Seems like lifting the truck bed up could be a wiring nightmare between all the lights and towing package?? I have access to a lift. Also truck sets high enough a person could drop the tank without lift. But that is all from just looking, never have changed a fuel pump in truck when it was located in tank. Don't know why they came up with that bright idea, but I am old school.

Another dumb question wondered what this is?
Diverjer replied to Diverjer's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Thanks, that was what I was thinking it could be until I look at the back side and seen what looked like a motor. Still surprised that they don't cover up those wire connections better and that group of wires aren't up higher. I do driving on gravel roads and lately deep snow. -
Seen a wire hanging down and found the plug thing holding the wire harness in had slipped out. I pushed it back in, but it wasn't holding like it should, so I took a wire tie on it for extra support. The wire still hung down further that I thought good, but that must have been where it always was as the wore out plug thing was in the hole. Had a heck of a time getting my old butt back up on two feet. Anyway I was wondering what that unit so I took picture front and back, its located just about right under the driver door. Seems like there would be a cover of some sort with all those wire connections, but when looking around under there I founds several places similar with wire connections not covered. This is a 2014 Work Truck, has towing package as well as snowplow package. I do use the towing, but never hooked up snowplow. I sure had a hard time finding a two door bench seat truck.

Fans keep running after shutting off engine
Diverjer replied to Diverjer's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Nope not an OEM, came from Autozone (Durlast 207 Degree). I had some regret when I noticed it was plastic. Guess we will see how it goes. I know you are right, the OEM parts are just usually better, but even if I had done it myself I would have used after market- except I would have went to O'Reillys. -
Fans keep running after shutting off engine
Diverjer replied to Diverjer's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Had it checked out and the temp sensor was all that was bad. However since I had 86,000 miles on original thermostat, I had that changed out also. Truck is heating up faster, think thermostat may have also been opening too quick?? However the fan problem is a know problem for the sensor and I could have got by with just changing it. -
Fans keep running after shutting off engine

That sounds like a good suggestion, usually for whatever reason I would wait for 100,000 miles. Wonder if those fans would ever stop running, if I hadn't found that work around by starting up and quickly shutting off? I guess they would stop when battery went dead. That seems like a design problem, if key off electrical devices shouldn't be working. -

I should have said, I thought I be smart and leave the sensor unhooked and that would stop the fan thing, that idea didn't work. Fan still came on with sensor unhooked. -

Think you are right, I did take off the electrical connection and put back on to see if bad connection. That didn't help. During the move we really downsized, from a 24 X 24 work shed on 5 acres to nothing but a garage and small house in a HOA- not my idea. Got rid of lots of stuff and seems all deep well metric are gone, none of standard sockets seem to fit. I was thinking same thing, release the pressure before removing sensor. I may look around some more and find a socket? My dad was a mechanic for Koss construction and I had a lot of his tool I finely got rid of and I bet all my metric stuff somehow got in with them. -
Fans keep running after shutting off engine
Diverjer replied to Diverjer's topic in 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I watched they video and seems like what I have going on. My temp gauge also is staying down and not moving up. It was up until I starting hearing fans going and shutting off at home. I don't know if my old 77 year old body can get up there and change that, will have to give a look. The old lower back just don't like twisting around much. Thanks for the info. -

Thermostat has not been changed, but hoses are warm and blowing lots of hot air. Overflow is also a little warm. Water is circulating. Has 81,652 miles. There isn't any check engine light, haven't found my code reader, moved a couple months ago everything a mess. Would think check engine light would be on if any codes, but will try to find reader. -
Fans (both) keep running after shutting off engine even it this 35 degree weather. This just started when driving home, notice a new noise and both fans were running. All had been well and temp gauge was up normal and blowing warm air. Shut off truck when got in garage and pulled out key and both fans still going, five minutes later they were still going. Found out if I start truck up, fans will stop running just for a few seconds and if I turn off key in that few seconds they won't come on. Also noticed that temp gauge was sitting on cold as if not working. It should be showing heat as it was driven for 30 minutes. During start up heat gauge did do that thing of going all way up and then back down and stayed there on cold and fans start up. So I have to start engine up then fans will stop and then quickly turn off truck to get fans to stop. Any ideas, I would guess a heat sensor or something, but don't even know where one is located. This is a 2014 Silverado Work Truck, with 5.3 engine. Bench seat, 2 door with 8 foot bed.

Thanks, got to thinking that after awhile and tested using lower control arm. Didn't notice anymore movement than lifting on frame, maybe a hair more?? No movement at all if trying to shake tire around. Later when visiting with my mechanic friend he said- lift on lower control arm. From what I told him, he said nothing to worry about. Seems there are some configurations that you are suppose to lift from frame, I really don't know that for sure. That one post above was suppose to be 23 inches- not 243 inch handle.

