  1. I am sorry, but I don't understand the connection from my comment to your question or the picture you posted.
  2. It was probably meant to be funny. I think you have created a unique look for your popular truck color. The important thing is that you are happy with the look. Are the rings reflective at night?
  3. Congratulations! It makes a difference when you own a vehicle that is paid off!
  4. Beautiful truck! I have the GMC version of this color and I never get tired of looking at it!
  5. If you are not comfortable with removing trim pieces, or not sure of how to fix the problem, I would take it to a gm dealer and pay to have it repaired. My coffee doesn't always hit the intended target but never interfered with the function of my truck! Is it possible this coffee spill and the timing of this malfunction are coincidental? If your truck is under warranty this may not cost you. If it is not, having a dealership look at it may save you long term.
  6. There is a measurable cost saving to the V6. However, the amount saved isn't significant when you prefer a V8. I prefer the V6 and the money saved is a bonus! Arguing over engine size is similar to debating cab and bed length configurations. Our preferences have different price tags!
  7. Nice find! I've been looking for a used Bronze Alloy canopy for awhile and finally ordered a new one! Pepperdust would be my first choice on a new truck!
  8. No blah, blah, blah but curious what the V6 isn't doing for you when it disappoints. I had the opposite experience from you as I had two salesmen try to talk me into the 5.3! I have no regrets choosing the V6 and I have not encountered a situation where I wished for more power!
  9. This looks like it will give you lots of protection. Do you encounter non-paved roads or is this more for bug protection? I remember driving the Alaska Highway in a new truck (before it was paved). It made my new truck look old really fast!
  10. Your numbers do not sound disappointing in my opinion. We all have different factors influencing our mileage and comparing with unknown people on the internet is not always helpful. I know there are ways I could improve my driving habits to get better results but I drive the way I like and get the best gas mileage (by far) of all my previous full-size pickups!
  11. My understanding is that "factory harness" that came with our trucks is for an aftermarket brake controller. Is there anybody reading this who has successfully installed an oem brake controller in a truck that didn't originally come with one?
  12. Memories! I remember driving a 57 Chev 1/2 ton with foot starter by the gas pedal. You needed to give it some gas while starting and your left foot was required on the brake or clutch! One thing I noticed with the key start on our trucks is that you do not need to keep holding the key until the engine starts. I treat it like a push button.
  13. I personally see no advantage to a push button start. It wouldn't upset me if my truck came with one but it would definitely have zero impact on my vehicle buying decision.
  14. I'm not sure if your question is directed at my earlier comment. If it is, I think the 0-60 or 0-85 on a 1/4 mile is a good comparison tool. I am sure the results would prove that a 2014+ gm truck with a 5.3 will have a faster time than a comparable truck with a 4.3. The difference will not translate to me feeling safer on the highway with a 5.3. I have driven or owned vehicles that were not suitable for highway driving but I cannot think of any current American stock pickup truck that I would feel unsafe driving on North American highways.
  15. I'm not clear on this point. O-60 or 0-85 times are a good measure for comparison purposes but not sure how these apply to safety on public roads when comparing the 5.3 to the 4.3. If the conclusion is the 5.3 is faster than the 4.3 then these times are significant. If this data is used to justify a safety preference between the two then these times are not significant.
  16. It compliments your red lettering and makes your truck stand out from all the other totally black trucks. I suggest leaving them this way for awhile and see how you feel in a couple of weeks.
  17. April Fools! Interesting thought about the 4 cyl mode. It would be great if you could manually switch this feature on and off.
  18. I sense by the lecture/font size I have upset you and for this I apologize. Judging by your references to 50's and 60's vehicles we may have similar experiences but have developed different jargon. I find that referring to a vehicle as a slug (especially mine) very negative. Your initial argument suggests that a truck like mine based on "objective" rationale is a slug. I am simply clarifying that the term slug as used here is even more applicable to a 397 hp Duramax. Maybe this is a term like "sick" which has positive and negative interpretations.
  19. Yes it isn't a new concept and it has limited value when comparing vehicles. My point was that drawing conclusions such as, "adding 840 pounds to any ride will make it a slug" is not reasonable based on this formula. I drive a CC 4X4 standard box with the 4.3 and I do not find it "sluggish" in any regard. However if this formula proves that it is rated as a slug then the Duramax CC according to this measure is even more of a slug!
  20. Interesting idea. This is one way to compare vehicles and has some merit. It doesn't work as a formula to define what makes a vehicle a slug but I don't doubt that a lighter regular cab will have more pep than a 4X4 crew. For fun I checked out this formula with a HD 4X4 crew Dmax and the weight is 19.1 lbs per horsepower! 2
  21. Your post is still alive and well! What is your impression of the 4.3 after after three months of ownership?
  22. It reads more like having fun to me than trash talk. I strive for the Grandpa look which usually earns me a few jabs on this forum! You are proud of your truck and undoubtedly receive compliments from your peer group!
  23. Yes the 4.3 has AFM. I can often predict when I may expect to see V4 light up but I can honestly say there is no feel or sound that indicates the change. My 09 Sierra had the 5.3 with AFM and it wasn't noticeable but I also didn't pay attention to it until reading concerns about AFM on this forum!
  24. I read what others have said but I am curious as to why you don't like your truck in V4 mode? You should only notice the change by the indicator in your DIC. Your truck has an abundant amount of power and it makes sense to reduce use when the need isn't there. I believe there is some stigma associated with running in V4 when we paid for a V8. I still feel the same way about driving a truck with an automatic transmission! If you're noticing any lack of responsiveness or power as a result of the technological advancement of AFM then your vehicle needs service, imo.
  25. That is hilarious! It is fun going back to read the other comments relating to the op's concern. Diagnosis over the internet can certainly lead you in the wrong direction! The solution to his issue may not be as simple as yours but your outcome demonstrates the need for him to take his vehicle in for service.
