2024 HD orders / status
Salzette replied to Agargano98's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
My order was done the week of July 10 and accepted within a week by my dealer (had the allocation), for a gas 2500 LTZ. It was built just a couple weeks ago. Gas trucks are popping up all over in inventory (either available or sold orders) around my area. 3500s gas too. I’d be highly suspect of him saying no one can order gas? edit: unless for some reason it is on constraint? Do they even ever put a whole engine type on constraint? If so, I’d imagine that’d only be temporary… -

At first, Oshawa was only building certain popular configurations of the Chevy, while Flint built GMC and all configurations of Chevy. Not sure if that’s still true. -
Which truck should I take?

I’m not sure it’s that rare. My dealer didn’t ask for a deposit. Said they only would have if I’d been ordering something really unusual that would’ve been hard to sell. -

Well points to them for being up front about how many orders were ahead of you and not having an allocation yet. Not all dealers are up front. I ordered a Chevy. Although I ended up later buying a different one. but timeline was: 7/10 ordered - dealer already had an available allocation for my desired trim level 7/17 assigned TPW of 8/28 9/8 Built and awaiting shipment from Oshawa. (But that was with some help from the inside at GM…word is they were running 4-6 weeks behind from TPWs at least at Oshawa). So timing overall wasn’t bad…key was having an available allocation. But then my Red Hot Z71 sport package showed up available and the dark ash metallic chrome LTZ I ordered didn’t seem as fun… Timelines are probably out the window right now though depending on what happens with a likely strike starting in a few days… -
Same, at around 1:30am.

Same story: started looking when we realized we could actually make a couple grand profit on our ‘21 Tahoe over what we had into it. Glad we bought it at the end of 2020 when dealers were still struggling to recover. Looked at recent used first (new ‘23s were basically non-existent) for about a minute before realizing we could order (or eventually find) the ‘24 for the same amount.

Location will matter some. Some dealers around me have a few on the lot (looking at Chevy and GMC as a whole). Most either fall into the lower end trims or the heavily loaded models. Might be able to negotiate some if there is a bunch in stock near you. But with a possible strike coming, which in turn will limit available supply, dealers may be in no rush to give much of a deal. our dealer took our employee pricing, some in other parts of the country won’t even do that anymore.

Ordered 7/10, dealer already had an available allocation and there were no applicable constraints. TPW was supposed to be this week (8/28), but friends at GM looked into our order and Oshawa is running about a month behind those projected targets. (Supposedly Flint too, though not by as much right now) we were lucky enough to have friends who could move up the build to last week, but we ended up finding something on the lot we liked slightly better anyways and went that route. Even with that move it didn’t get built last week due to some delays again. All that to say even with an allocation, supply chain issues still creep up here and there, so with a pending strike it’s probably going to be a decent wait.

Honestly once it’s built it will show up in inventory as “in transit” when in reality, as others have mentioned on this thread, it might be waiting on a repair, might’ve been built short and waiting for parts, might be waiting to be released to the shipper, or might be as you said waiting with the shipper. “In transit” doesn’t really mean shipped as it implies. It basically means it was built and has a VIN -

Honestly I think GM just doesn’t tell dealers much, and dealers also have limited incentive to pass on what they do know. Here’s the example I’m basing that on: our dealer we ordered thru has a long history with my family. I can attest to their quality and communication, but the only update they had since my order date mid July was that a week later they received the TPW for 8/28. They haven’t gotten any new info. However, I had more info because of family friends high enough in GM had access to it. That TPW hadn’t changed but our truck was to be built in Oshawa roughly a month later than that date because they have been pushed behind for various reasons (mostly high demand and short term supply shortages off and on). The dealer has never gotten an adjusted TPW. Now…that same GM friend was able to move ours up on the schedule to start the build last week, but Oshawa was shut down again for a day or two because of shortages. I expect it’ll be built this coming week after all, but again the dealer had none of this knowledge. Now, we ended up buying a stock unit that I actually liked better than what I could order at the time due to constraints. So we aren’t waiting anymore for the order. But I’ll be curious to see if it gets built this week after all. the time when I think the dealers hold back what they know is in regards to allocation and acceptance by GM. They don’t want you to know that they don’t have your allocation yet, or that GM still hasn’t accepted, because they assume (probably correctly) that you’ll look for a different dealer to order thru. this is all just conjecture based on our experience, but given our history with our dealer I feel pretty confident that honestly they don’t get many updates from GM along the way either. edit to add that those of you ordering GMC, flint has had short stoppages too. For example, a couple weeks ago they cancelled a Saturday due to being out of transmissions. No idea if that was for the HDs or 1/2tons or across the board, but they are having brief stoppages too here and there that push things back. And I know they aren’t sending notice to dealers each time… sorry for the novel -
2024 Brake controller Problems

