  1. Tired of the wired cable for CarPlay. So, I have started down the road of wireless dongle. I have purchased a Carlink Mini SE Pro and its works well once you understand its design. With the cable, when plugged in, CarPlay app ikon comes up green and you select it, and it works. If you go to settings and then Phone app ikon, you see that the infotainment system sees the phone is plugged in by cable and disconnects phone from list of phones actively connected to phone app on infotainment screen. I hope I am not confusing here. When you connect the Carlink dongle, the infotainment system does not disconnect phone from app and then you now have the dongle and phone connected to infotainment systems phone app. This is where the problems come up. The infotainment system has no idea what to do when a phone call comes in. No way to answer because it doesn`t know whether to use dongle or your phone listed in links of devices in phone app list. So, you cannot answer any incoming calls. You can call out though through CarPlay. So, when using the dongle, you must go into the phone app and disconnect the phone so infotainment system will use the dongle. You do this once the dongle is active and connected to infotainment system and phone and you have Carplay highlighted green. From my week of playing around with this dongle, I have had no other issues with infotainment system. I can bounce back and for between CarPlay and infotainment system apps which I use. Now instead of using trucks infotainment system phone app, all calls are now handled by CarPlay when using dongle. One of the reasons for the Carlink dongle was that it does GPS pass through which allows CarPlay to use trucks GPS signal instead of phones. Now phone can be put anywhere in truck as long as the Wi-Fi signal to dongle is not degraded. I hope others out there will comment with their experiences and maybe we can find the best dongle that mimics the cable connection exactly with GPS pass through. Looking to find a dongle that is truly plug and play, not one that is plug, then disconnect phone to use without issues. I suspect there nothing out there but maybe manufactures will read this post and fix this issue for 2019 to 20121 GMC vehicles.
  2. As soon as my trucks infotainment system was updated to software V810, I received a new app download named GMC Map+ . Tried it out and had all sorts of issues with audio when using the app with iHeart radio app. Constant start and stop of sound like system has a memory leak or just plain old out of memory. Biggest issue was when I stopped for gas on a long trip. First, I stopped truck and opened door. While fueling I left door open and key in ignition. It was a warm day in October. As soon as I finished fueling and got into truck the issues started. Got seat belt on and started truck. Infotainment system went Bug "hit. First off, my music now was playing a FM radio channel that did not exist and was nothing but static. It was playing on top of IHeart radio app. Next I noticed that there was a gps symbol with the red line through it meaning no gps. Also noticed the temp display was gone. To fix audio I finally switched to FM and back to iHeart and that dropped the FM band out and left iHeart. Stopped truck and got out and locked door for 5 minutes to see if other issues would clear. Nope still no gps and temp. iHeart continued to break up. So continued to drive. Next day when I started truck everything was ok. That did not last long. Same problem again when I fueled up. Door open again. Then last fueling I closed the door and removed key and this time problem did not return. One thing though, iHeart sound still broke up. It always break up when using the GMC Maps+ app. Now home I removed the GMC Map+ app and went back to the older NAV app and no problems. V810 software updated works great. The GMC Map+ app sucks so be aware. I suspect that this app is a memory hog. It is 50megs of crap to load and who knows what its ram requirements are. It's the largest user of memory by more that 50%. GMC, I hope you read this because this app really bites the big one. Maybe it works in Gen3 trucks, but not mine.
  3. Latest updates done on my 2020 GMC Canyon Denali. Any information or a link to what's in these latest updates. So far other than app issue reported earlier, infotainment has functioned well without a hiccup. Cannot find a TSB for V810 update. The other 2 would be nice to know what they addressed and or added. I did see a hill decent message on center display screen which I have never experienced prior. Anyway more info on these updates would be nice.
  4. Looks like GMC has created another bug for the infotainment system. About a month ago I started to have issues with the audio on the display. No radio or sound. Press audio and nothing happened. Tried all sorts of things, but no go. Took to dealer and showed them the issue. When logged into system using guest, everything functioned correctly. When I logged into my user account, audio did not work. Dealer was puzzled too, so left truck and they went to work trying to figure it out. What they were able to do was update to v810 and added a couple of other updates too. This did note fix issue and dealer did not have an answer. Tech did think there must be a hidden setting out there that we could not find. Next day after thinking about the issue, I remember the myGMC app had a major update around the 1st of June and that's when all the bazar issues started. Solution was in the app. The app has a bug in the "MEDIA" tab. When selected you have a choice off adding apps or favorites with your xm, fm, and am radio setting. I found mine with a whole lot of fm band stations set as favorites. I never set those up and only had one station saved on fm on infotainment system in the truck. I deleted all saved entries on app until it came back with a screen the said " you have 0-40 favorites available ". This screen also blocked access to xm and am selections so there is no way to look at the settings without adding a favorite to the selection screen. Went to bed and got up in the morning to do some shopping. Started truck and logged into my user account and low and behold, audio now work. Also found that I could not add app from infotainment screen in truck, but I could from myGMC when I used the media tab. Looks like to me the "Media" tab in the app is broken. Showed dealer and they were baffled too. This happened on a Apple iPhone with the latest ios update from earlier this week. I suspect all the mychevy, mybuick as well as the myGMC will have this issue.
