  1. Engine number is on the right front block deck just in front of the head but you shouldn't need that to get parts, Small block Chevy parts are fairly universal, Pull the oil drain plug and see how much coolant comes out before the oil. Does the oil look like chocolate milk? Brand new Targetmaster GM engines used to be much less expensive than a rebuilt but it has been years since I bought 1. They come with new oil pan and valve covers
  2. I think KARNUT got it right, here in the northeast it's common for stations to have lower prices for cash or customer loyalty programs, Speedway and others is cheaper for debit card purchases than cash or credit
  3. Welcome to the Forum! I would determine which cylinder is leaking before tear down then pull it apart If the gasket failure is not apparent then have the head checked by an automotive machine shop and check the cylinder wall for hair line crack, Is there coolant in the oil? Coolant on the bearings is not good so if it ran for any length of time with coolant in the crankcase a crate motor may be the way to go, That said it is a very easy engine to work on but 35 years of New England winters there"s bound to be corrosion issues with the exhaust bolts, oil pan and bolts etc. Is it a real 2500 (8 lug) or 6 lug? How many miles? Where in Mass? Intake gasket failure is a much more common failure that leaks coolant into the crank case. I had an 88 with typical problems for a 300k mile truck , Loved the truck. Check the price on a new GM engine before buying a rebuilt
  4. You will need 1/2" hose, Probably will have to use hydraulic hose or a barrier hose. I hope you used power steering hose on the trans lines, Fuel line will swell up and burst. Usually the hoses are ok, just remove the crimps and double clamp the ends
  5. In my job driving a high-way assistance truck I have run into a number of Acadias and Equinox vehicles that the lines have come apart, Haven't seen any pickups though, I replaced the lines on my 98 twice due to rust, the new 1s didn't take long to start seeping so if the lines are in good shape and the leak gets worse I would grind the crimps off and do the repair
  6. Don't know, I was trying to make out the insignia on the hubcap but have old age eyes
  7. I like the truck, 5 window cab
  8. Possibly a piece of debris got into the lock cylinder, if you have access to compressed air try blowing it out followed by a squirt of WD40, if that doesn't work you will have to replace the lock cylinder. You may be able to look into the lock to see if theres anything in there and fish it out also
  9. Welcome to the forum! It could be just the cold weather we are experiencing. How many miles on the truck?. If your scanner does live data look at the temp sensors both intake air and coolant to make sure they are accurate and the tstat is functioning properly. They can fail without setting a code
  10. Friday night we got a fast 3-4 inches of snow at rush hour, unbelievable the number of cars that didn't have enough traction due to what I assume to be bad tires. It caused total gridlock. We have annual inspections with emissions, before emissions they were twice a year
  11. Welcome to the forum! Rack and pinion or Ackerman steering? Pulling when hitting the brakes may be a bad brake hose or caliper. It's possible 1 of the brake hoses got twisted remounting a caliper also. Where it started after you did the work I would double check EVERYTHING in the front end. Did you have it aligned?
  12. My friend built a temporary garage similar to that using tractor trailer trailers, Where it was on wheels he figured he didn't need a building permit but the building inspector disagreed and made him disassemble it
  13. Broken shift forks in the transfer case
  14. It's a good idea to check it once a week unless there is a low level sensor, Most folks are too lazy to bother, myself included, the Caddy leaks oil but has a sensor so about the time it says check the oil the second time I just change it, The truck uses a quart between changes but gets checked once in a while. Again a vehicle that never sees the hi-way and does short trips not reaching operating temp for any significant amount of time should be using the severe service oil change intervals and as Grumpy stated the rings may be gummed up.Common occurance in my Caddy because even on the hi-way it's only turning 1200 rpm, GMs solution is Wide open throttle runs to exercise the rings and decarbonize, night and day difference in the way it runs after. My last Caddy was an earlier generation Northstar that burned 5 gallons of oil on a 1400 mile trip to Fla, after doing the WOT thing it only burned 2 gallons going home, GMs solution for that was replace the rings. Sold the car
  15. Try taking it out on a quiet hi-way and doing a wide open throttle run to clear the carbon and rings. Put it in second and hold the pedal to the floor as long as you dare, look in the mirror, big cloud? repeat until the smoke is gone, Around town driving all the time ain't healthy for any sizeable engine. Short trips where the engine does not reach operating temp long enough to burn out the contaminates may have compromised the PCV system resulting in excessive oil consumption. Don't give up on it until you check these things out, it may be an inexpensive repair
  16. Try clamping 1 brake hose off at a time and take it for a test drive, that may help you determine which wheel is the culprit,
  17. If it is a new thing I would check the crankcase ventilation system, if it gets plugged up it works in reverse and will suck the oil out of the engine, On older models the baffles in the valve cover could get clogged requiring a new valve cover. Not familiar with the system on your truck
  18. so finally had a chance to scan it today, PO717 input/turbine sensor A circuit no signal, Looked at UTube, if it is just the sensor it looks like an easy fix. I'm guessing it is just the sensor where it was temperature related when the problem started, it does it all the time now. I will post the results when I get a chance to work on it, Monsoon rain tomorrow and I got too much crap in the garage to get it inside so I will clean the garage instead. The car is acting up, has a misfire and new clunk in the front end, I bought an 06 GMC 2500HD plow truck for $500, all the lines on the fuel pump are rotted off so I removed the bed and started to replace the brake lines, exhaust hangers etc. Not enough hours in the day!!
  19. Here in Mass the state troopers own the left lane, always 70+mph, if you do not move over they will stop you
  20. most accurate way would be to smoke test the exhaust system, for a leak to affect the 02 sensor it would have to be near the engine and you would hear it. As Cam said what's the code definition and the guys at Auto-Zone are not techs, they just repeat what their computer says.. I got in an argument with 1 of the boneheads that tried to sell me 6 spark plugs for a 5.7 because the computer said it was a 6 cylinder
