I would have no trouble requesting such a ride along at my dealership. I encourage you to do this and be specific about the symptoms of your truck. Do not go in suspecting GM is behind a cover-up on their 8 spds as suggested earlier. Similar concerns can be found on this forum about previous transmissions with 4 and 6 spds. The 8 spds may be infamous among those united by problems but not to the general public. They are designed to (and will) work properly. There is a similar thread on this page and it took 6 months for the member to get his fixed. (It took two years for me to get the oil loss issue in my last truck repaired.) Keep notes about specific problems and be positive . Don't give up until it truly works as designed.

You may have found a number of people with similar concerns on this forum but it doesn't make this an infamous problem. The example of the shake is good and I'll add AFM issues. New Silverado/Sierra pickups at my local GM dealership range in price from in the $30K range to the $80K range. Price generally reflects more parts on the more expensive but does not indicate different quality for the same product. If your truck is not operating properly be persistent and document issues specific to your truck. If it is operating as intended according to your service adviser ask him/her to explain and perhaps demonstrate on another vehicle. I recommend that you do not use other people's issues to add support to your complaint. This will only serve to detract from the specific nature of your complaint and probably enhance an argument for the "normal" side.

There are a many of us who enjoy a nice looking truck like yours but we also appreciate seeing your face. As the weather improves I enjoy more trips on my motorcycle. Not being able to see the face behind the wheel puts motorcyclists in a most vulnerable position. If you've ever driven a motorcycle, you will have experienced the feeling of being "not seen" or invisible. The best chance we have for our safety is to see your face. We don't care how your hair looks, but we want to know that you see us and not looking elsewhere.

It is a nice use of space if you were like me and didn't place enough priority in finding a truck with a factory brake controller! Kudos to GM for not rubbing the knowledge of missing options in our faces. In the olden days, vehicles lacking options had obvious blanks or cover plugs/plates where knobs or features would go if you weren't so cheap! ;-)

My previous two GM's had cloth and thought I'd give "leather" a try. I too have a dog and was concerned about my decision. The factory leather wanna-be fabric is superior to cloth, imo, for dog owners. It is similar to the old HD vinyl interiors. - easy to clean and resistant to sharp little claws

I had pretty much given up on finding a decent portable vacuum until I stumbled upon the Milwaukee M18 compact vacuum. Unbelievable! It is on the heavy side for continuous hand-held operation but it is the "6.2" of all car vacuums. It is like the big V8 in the way that it has way more pickup power than most of us will ever need, but nice to have! I've owned the Milwaukee tool-box looking version for years and found it less portable than I wanted. Now I need to take my dog to the beach more often so I can use my latest power tool!

I agree. I am all for modifications that celebrate and enhance a truck but trying to make it look like another stock version doesn't make a lot of sense, imo. This reminds me of when I was purchasing my SLE. My wife asked our salesman if he had any Denali emblems. I asked her if she wanted to impress others? She said no, she simply prefers the name. The truth is, I may know one friend who could possibly identify the trim level of a GM truck without the badging. I could sport Denali badges (I don't) to make my wife happy and feel I saved $10k! If you chose and purchased a 1/2 ton, why try to make it look like a 3/4 ton?

I would stick to seeking a dealer repair rather than fixing myself. If you can easily replicate the problem while driving normally then maybe ask the dealer if you can test drive a similar vehicle to confirm the clunk is normal. I can sometimes get a clunk when I'm backing out of my driveway and putting it into D and stepping on the gas while still rolling backwards. It won't clunk if I stop the vehicle prior to switching gears. My wife's Toyota under the same conditions will hesitate but not clunk. I will report that it clunks before my warranty expires to see if anything abnormal is causing this particular clunk.

Now I get it! I thought you were talking about the plastic sill piece but you're referring to the metal part of the door sill! This thread makes more sense now!

I've used my rear window to increase carrying capacity but wouldn't buy a larger window for this purpose. When I was regularly carrying longer lengths I installed a headache rack. For good air circulation, I find the stock window more than adequate. The larger window looks cool but I personally see no advantage. This is one of those situations where size truly doesn't matter, imo!

Most of my power tools are red and I love the vacuum! I was hoping for an even smaller portable to keep in the truck. The Milwaukee portable is too handy for around the house to leave in the truck!

I think of this as protecting the protector. Would it not work something like step pads on running boards and just replace when worn? I imagine the sills can get pretty scuffed up depending on their use. I generally use my sidestep for my first step and the floor liner as my second. When getting out, I use the sidestep first and the ground second. I imagine the sill step concern is more for trucks without running boards.

This has to be the nicest interior update available! It is an upgrade that not only looks great but enhances the value of your truck more than the actual cost of the audio system, imo. Nicely done!

My main reason for asking this question is that I'm trying to find a portable vacuum that I can keep in the truck for on the road cleanups. My frequent travel companion doesn't always wipe her feet and sheds. I occasionally have to transport people without enough notice to lug my shop vac from the garage. My wife bought me a 12V portable that looked great but worked very poorly. I figured a mini vac powered by 110 may be a better choice. I have tried the "dust buster" rechargeable type of hand vacuum in the past but was not impressed. Maybe someone has a suggestion for a product they have found that is good for those impromptu cleanups!

My manual reads that the plug outlet on my dash is good for cell phones and mp3 players. Has anyone tried powering other things like small vacuums or power tools with this outlet? I've never used it and wondering what it is capable of powering without harm to device or vehicle.

Years ago I would have thought this was a gimmick like the Ford step system introduced years ago. I now have a Rubbermaid two-step product ready for use just inside my tailgate! If this new feature can't be used with a hitch attached, so what? I'm surprised people don't call GM "STOOPID" for trailers blocking the back-up camera's view.

I often wonder this same thing. I have read a lot on this topic and have been driving with AFM for the past 9 years. If it is creating an annoying ride then it needs repair not elimination. You can see when your truck switches to V4 but but I seriously questions the complaints about feel and sound. We should start embracing cylinder deactivation and start/stop technology because it isn't going away. I personally think it is brilliant to have cylinders operating when needed. No sense leaving the lights on in rooms you're not using!

Looks good. I like the non-slamming tailgate feature and I'm surprised this wasn't standard on all 14+ models.

I thought you gave a great explanation in your previous post! "So while backing into a space with your foot mostly on the pedal, easing yourself into the spot sort of feathering the brake pedal.....that will drain the vacuum in the booster."

I'm with Logan and Grumpy! This forum is a good read but don't base your truck buying decision on the complaints. 2014-2018 Silverados and Sierras are great trucks. Use due diligence as you would when buying any new or used vehicle.

I read an argument on this forum supporting the heat reducing qualities of front tinted windows. I agree with this reason. If the tint is impairing your vision, then it is too dark. Adding tint that reduces vision to protect you from being seen, or to beautify your truck is wrong. It is potentially unsafe for the driver and pedestrians. Most of us have taken a corner at least once and found ourselves surprised by an unexpected pedestrian. Add poor driver visibility and risks are increased. Extra lights aren't going to help your case if illegal tint is found at the accident.