I checked the tire pressure as they said on paper work, they put in 30 pounds, should be 35. It was really 35, just poor paper work. Also, said torque foot pounds 140 which I think is right, but think they are more? Can't loosen with my 4 way lug wrench, but have another in truck with long handle so I can get more pressure. I work out at gym, can lift 145 pounds without much difficulty. Should have stayed with my old tire guy. Yea, my special tire wrench that I put 2 handles together to make a 243inch handle breaks them loose. Got it off Amazon

78,000 miles on truck. I posted some video of my testing, best I could do with one person. Sure there will be some wear, but I don't believe enough to replace. Also, I have friend that if needed would do it for little of nothing. I am just not wanting to deal with doing it myself and don't have the tool I need anymore. Don't do as much as I use to, 76 years old and let someone else I know and trust and needs the work.

Got new tires today and Big O, they said I needed new lower ball joints and rear shocks leaking, I said no thanks. Bought home and tested, raised truck up on frame so wheel was off ground hanging. Took 2 foot bar and tried moving wheel up and down. There was a very small amount of moment on one side and tiny amount of noise. Same on other side, less moment and less noise. No tire wear on the old tires and no steering problems on highway. It seems to me a little movement is not an issue, I have no driving symptoms of anything wrong. Seems to me I been told a tiny amount of movement like that is not an issue? Will try to attach picture or links to my Youtube. They also said rear shocks were leaking and needed replaced, they seem just fine. Yes there is dust and dirt on bottom half of shocks from all gravel roads, so a small amount of fluid may have escaped and causes the dust to stick, but shocks have hardly any bounce, they are hard and they are overload heavy duty. Try to add pic of my test, hard to do by myself holding camera and lifting bar. Driver Side if you look really really close you can see small moment of lower and upper mount of lower ball joint. https://youtube.com/shorts/Ogmbsqx7pLs?feature=share Passenger Side here you may not even see the movement it is so small. https://youtube.com/shorts/V_LXoY-A0QI?feature=share I don't think I ever had a shock that didn't look a little like this (well unless it was new), they expect it to still look blue like top? It may be leaking a bit, but still strong! I hate tire stores that do this, should had stayed with my old standby store, but couldn't resist by 3 get 1 free.

Wind caught my door and something broke!
Diverjer replied to Diverjer's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Well I got new door check in and installed and picked up 5 pieces of trash rolling around in door that was driving me nuts. Really the stuff rolling around is the only reason I put new door check on. All back together and took off and still stuff rolling around in door!! Take things apart again and there were 3 little ball bearings in there found with magnet. Now all is quite, nothing rolling around. -

The video I seen that said there was a 7 mm bolt in that panel that I circled in blue, I didn't see any bolt. However the video panel looked a lot different and on top of it was multiple buttons for windows etc and was longer, my WT has none of those window buttons. So that is mostly likely why no bolt head was back there. -

Diverjer replied to Diverjer's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Thanks for the information, door check, that is a good name. Mostly likely it did it's job even though it broke. Gave me a moment to catch it myself. It was kind of hard to close, and that was most likely when door check part got pushed in. Nothing looks bent on door and open and closes fine. I use to have a tool like this, but long time since I used it, hard to tell where it went. EDIT Found it, now if I remember got to get that c clamp turned just right so the tool pushes just the right spot to spread it apart. Then to put back on just slide c clamp on handle and push on. Hopefully tool right size? -
Well I did a dumb ass thing. It was really windy today and as I got out of truck a real hard blast of wind came up and blew the door open and something broke. Not sure what you call it, but circled it in red. It is flopping around where it goes into the door unlike the other side. What broke off, fell inside of the door panel. Door works fine, opening and closing. What bugs me most is what ever broke off is in the door panel and rolls around when you brake or accelerate. Drives you nuts after awhile. Any instructions how to get the panel off this work truck? Seen some for panels without a manual window handle, think I need a special tool to get a clip off that handle? About got it off except for that handle, so put all back together and just listen to whatever it is roll around. Also when I took the piece in blue off there was not a 7MM bold as one video I found and that piece did not look the same inside or outside as the video I found. I tried to do pictures to show what I got. Maybe I should just take to a shop, would this be a mechanic or body shop? I getting too old to mess with this! That & in picture is suppose to be a 7, also can't type it seems.

Well it's looking good now, I found some rubber plugs at hardware store, that fit, but then came out pretty easy. So I got some 100 percent silicon for indoor/outdoor and put on lip that will stick to sheet metal. There was still one original plug, I posted a couple pictures below, it has a small grove you can't see very well that held in place by sheet metal its a small cut in grove around plug. Picture don't show well.
