Best leveling coilovers/UCA with stock rims
corncob replied to TEXAG14Denali's topic in Modifications & Accessories
I would call Cognito about this. I'm not sure what you think is going to break, but I would be more concerned about leaving it and damaging the UCA on downtravel. I don't know if that is technically designed to be a travel limiter, as to my knowledge it's a service perch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Finally got her some new shoes - she had been on me for a few months to upgrade from stock. And because I'm a habitual hater of those that post pics with no specs (especially the first pics): 285/65r18 Cooper Discoverer STT Pros Mayhem Warrior 18x9 +18 King 2.5's @ 3" Cognito ball joint UCAs 3" readylift blocks in the back They definitely have a bit of a hum to them at 80mph, which I expected despite the "super quiet" claims. Nothing I won't drown out with the radio though. They are my first MT or at least hybrid MT, although I've had Duratracs and BFG ATs (non KO2) before. They do rub a bit on the liner at full turn - caught pretty good on the way home and bent the liner a tad. Nothing that a zip tie can't fix though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

There are pictures of the wires in that thread I just linked. I believe you could have installed the bilsteins without adjusting the sensors, but it would have been a rougher ride compared to if you would have adjusted them. But again, I don't think it's on your 2014. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Do any of you actually have a Denali, or are you just enjoying scaring the crap out of this guy? I'm fairly certain your 2014 doesn't have it - a quick Google shows that it was introduced in 2015. Even if you do have it, there are a lot of leveled and lifted Denali trucks running around. There is more detail in this thread. I didn't read it all in detail, but it looks like it's a matter of adding a small bracket to re-align the sensor. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/168618-leveling-kit-for-2015-sierra-denali-magnetic-ride/page-6 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

You're an angry, raging meathead, aren't you?!? I knew it! Take your steroids and get out of here [emoji23] But point taken. Plus, you never know when you might need to be your office's very own Terry Tate, right? [emoji1377] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Gotcha. I'm honestly more interested in how folks came to desire a lifted/leveled truck with larger tires, especially if they don't take it off-road (note: I'm not saying it's wrong at all). I lived in a city for 7 years, but I came from a rural background and grew up with a 90's Chevy with big BFGs, so even when I lived in a city I still wanted that for when I drove on dirt roads and in the snow 5-10 times a year. But I'm curious what drove others to get that over a sports car or an SUV or a stock truck. It might be anywhere from "it makes me feel like a badass" (to each their own, who can say that's wrong?) to "it's what I've always driven" to "my friend drove a big truck and I liked it" to "I don't want to feel like I'll get run over on the freeway". Please feel free to quote where I said that. Personally I would rather off-road in a crew cab truck if it had a 2.5 or 3" coilover setup rather than a 5-7" lift. You don't gain that much extra clearance and with the size/length/height of the truck you just become a bit more top heavy and expensive. So I've never really looked at the larger lifts and thought "oh man, he/she must/should go off-road a lot". So I can appreciate your argument, but you don't really have anything to convince me of. Obviously a nerve was hit. Chill man, I wasn't giving you a hard time. I'm just saying that a buying a z28 Camaro doesn't mean you're drag racing any more than buying a z71 silverado means you're rock crawling. I used to live in a city and my truck went off-road maybe 10 times a year. I still put on a leveling kit and larger AT's because I liked the look. But I wasn't that worried about quality of the kit relating to off-road performance because it was 95% for looks. Now I'm on horrible dirt/gravel roads every weekend, so my viewpoint is a bit different and I'm more concerned with some performance there. I do get what Surfarado means though. It is interesting that the big lift and off-road look is a big thing in cities, especially with trucks that may never touch non-pavement. I'm not saying it's wrong - do whatever the hell you want to with your money. Just interesting. It makes me think of the lifted Jeeps in Houston that were decked out in recovery gear, but were probably never going to go off the freeway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I had Nitto Terra Grappler G2's on my 2009 silverado for awhile. I will never use them again. Piss poor wet traction, horrible in ice/snow, and they looked crappy after the outsides wore away a little bit (despite proper inflation/balance/alignment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I'm not sure what you're asking? But changing control arms won't really allow you to stuff a larger tire. Some MIGHT allow you to fit a slightly wider one if you're having issues with a large positive offset and rubbing tires on the alum/stamped steel control arms. But only if the new control arm shape doesn't stick out quite as far where that rubbing occurs. You might need the new UCAs to take advantage of any extended travel you might have with the new height, if any. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

