Several youtube videos on how to do it.
  14. I guess I got screwed on this. Last winter, i was getting the 700 and 711 codes but they went away and came back several times. Once the weather warmed up, the codes never came back. Fast forward to last month. Lifter started ticking so I took it in to the dealer. Asked them to check the temp and the A8 shudder. They fixed the ticking (bent push rod, 4 new lifters) but since no code was stored, no dice on the temp sensor. They then said the extended warranty would not cover the trans shutter, wanted $600 plus to flush. Ended up doing the sensor and fluid change myself. A little sloppy but not that bad. Sensor was only $65 or so.
  15. I just did this a couple of weeks ago. Dropped the pan, changed filter, and temp harness (intermittent CEL) and filled with the Mobil 1 fluid. You need to use the correct fluid. One of the posts said the dealer did it but used the AC Delco stuff. That might have been for a six speed but the 8 speed needs the special stuff. Had it at the dealer for engine lifter work. Also had the A8 shudder but they would not do the flush per TSB. Wanted to charge over $600 (400+ for flush, 100+ for trans flash). Did it myself for about $150. No shudder now.
  16. Lotsa videos on youtube on doing this yourself. I just did it last week. Changed filter, gasket and temp harness at the same time. Fluid seems to work. Rock Auto seems to have good prices for fluid. eBay for the filter/gasket/harness
  17. Every get an answer on this? Yes, that is the correct part number. I did this repair last week. I got mine on eBay for $66 265245535711 in case they charge too much. The codes came up last winter but not since and dealer wouldn't repair it. It is a straight forward swap and many videos on youtube. Get the correct fluid and filter it helps the shuddering problem.
  18. Have you gotten your answer on this? I just replaced my sensor and no programming was needed.