  5. I installed GTR Lighting product, and they are fantastic. Great light output at night and thats what needed to se those pesky deer trying to be the first across the road. Recommend the GEN 5 wiring harnesses as well. Nice to have 6 led lights on when going down a dark road. It looks like day light.
  6. Known problem. I would go to dealer and have them update to v807. Will not happen over the air. Also make sure your battery connection are tight. This can cause problems when starting vehicle. The Infotainment systems boot gets interrupted and strange things happen. There is a class -action out on this problem. Make sure you have the latest On-Star up date in the online update section on your truck. This does fix some of the issues. From my experience the loose battery connection/crappy battery, On-star update installed and the v807 update must be done to have any change solving your issues. On-Star update is an over the air update.
  7. You will have to go to dealer to get update. I asked when I had my free oil change if this update was going to happen over the air, and the service tech had no clue. I had them update nav with the 807 update. The only over air update I have ever received was an On-Star update on my 2020 Canyon Denali. I don`t see the over the air network updates system ever being what it is advertised to do. Update did not do any harm to Infotainment system and I have only had one strange event since update.
  8. I am 6'2" and in my 2020 Canyon Denali I have plenty of room. The only thing I can see that could be better is the steering wheel does not lift up enough for me after adjusting the front seat position. Headroom is fine. Even the crewcab backseat has decent room if the front seats are not all the way back. For kids and smaller short legged individuals the back is good. I do wish GM would step up into the modern times and give both front seats the same seat adjustment features and also add a memory settings for different riders and drivers for the seats. Other than that, when I do my run across the mountain west for 9 hours at a time, I am not all crippled up after the drive like I was with my 96 Yukon. Very comfortable for long drives for the driver.
  9. So your saying owners can modify the OEM switch. Show us how without pulling fuses , pulling brake wires, etc and not permanently damaging switch and voiding warranty. My experience with GMC/Chevy DRL mods will require a relay to make this work. Older "96" vehicle had a rectifier your could pull and then add relay to circuit. We would love to see instructions on how to do this.
  10. So it`s May now and I have a few questions. 1. Do you still have both the throttle body upgrade and pedal modification installed. 2. Do the modifications void factory warranty. 3. Did you see improvements in performance that would justify the upgrades. 4. What effects did you have on overall fuel economy Looks like a good upgrade, but I do have these questions. Time always gives best results so curious if you still use and like upgrades. Also have you upgraded the exhaust as well and possibly added a CAI intake.
  11. I really like HID bulbs. One thing that makes them great is if the headlight uses a Bi-Xenon assembly. Means projector has a built in target that flips up or down depending on if you want low beam or high beam. If yours are factory, I suspect it is the Bi-xenon. If aftermarket might not be this type so bulb is used for low beam and another type of bulb for high beam. My "96" Yukon was retrofitted to use HID bulbs and I also modified the wiring with a relay to keep low beams on when I wanted to used high beams. Now that was some light. If you like your HID bulbs and they are factory, you might want to look at Morimoto HID bulbs and pick color that you like. I used the 4500k bulbs and they were great driving down pitch black roads at night. Could see even rodents in the ditches with that color. With the Canyon and Colorado, the fog light socket retainers are vertical. Most aftermarket led are clocked to be installed with horizontal retainers. If you cannot loosen a set screw and rotate the position of the led`s then beam pattern with not be correct with a lot of the aftermarket led`s. The GTR Lighting Ultra2 allow you to adjust led so they are in the correct orientation in the fog light housing. As for changing you headlights from HID to led, I would not if they are Bi-Xenon lights. I would look at maybe changing bulbs to get a better color and generally aftermarket bulbs from Morimoto and others are better. If you really want led`s, then the only choice for me would be GTR Lighting Ultra 2 all the way around. Plan on $650 when not on sale. I got mine on sale, but still puckered parting with all that cash. Would I do it again, YES. My lights are what they should have been from factory for what I paid for truck. Also go to Gen5DIY and look at the harnesses they have for bypassing DRL and allowing fog lights and high beams to be on at the same time. That is a great feature and well worth the upgrade. After all my updates to my Canyon Denali, the critters stand out like it was still middle of day. Deer in the headlights become real. They really light up with my Ultra 2`s. From reading the MF act, these will not mess up warranty.
