Auto is Auto, 4WD is separate but 4WD can engage on its own while the truck is in Auto. We drove 2WD 99.9% of the time. Something must be spinning in that assembly or else it would not blow apart. The dealer says it “grenaded” itself. Well how does that happen in 2WD? You got me.

The issues were the front differential multiple times which was rebuilt once and replaced with a “new” one twice. The differential blew out to the point where the axle was not engaged properly from what I could tell. All I know is it was un-Drivable at that point and we had to pull over. Most of these issues occurred while we were not towing anything.

I bought a 2020 GMC 2500HD AT4 as soon as they were generally available in September 2019 and immediately had several issues including an off-center steering wheel, squealing brakes and other annoyances like a bad coolant sensor (That rusted apparently in coolant because of poor design), DEF sensors and ended up with three front-differential replacements. THREE. They all “grenaded”. This is an AT4 that had barely any Offroad time much less, ever in 4WD. I have 17 cases open with GM. SEVENTEEN, guys. I got nothing from them but a barely useful “extended” warranty. Then last week the truck left us stranded on the side of the road again, a mile from home. Enough. I have been looking for a replacement for a while but no one has inventory of 2500’s or 3500’s. I had it towed to the nearest dealer, OnStar did not cover the warranty I had to buy their app to get that “service” even though I was “gifted” this extended warranty because of the other issues. The truck had 40k miles on it. The dealer they towed it to just had a 2024 3500HD Dually which was ordered and not accepted by the guy who placed the order. It had 4 miles on it. I said trade me NOW, I cannot deal with this anymore. How could two trucks have major issues 4 years apart? I went for it. Got the truck at MSRP and lost 14k on my trade in because it was a busted piece of trash when it was delivered to the dealer on a tow truck. Not great. Not great at all. GM said well, maybe we will call you in 4-5 days. I got the new dually, beautiful truck right? Wrong. 170 miles on the truck, most of that from the dealer to my house and back, to get paint protection installed (which they screwed up the first time) and other little things done. I was planning to take my first road trip this weekend and I started the vehicle as I was loading it. A weird, loud fluttering noise came from underneath!!! I looked for a bag in the fan blades and that wasnt it. I tried to drive it to the dealer to see what it was and it would not shift gears from 1, to 2 to 3 and so on. Transmission took a dump. I called OnStar and towed it away. Maybe 4 weeks to get it back, brand new, broken transmission. So I ask, what in the name of god is going on at GM? I have no choice but to go legal now. I was patient but this is insanity. I have a 5th wheel stuck in another state AGAIN because of a GM product. Ford probably isnt much better but here we are. What am I supposed to do? HELP.

My dealer is Findlay but that doesn’t matter too much because the issue is GM Corporate. They declined to cover it.

I submitted the repair request (My 3rd one I think, maybe 4th now) and GM said sorry I am now out of warranty and refused to cover it with the dealer. Mind you, they have already replaced my brakes MULTIPLE times under warranty following each TSB and update and it did not solve the issue. This new find is the last chance and they say, sorry, we know your brakes are still 98% but we are not covering it. I have had enough of GM. First my Front Differential blows up TWO times and brakes have multiple fixes and still suck and I am told to just deal with it? I don’t think so bozos. I would urge you to read my post above.

Thanks @Dwayne Pierce . Is there a new TSB # I can share with my dealer? They seem like they are not interested in looking anything up.

GM has told me since they replaced my brakes twice now and it is squealing again, they will NOT fix it again.

My brakes still squeal like a dump truck and this is the second brake replacement! I am taking it back in but they dont want to schedule me. I am nearly out of warranty, gee I wonder why I cannot get an appointment…

With a lot of headwinds out West I tend to get only 5-7 MPG if I am lucky. It’s sucks having only a 36 gallon tank. In perfect, level conditions I might get 10 MPG with my 36’ 5th wheel.

I am on my second set of dealer-replaced brakes and they are squealing again. They were only down to 97-98% before they started AGAIN. So frustrating, under warranty, getting replacements and it is the same problem since I bought the truck 3 years ago! 2020 GMC 2500HD

Same with me. We will see if this time fixes anything.

I escalated this issue to GM and they have done nothing in two months time saying this is something they are investigating. Ok, I am not a brake designer but…I bet Midas can figure this out in about an hour. GM? Hello GM? My brakes have been replaced already and they went from bad to even worse. How difficult is it to diagnose why brakes squeal and make an $80k truck sound like a dump truck?

I have been to a GMC dealer before and they were the ones who replaced the brakes initially, at 4K miles or so.

Bump for updates. GM made the dealer take another look at my truck, still squealing badly and is an embarrassment to drive. The dealer got back to me today and said sorry, there is no fix and we made no changes. Maybe I can get GM to buy a used truck.

Any updates? My Chevrolet dealer said your truck is a GMC maybe their dealer has a fix, take it there! We are done trying. Can you believe that nonsense? I called GM corporate. I’m ticked.

There is also another post on this forum for dead battery and it was caused by a bad part under the hood. There is a bulletin or recall for it. I don’t have the link anymore but I found it here.

It seems to me the GMC Brake guys are the same ones who designed this camera system as well. That is a shame because I am about to purchase the same camera for my new hauler.

My “dump truck” is worse now than when they did the TSB brake pad replacement! I took it back to them and they told me, there is no fix apparently and I get to live with it until GM comes up with something else to try. I am over 12k now, none of it was hauling a trailer but I am about to put a 36’ toy hauler on it so here we go...Thanks GM.

The steering wheel has a cant to it so it isn’t installed straight or something. Are yours straight?

They replaced my truck’s brakes because since we bought it in Sept 2019 (It’s a 2020 2500HD), it has squealed coming to stops. Well now it sounds like a DUMP TRUCK when coming to a stop. I took it back in and they said sorry, no fix no change so just live with it now.

Another thing with this truck...mine is never accurate. They did the update a few months back. I feel like I bought a beta tester vehicle.
