  1. To do the rear main it will require pulling the transmission or engine so the oil pan need not be removed unless it is leaking also. You might want to replace the torque converter while it's apart with a quality aftermarket before it fails and takes out the transmission
  2. You used to be able to buy a new frame from GM for less than $1000, no idea if they are still available or today's cost. I don't know where you are located but here in Mass if it won't pass inspection within 7 days and it cost more than 10% of the purchase price to repair it they have to take it back or repair it, as is or not UNLESS it was sold for parts or repair written on the bill of sale. I bet the cross members behind the cab are swiss cheese as well. Welcome to the Forum!
  3. Welcome to the Forum, it would be better to start a new thread than adding to 1 that is 3 years old. That said, how was it lowered? Drop spindles ?, Different springs ? If there is a real auto parts store near you that may still have the paper catalogs there are product specs listed in most. Probably on the computer too but the kid working at the chain store is just gonna try to give you whatever his computer says fits OEM. Is it possible the tapered hole was damaged during disassembly? I agree with asilverblazer's suggestions
  4. it will happen again, I went through 4 sets over the life of my 98 K2500, less than 200k when I wore it out and scrapped it. Gm parts everytime
  5. Holy s..t, talk about a piece of art! Waaay ahead of its time. I wonder what it cost in 25 and its value today. I bet they didn't make very many of them
  6. It is probably the torque converter coming apart and filling the trans with debris. DO NOT do anything lest the pump loses its prime and then it's dead. Have it towed to around the corner from where you are trading it in and cross your fingers that it makes it to their lot
  7. Are you sure it is a lifter you hear and not an exhaust leak? Broken manifold bolts are common and sound just like a lifter tick until it heats up then it goes away
  8. My friends Tahoe had a tick but was under warranty so I didn't bother to check it out, dealer said it was a bad spark plug, cracked insulator. Weird, no misfire. Not sure what year it was but it wasn't new, around 70k miles
  9. How is your oil pressure? Have you been regularly changing your oil? What viscosity are you using? Welcome to the forum!
  10. Well if it was in park and in 4wd you shouldn't have been able to spin the front driveshaft so the problem is probably in the transfer case, remove the encoder and manually shift it into 4 hi and try it. if it still doesn't work you may have a broken shift fork in the TC.
  11. The problem I have found is that replacement parts don't exist for most items, I have 1 of their bandsaws, they don't carry blades for it anymore never mind the cheap cast aluminum brackets that hold the table, Many many items that need small parts to function properly are rendered useless. lifetime warranty on hand tools requires receipt. I too miss Sears, I have a drawer full of broken craftsman stuff that I haven't figured out how to warranty yet. That said it is hard to beat their prices on toolboxes, I've had 1 of their roller boxes for about 10 years, no issues. Snap-On is out of control on their prices, you can buy a car for the price of a large roller combo, regular 10mm sockets like $25 now, it hurts when you lose 1. local guy won't stop at my shop anymore cuz after 50 years in the business I don't need any tools and he doesn't like warrantying the broken stuff. There hasn't been a Mac or Matco truck in the area for decades, Cornwell stops at my friends shop down the street
  12. Welcome to the forum, that was not a very good introduction, It would be helpful to know what truck you have and the audio options as well as what you have already done to resolve the issue
  13. I had a 70 c20 that had custom 50 gallon tanks on each side, fiberglass, probably not good with the alcohol in the gas these days. The truck could go from Mass to Fla on 1 gas stop towing. I'm sure you could make square body tanks work with some fabrication, you will have to cut holes for the fill pipes, later models have an internal fuel pump
  14. Probably a broken shift fork in the case, not a particularly hard job but easier with the case removed. check the encoder first to make sure, remove the motor and manually shift it into 4H and take it for a ride
  15. There is a good UTube video on that, looks pretty easy other than the door guts. I was gonna do it to my 04 but can't find the time
  16. No heat?
  17. Maye the football Gods smile upon the Pats
  18. Probably the thermostat again, the fans won't stop the engine from warming up if the Tstat is working properly
  19. I would inspect the wiring to the trailer plug carefully, corrosion may be inside the plug housing shorting the running lights to the brake power
  20. I agree with Cam, leaking transfer cases are common resulting in premature wear. Brake lines on a truck of that age would be a common problem regardless of the area , not a game changer IMO
  21. Bummer! Patience will be worth it hopefully
  22. Bone yard is probably going to be your best bet, If there's an LKQ picapart near you the prices are very reasonable and they should have a good assortment, there are probably a few different options for some of the panels. I have an 04 parts truck if you are anywhere near the northshore of Massachusetts
  23. A little late to complete the form but good info, thanks
