  1. I was kind of wondering if my radio issue might be one of these blocks. I notice the one you wired tied still has the red lock that suppose to hold things down, still must not have been enough. I notice like mine that back block has lost the red lock. I thought about wire tying the back one, but it seem tight. Maybe the back ones never came with a lock tab like that front one?
  2. I guess this must have been a stupid question, sorry posted such a long one. Maybe I will pull radio and reset all the connectors on the back. Will wait until gets above freezing so don't break some of those thin plastic trim around radio. Got to find my tool for removing that trim.
  3. Sometimes when I start my truck the radio will make a loud static for about a second and then stop. This has only happen maybe 6 times in 3 years, so I don’t bother trying to figure it out. Other than the noise, nothing else is affected. Once it made a strange noise and radio started playing music and lost the time. Also, it put a setting back to Audible Touch Feedback on, then whenever I adjust fan on heater/AC it chimes (maybe Audible Touch Feedback is a factory default, might all be back to factory settings and that is the only one I notice). I went and turned off the Audible Touch Feedback and set the time- that was at least a year ago. I should mention I never listen to radio, it has display on of a station and is muted, I can see songs that are playing, time and temp show up in upper right corner, but no sound. If I could I would only have the clock showing, but that isn’t possible. When I hold button and only clock shows up it stays that way until I start truck up next time, then goes to radio on and mute. Today driving down road I heard a noise, thought I hit something in road like rock threw up under fender or something. Next thing I know the radio is playing, time is changed to 12 o’clock and if I adjust the fan it chimes once again. So Audible Touch Feedback setting went back to on. I should note that the preset stations are not lost. Now after all that, has anyone experienced something like this or know what could cause this to happen? Now I have set things back to like I normally have them, radio on with sound muted and time and temp in upper right corner. I am sure someday it will do this weird thing of noise again, radio sound will come on, clock will reset and Audible Touch Feedback back to on. Today I did pull out and push back in the radio fuse. Still wonder if a radio issue or something else that affects the radio, because I don't lose preset stations, but lose time and at least one setting of the Audible Touch Feedback goes from off to on. Yet at the same time the radio does come off mute and start playing. This is on a 2014 Silverado 1500 work truck with 5.3. This is old style, bench seat 2 doors, no power windows or mirrors. Also, there is no bluetooth or anything like that via the radio and is not touch screen.
  4. Parts guy at Chevrolet said he was talking to sales rep and asked about plastic cluster replacement cover part. Sales rep told him for something like that you have to call the back office (whatever that is I don't know). However, calling the "back office" got the part for $51.00 and now it's installed. It was nice of the parts guy to check up on it, I wasn't bugging him or anything, guess it just came up in a conversation.
  5. Thanks, an old farmer friend of mine use to come down and want me to get one of my horses and help him gather up some cattle. He was old style, had lots of cattle around the Flint Hills and only used horses for working livestock. Other folks used ATVs. Back then I burned a lot of wood and he seen my buzz saw blade I ran off front of tractor. Said if I didn't do something about that crack in blade, I was going to get hurt. Had me drill a divot at end of crack until I got a new blade.
  6. I think that sounds like a plan, unless one fall from the sky, leave it alone.
  7. I don't know about the other models, but that is a trip, shows avg MPG, transmission temp, engine oil life in percentage since oil change, hours engine has ran. I don't know if other models show this in a different way or not. You turn the knob clockwise for the different readouts and press it in to reset the readout (well can't reset engine hours or trans temp). I will keep looking for a cover, maybe my fix will last. Besides it doesn't keep the truck from getting the job done. But if they were available, I think it is an easy fix. I am just a little OCD on keeping stuff up.
  8. Thanks, I been looking at salvage yards and haven't found one yet. Kind of wonder if the work truck has a different cluster without some bells? It was hard for me to find this 2 door 8 foot bed WT, thinking maybe the cluster is different?
  9. While cleaning instrument cover, I must have broke the plastic cover, I don't know how, sure didn't press hard. Anyway tried dealer to get a plastic cluster replacement cover and he tried GM and some of the other places that are after market dealers and couldn't find a plastic instrument cover for my truck. All of them said I had to buy the whole new cluster. This guy at dealer has always been good and tries to find parts from other places. If it is like I think, that plastic cover comes off and it isn't that hard to replace Truck is a 2014 Silverado work truck, 2 door, 8 foot bed, 4X4..........Nothing fancy no power window, mirror and vinyl floor mats- and that is the way I wanted it. Hard to find a truck like that. I did take a hot pick, heat it up, and made a hole at end of each crack, don't know if it works on plastic, but works on metal buzz saw blades when I use to cut wood. It would stop the crack from getting bigger. Anyway can anyone point me to a place that may have a plastic lens for instrument cluster?
  10. I also received a letter today from GM. They said if this condition occurs on your 2014 Chevrolet Silverado within 10 years or 150,000 miles which ever occurs first the condition will be repaired at no cost. I am thinking this is more of a problem than they think or want to admit. Maybe I need to go in and tell them this thing isn't stopping at slow speeds, darn near went through the Kwik Shop store front window.
  11. Thanks, as long as I know that is the way it works, I will be able to deal with it . I just wanted to make sure I was missing a setting somewhere. Been through all settings, but thought I might have missed something. If I have it on mute, it comes back on when started as mute, just have to look a little more to see the time. Like to be on time when making a delivery, my 72 year old eyes aren't what they use to be. Doesn't have bluetooth in radio for calls, so not a problem there. If I wanted to make calls I could get another radio put in or they make some bluetooth adapters that will pair with phone that fit on visor.
  12. The radio comes on whenever I start truck. I rarely listen to radio, could live without it just fine. Anyway when driving around, I just have the clock showing. When I start truck, the radio is on, but muted on the last FM station I used, prior to muting and holding until radio powers off and just shows clock. While this is not a big pain, would be nice if when starting, it went back to same status as when I shut off- just clock.
  13. Yes, dealership checked it out and kept it several days while a part was ordered and put on. When I picked it up, nobody that was there knew what part was put on, manager was gone. Next time I am there I will ask, but so far it has not thrown anymore codes.
  14. Yes I got the P0172 P0175 and haven't had the truck 24 hours. It has 49,500 miles on the 5.3.
