  1. Did the dipstick itself break or did the tube it slides into? The stick is easy, just measure the 2 broken pieces, the tube is trickier, install the new 1, change the oil adding the factory spec oil quantity and see where it shows on the stick. You may have to trim the tube with a tubing cutter to get the stick accurate.
  2. yo-yo prices on the hi-way the last couple days, Sunoco was $3.75, went down to $3.74 then up to $3.81, the twin Gulf stations ( 1 on both sides of the divided hi-way, same owner) was $3.84 and went to $3.89, Mobil went down a nickel, $3.89-$3.84 and dropped the plastic price a dime, to $3.89,truck stop went up a nickel to $3.85
  3. Question for you Grumpy, why is diesel so much more than gasoline? Seems to me that it may be slightly a little less refined than gas and it doesn't have 10% alcohol which presumably lowers the price of gas
  4. Diesel $5.42 at the truck stop on the hi-way
  5. $3.75 and up, cash on the hi-way, local lowest I could find was $3.83
  6. Next time you're on a road trip to a state where you can still buy it stock up on 12oz cans, you might look into getting certified so you can buy it where you are as well. When they switched from R12 to R134a the test for certification was easy, they basically just wanted the $25
  7. On vacation up in NH,Maine White mountains area, $3.99 seems to be a popular price, I did find an independent place with Top Tier 87 at $3.79
  8. Inching up again here, places that were $3.59 are back up to $3.79
  9. Same here Grumpy
  10. Correct. Read the directions on any chemical sealer you use, lots of RTV says to let it skin over BEFORE assembly. The more humid it is the faster it cures, I think the RIGHT STUFF can be assembled wet
  11. I had an 88 K1500 with a 5.7 that had those symptoms, I know totally different, it ended up being the ECM. Once you get the fuel system fixed if it still runs lousy you may want to investigate that. it didn't set any codes, stalled ,ran rough at times etc
  12. $4.57 regular on the turnpike, $5.39 diesel, filled the truck local this am, $3.69
  13. You could try a used 1, they used that engine in the Astro vans, Plenty of them in the boneyard. Look for a wrecked or rotted 1 so the chance that it was scrapped for that reason and not a mechanical issue will be greater
  14. Saw $3.56 on the hi-way this am
  15. On the machines I have used it is displayed during and after evacuation
  16. How much did they evacuate?
  17. I haven't seen diesel for less than $5.30 anywhere in my area
  18. $4.65 on the turnpike, diesel $5.79, local $3.87, hi-way $3.70s
  19. If it didn't have a chip in it it wouldn't have a security system. Do the relearn or get someone with a tuner to shut the system off
  20. You are probably hearing water in the doors, make sure the drain holes are clear
  21. $3.88/87 lowest I see local, lowest diesel $5.39 most places $5.50s. I saw 1 local station that had the balls to be charging $5.75 for 87. I spent $190 filling the car and truck this afternoon
  22. same here no change, scare tactics trying to get folks to hoard?
  23. I think they are pretty cool, like a 4wd Elcamino. I saw a new version on the hi-way about a month ago, it had dealer plates, wasn't called Avalanche but the bed body panels and the cab were all 1 piece, Most of the Avalanches and the Cadillac version have succumbed to rust here in the Northeast, the 1s that haven't are bringing decent $, Hi Doug
  24. It's only value would be in scrap metal. No one is going to buy a rear diff that needs new guts. The scrap metal value in my area is $200 a ton so it might be worth $10
