Thanks dmd277, hopefully any one with having such problems has been to the dealer and problem input for a repair so GM will see how many are having a problem.

Being more than OCD about properly balanced tires, I really feel for the ones having problems. If it is the tires, most common cause of seat vibration, I have found even my Michelins do not give a 100% smooth ride with just a road force balance. This is on my truck, sub, Accord and TSX. To get then to 100% or as close as you can get, I have to have then trued and balanced on the truck/car. 45 grand for a truck and I am not going to ride around on cheap OEMs. Again recommend Michelins and a good tire shop that knows how to balance a tire. Look around for a shop that trues and balances on the truck. they use stobes to do such. You may have to ask for a referral from a shop that repairs big trucks as some truck tires are balanced on the truck. That way you will know if it is the tires are not and have good tires. If you swapped tires and let dealer balance and still not riding correct, you are missing my point. good luck.

^ What did your service mgr. say? any possible fix?

I have a friend that has the driveshaft balanced on each new car he gets. I do such if the new tires, true and balance and new shocks do not result in a good smooth vibration free ride.

'09, cannot tell if not for DIC. tested 2 14s cannot tell at any speed. I think you maybe feeling trans lag/slow tip in on getting going at lower speeds

2014+ Power Tailgate Lock installed
Stex replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
MotoMedic, thanks for the excellent write up. Is there a trick to get the wire thru the grommet with out much damage? Also what is the powerpro you speak of? I know it is not the fishing line I use. Thanks again for the work. -
well just maybe that dealer cannot balance a tire. biggspell, try a good tire shop for a balance. where are you located? Does the dealer sell a lot of tires and thus balance often? Doubt it...
-
quickvert1: glad to hear the LTX may be the fix. Been running them for years, road and in and out of rough STex pastures. All good. P.S. if they ever get the Bilsteins in 5100 for the '14s going, they will take out that harshness you mentioned. Firm, controlled but not harsh.
-
Sounds like you both have good balance work going. Lets us know how the Michelins work out for you, quickvet1

quickvert1, once you get the Michelins, you may have to find a good shop to properly balance them. Most dealerships are not real good at properly balancing tires. dredd: what makes you think it is not the tires? the shop may not have properly balanced the tires. Some shops and some techs at the same shop are better than others on a road force.

Hector, quit crying in your beer and go to someone that balances tires for a living, not sell trucks. You guys going back to dealer for a balance, OK maybe twice, after that find some one that can balance a tire. Replacing OEMS is a mod.
-
Hey Hector99, who rebalanced your tires? If it was the dealer good luck.

Being one that is OCD about tire vibration and smooth ride I: 1. Consider replacing any non Michelin tire on a new ride on day of purchase or in the first week, just a truck Mod. 2. Fully understand that most dealers could not balance a tire giving them a month. 3. fully understand that Some places that road force balance are better than others. 4. Am lucky to have a shop with in 35 miles that trues and high speed balances on the vehicle. Again, I know it is a frustrating, but for the cost of a bed spray or cover you could be riding on Michelins LTX. Then: 1. you would have good tires for 60-80,000. I get 100,000 on the older model LTXs. 2. you would know for sure if it is the tires so you can move on to other areas with the dealer. Also, My tires are trued, high speed balance on the truck (balances rotor, wheel and tire and must wheel remain on the balanced stud location) and ride on Bilstein shocks (5100s). On smooth hwy it rides like glass BUT on rougher roads you get shake, seat movement and things moving around. Steering wheel is not shaking. So make sure your vibration issue is on very smooth roads. Usually a concrete overpass will be smooth or a just finished road. Good luck.

jdvaughn: which seat do you have? The one that vibrates with the alert system? Center console?
-
I hope all the problem trucks are going to the dealer so they can get a case string going for the FM. Enough dealer visits and write ups will move GM. Not emails to Jen... On the trucks that went to dealer, did they go into the dash an assure antenna etc... all hooked up properly?
-
Ryun911: Hope that can fix it. What is the vibration? Steering wheel moving? Front passenger seat shaking when empty? My friend had the Eagle 20s on his 07 SLT and never mentioned a vibration/balance problem. After about 30,0000, When he did replace them with LTX M/S2, he did say it rode better and wet driving was better. Let us know what they do. Side note: was at my GMC dealer today and noticed most of the 2500 HDs, '14s come with Michelin LTX A/T2.

Some here said some wheels replaced. Not running true I guess?
-
A lot of shops would rotate the tire on the wheel when it requires that much. Buy some good tires and get a good balance. Then one will know for sure and take away a least one variable in the vibration problem.

Man that is tuff. I would not be very happy with this either. All I can say is have you had someone besides the dealership look at the tires and do a road force balance? On my 90 GMC sub, when new, we put on two sets of Michelins trying to stop vibration. I finally just took the second set on the truck to a good tire shop and dang no vibration after a good balance. Good luck on this. Maybe another truck as some/most here are OK?

My tire shop in San Antonio does this. Smooth as glass ride. I even have them true my Michelins as soon as I get them on the truck. They use a strobe light now to balance the tire while spinning on the truck. they also true a tire, what you call shaving. There are still shops that do this but one must ask around. also used on trucks too so check some truck repair shops. After discount installs my tires and road force balance, I go to this shop and the balance is much better.

Is the vibration coming form the front tires (mostly steering wheel) or rear wheels drive shaft etc. (mostly empty passenger seat shaking). Have they checked the wheels for run out. Bent wheels? Have you been to a good tire shop? I would not expect a normal dealership to have the expertise to properly balance a tire. Once you go to a good tire shop and they check tires and wheels for run out and road force balance AND rotate tire 180 degrees on the wheel if called for in the road force balance and still a problem then back to the dealer. I Hope a good tire shop can fix you and the others on this issue. I know some here have heard this but, I myself would spend the bucks for Michelins and a good balance from a good tire shop. Discount tires, if in your area, will buy your take offs, thus reducing the cost. Then if not fixed I would be beating like heck on the dealership service mgr.
-
I would not expect a dealership to be able to properly balance a tire in 30 mins or 30 days. find a good tire shop. Then you will know: 1. it is the tires or 2. it is not the tires. A good shop can tell you if it is too far out to balance. Then new tire. A really good tire shop can true a tire and high speed balance on the auto. A really good shop like this is hard to find but if you do put them on your Christmas list. Again, replacing OEMs and a good balance job should be considered a mod and not play lets beat up the dealership tell they give me new tires that they cannot balance either. Good luck guys.
-
yes it is mostly tires or the poor balancing of such. All new tires will ride much better if trued by someone that knows how to properly true a tire and high speed balance on the car/truck. A new truck here or there may have mechanical issue but most vibs in steering wheel and seat are the result of tires and balancing. All tires are out of round some and weight too. It is a matter if enough to cause a ride problem even with a good balance. If I were one of the unfortunate here with the vibration problem, I would start with the tires. And not at the dealership. Then with good tires and balance and still a problem go back to the dealer. Let the dealer know about the vib problem and take their shot and then if not fixed, let them know you are going to replace the oems. This way they cannot say well it is those new Michelins.... Unless it comes with Michelins, to me replacing oem tires is just a mod that should be done as soon as possible. Same with shocks.