Will this be something all the 2024 should need for rv towing? Curious as we just picked up the new truck today and obviously haven’t towed the camper to see if we have the same problem. But we have fall camping plans once we get some miles on it… -

Ha to be fair it’s really more 5’3, and in this truck I think those 3 inches make a difference! The truck will be all mine though - I’m the one who does all the towing. I *might* let husband drive it once in awhile. Maybe. -

Wont they be surprised when my 5ft female self gets out with her two little kids for a target run I’m sure the kayak rack, kids bikes and bunkhouse camper strapped to the back all summer will spoil some of the flashy image too but I’ll ride high (literally in this huge truck which thankfully has power assist steps) on the cool factor for now -

The one I just got was listed that way too. I actually called the dealer about it and they didn’t want to make arrangements because I wanted a lot for my trade and the ship date was “Aug - Dec.” It was dropped on their lot 2 days later. No way to know for sure though, and rail shipping by nature of availability will take longer. -

Same! I never would’ve ordered it…but when I saw it in person I loved it. -

Well, this change of plan happened today! Had an LTZ on order, kinda wanted the sport edition but couldn’t order it at the time due to constraint (wasn’t a deal breaker, want not a need). Well this one popped into inventory and shockingly was dealer stock not a pre sold order. TOTALLY different look than what we ordered but I had been second-guessing that choice. Guess I was meant to have a bit more flash. -
Anyone have the inside info on ordering a truck?
Salzette replied to LEC2008's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
this is good advice. We talked to a few other dealers as the one we ordered thru is small, and further away from us by a decent amount. BUT what made me go back and talk to them was the other shady dealers I talked to. Non-refundable deposits, not taking our employee pricing, dodging questions about allocations: sure they would’ve gladly taken our money, and who knows of and when we’d see a truck, or some didn’t want to talk if you didn’t want the one on the lot. Don’t order with those guys. I kicked myself for wasting the time on other dealers, but your point is right on: small, reputable dealers sadly can’t always get the allocations. We got lucky ours had one. Best to keep looking and expand the search radius if you can. -

Talk to more dealers if you can. We have a Chevy on order and have a great dealer (that the family has a long standing relationship with). When they didn’t have what I was looking for, they let me know they had an allocation they could use to order the LTZ I wanted, and they let me know what current constraints were (none of which were things I needed). Within a week my order was accepted and assigned a TPW, because they had an allocation. IMO I wouldn’t order if they can’t be up front about allocations - at least they can be up front if they don’t have one or if they have a bunch of orders ahead of yours in line. They may even know that they’re at least likely to get some if they’ve been selling a lot of trucks. But Joe Schmoe on the sales floor might not know. You might have to connect with management to get better answers. But if even management won’t answer, I’d move to the next dealer. -

Nice! Hopefully the wait was worth it. My 2500 LTZ gets built next week in Oshawa and I’m *hoping* for a quicker delivery but only time will tell. -

I had to re-read those doc and admin fees. Wow. Aside from registration and sales tax (which is going to be the same across the state regardless of dealer), we pay just $75 for doc and $25 for title/plate transfer fee (state fee, so that’s actually the same everywhere too). I think I’d be in shock if that was suddenly $1700 higher… -

Not at all! I’d be thrilled if ends up being closer to 3 weeks for delivery (rather than 3 months..) Back to the waiting game! -

So when was your build completed again? Curious how long from build to delivery out of Oshawa…suspect that’s where mine’ll be built in the next couple weeks (TPW 8/28). I know shipping will be anyone’s guess but seeing real life timelines helps pass the waiting game -

Did you ever find out where yours was built? -
First (and closest) dealer I went to in my ‘24 HD search tried to tell me their $2000 ceramic protection was mandatory, then tried to offer me $8000 low on my trade…and told me it was because it didn’t have the sunroof. Like I didn’t know that’s max a $1k option for that vehicle. Bye-bye, and I’ll be going elsewhere for service from now on too. Went back to the dealer my family used to buy through for years despite the long drive. They honor our GM employee pricing and offered me what I knew my trade was worth right off the bat. Only problem was they didn’t have the truck I needed. 100% don’t regret ordering from them and waiting longer (thankfully they had allocation and it was accepted and scheduled within a week of order). I won’t waste my time elsewhere again. Would love to say at some point dealers like the first will lose their customers and have to shape up, but I think there are too many buyers that don’t do their research ahead of time and think that’s just how it will be everywhere and eat the extra costs etc.