  12. LED headlights purchases can be tricky. Not all LED bulbs are the same. I have installed the GTRLighting Ultra 2 leds because they can be clocked so the light output is perfect/bulb properly aligned in housing, and the need to mess with the headlight housing adjustment is not needed. If you did not have issues before bulb change, then you will not after you install the GTR Ultra2 bulbs. The GTRLighting Ultra 2 fit properly and the dust cover has no issues with clearance on a GMC Canyon. I am not sure the Colorado uses them same covers, but if the Colorado uses the same light assemblies as the Canyon Denali, you will not have an issue with using the dust covers with the Ultra2 led`s www.gtrlighting.com There is a review of these bulbs on headlight revolution. These really are the best out there, imo. You wallet is going to be empty when finished, but you will be able to see. For me halogens just do not cut it. Either install a HID system such as Morimoto or the GTRLighting Ultra 2 led`s. I see that Morimoto has their new updated led bulb now available. Looking forward to comparison reviews. I use the original Morimoto led lights on my VW Tiguan for fog lights and they work well. I suspect the new version will be even better. Another option I just installed was a product from Gen5DIY. They have some well made harnesses which can bypass DRL during the day and the last one I just installed was to allow fog lights and highbeams to be on at the same time. With my GTR Ultra2 leds, the sky lights up from front grill and beyond. Well worth the upgrade. www.gen5diy.com Now if only GMC will admit they have some work to do on the infotainment system and fix the issues many of us out there have experienced.
  13. I added the skid plates under the truck. Transfer case and the engine/transmission piece. I also kept the original piece that the front plate would replace. I modified the holes in the new transmission/engine plate so I could continue to use the original front plastic protector. Mud flaps all around. GMC part looks and fits the best. GMC floor mats also. Better value that Weather Tec imo Added Amp Research power steps. Toss the factory crap and replace with this pricey option. Wife could not get into truck with factory crap. I love these things. Next year they are offering a new setup that interfaces with cellphone. These work great so I am happy. I added a Truxedo tonneau cover. Works great and keeps bed and contents dry. I see you got rid of the poor headlight bulbs. I replaced mine with the GTR Lighting Ultra 2 bulbs and now I can see at night. Got a DRL modification harness from Gen5DIY. Now the DRL`s are off in the middle of the day without touching switch. Waiting for next harness upgrade that will allow fog lights to stay on when highbeams are on. That will be nice too. Had some sort of paint and interior treatment from dealer. Not sure that has been worth the $$$. Water beads up, but agriculture dust is still there when car dries after rain. Replaced air filter with AEM 28-50030 Dry Flow Air Filter. Could not justify a CAI setup. I live in state that requires California CARB certifications. Also getting a 2 hp increase doesn't make sense. This flows well and is a dry cleanable filter. Does give the truck a slight growl when you get into it. I suspect I am getting some hp increase with this low restriction filter. Maybe some MPG. Now I am waiting for GMC to admit they have issue with the infotainment system and hope they fix issues soon. Making a list to give to dealer when I take it in for free first oil change. Make sure if you are changing oil, to only use a dexos certified oil. Also with direct injection, oil needs to also have a low nooak rating. After free oil change, the next one will be when I start doing them and will use Ravenol DXG 5-30wt. Low evap rating and GMC approved. I use Ravenol in the VW and would not use anything else. Also for the cold shifting 1-2 issue you might have observed in the mornings, I generally start truck, let warm up a little and then put truck in reverse for about 10 secs, then drive for about 10 secs, reverse again for 10 secs and then back to drive. This seems to help with cold start shifting. I suspect I am getting rid of air and filling the clutch.. Updates in future will probably be BORLA exhaust if I win the lottery.
  14. So here is what I know about the transmission issue. Supposedly beginning in 2020 they switched transmission fluid to solve issue with fluid sucking up moisture. Original fluid would act like brake fluid. This would cause issue with corrosion in TC and clutch slippage. My 2020 was starting to look like it too was going to have the same problem, but what I have being doing the last week is taking the pups for 2-3 hours drives on freeway, mountain roads and overall constant runs without stopping for 30 minutes minimum. I took my time and care when breaking in the engine for the first 1000 miles, but that does not help the tranny learn what it needs to know. Now that I have 1600 miles on the truck I am taking these long runs to allow the control system to learn about the drive train. Results have been mpg`s running in the 17-19 now running around 25 mpg. I am getting around 25.5 at 75mph on the freeway. Transmission has been learning as well. Downshift from 3-1, 2-1 are now smooth as silk. If roughness comes back, I will go to dealer and have the perform the C-1 clutch relearn. I am attaching bulletin on this. So when dealer says the transmission needs to learn how you drive, on a new truck there is truth to this, but just do what they recommend and make sure you take long very mixed condition runs and give the tranny time to learn. On trucks with more miles and you have had the oil issue addressed and possibly the TC changed, make sure to bring up the service bulletin. I attached it because frankly, not all dealers do their homework and miss this bulletin. Other than the Infotainment glitches, that GMC says only happens on 7" screen systems, My Denali has been performing as expected. MC-10169298-9999.pdf
  15. I do not like the DLR`s either. Here is a solution for the issue from Gen5DIY. I should of got the cable with the LED turn signal mod as well. Will modify my cable when it warms up again so I can use that feature. Once that was done I changed the 1990`s headlight bulb solution to GTR Lighting Ultra 2.0 LED lights. Best LED solution out the and I have not been flashed by on coming drivers https://www.gen5diy.com/collections/15-17-canyon-p-p-harnesses/products/15-18-canyon-drl-relocate-stock-led-bulbs
