New Chevy Guy

I recently bought a 17 Silverado and just found out about bed lights. My cargo light isn't working, so would that prevent the bed from working? Gonna test bulbs in cargo first, then fuse to see if I can fix it, then troubleshoot bed. My driver side bed light has a pigtail with a plug on it hanging out into the bed. Is that normal or is something unhooked? Thanks for anyone's help!!