He hammered and ground the hell out of his fenders. It's in his comments on the YouTube video. "Take a grinder and big hammer to the back fender about 1" or less, and with the front you need a heat gun to move the molding or just cut the plastic" Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Best leveling coilovers/UCA with stock rims

They were running 35x12.5 Toyo MTs, if I remember right. And they rubbed on the UCA. He said 295/70r18s fit with their liners trimmed, but didn't say what brand. The only details were with the 35x12.5, which are actually ~34.5". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I'm sure he would. But I'm not interested in just finding out the knowledge. I'm interested in him clarifying their claims so people don't spend money on their system and then buy 35's with the assumption they will fit, and then be disappointed/mad/remorseful/mislead. Which is why I posted that request for info in that thread. I'm not implying he's trying to deceive. I just think clarity benefits everyone involved. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I've been following that thread and just posted asking the rep for some details on fitting the tires. Just saying "it fits 35's" only tells you 25% of what you need to know. It's very misleading, IMO, whether intentional or not. It's as helpful as finding a single YouTube video with a guy running 35's, but no way to tell what tire/offset/trimming he did. And that all matters HUGELY when you're trying to squeeze the biggest tire possible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

That thread is a completely different issue - the UCA contacting the frame tower/bucket/column above the UCA/frame bolt connection on extreme uptravel. It has nothing to do with cutting the service perch. On the issue in that linked thread, it started with a guy using fox 2.0's. spurshot did confirm that his had the same issue (but maybe not as severe) with his Kings. I haven't seen the problem show up at all on mine, even after traveling off-road. If it does, it's a very minor fix of putting some rubber on the frame column/tower, or cutting a very small bit of it away to fix it - because of this and the very limited reports of it, I haven't worried about it at all. And I haven't seen it manifest itself yet, despite a good amount of use. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

corncob replied to TEXAG14Denali's topic in Modifications & Accessories
I went very slowly on this side (you can see I left the tabs on the left and right) because I was worried about cutting into the actual frame bucket. I ground off most of them after that picture. The other side, I put the blade right between those tabs and the frame bucket and cut. If you are concerned about cutting too much off, cut a bit, then put the UCA in there and move it down. You won't have anything rubbing on that spot (it bolts in up above) so you really just need to make sure the arm clears when it goes down. If it doesn't clear or is too close for you, cut/grind a little more. I don't think you probably need to cut the whole width of it out to clear. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

There's some confusion that arises every time this issue of cutting the bump stops comes up. What the Cognito and maybe other UCA instructions say is to cut the service perch from underneath where the UCA attaches to the frame. This is not a bump stop. If you don't cut it out and put in coilovers with a bit longer travel than stock, it is my understanding that your UCA will contact that during travel instead of your coilovers being your limiting factor. It's the piece shown here underneath the left branch and bolt of the UCA. This is after the stock UCA is removed. And here is the cut job in progress. I cut it out with a reciprocating saw, then smoothed off the edges with a grinder. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Are those k02's? Truck looks great [emoji1360] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I ended up giving up and busting one of mine up really good with a pickle fork (was putting on new UCAs anyway). I've always broke themapart with a hammer on other trucks, but couldn't get this one to budge. I let it hang for an hour after hammering. Sprayed it with penetrating fluid. Cranked the wheel back and forth. Beat on it from every direction and every height (jacked the lca up and down at various heights) and never could get it to bust loose with a hammer. The passenger one came apart much easier. Not sure why this one was so much harder. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
