  1. ^ the second part of my comment was to move on to drive train shop, drive shaft etc, once satisfied tires are correctly balance. Have you been to a good shop to have the drive train checked. They can usually tell if drive shaft, bearings, gears or shafts are the issues. Then a trans shop to make sure not torque converter etc...If something is identified and expensive, return to dealer to try to get them to fix. If all this and no better than buy back or lemon I guess? Good luck.
  2. So the dealer did the mounting and balance? if so, Please, to eliminate tire balance as an issue one must find a quality tire shop. IF at all possible find a shop that will strobe balance the wheel and tire on the truck. Once wheels and tires balanced properly and still a problem, then move on to drive train and not with the dealer. Did one know that some road force balances require the shop to break down the tire and rotate 180 degrees on wheel,if first balance is too far out? A good tire shop will do such. Also how many miles on the new tires before balance? Need at least 500. Then rebalance if necessary.
  3. Yes, you will like the Michelins. LTX MS2 ? They ride better, stop better and better all around traction, esp. over the GY LS. Let us know and you may have to look around for a good balance if a little off. Some dealers are not the best at balancing as eq maybe old or tech not up to speed. Most dealers do not balance a lot of tires. Not like Discount or Costco etc...
  4. Have a loaner '14 SLE while my trk has some work done. 20 inch SLE wheels with GY LS. Thing shook so bad on drive home I thought a wheel was loose. It has to be bad tires or balance. I can tell these GY LS are really not a good tire. Even at slower speed and no shake, they are harsh and ride rough. Feel like they are inflated to 60 lbs (they are not). The GYs LS are No comparison to my Michelins on my truck. If this was my truck, I would dump these tires for Michelins so fast. Even if I had to get a loan to do such. Then trueing/high speed balance on the trk. IF still an issue, then I would return to dealer to look elsewhere. OH, I would be sure to check the wheels for run out etc...when changing tires.
  5. Not $1,000. If you have discount tire nearby. They will give you something for your take offs. Just cannot see paying 40-50,000 for a truck and driving on low bid oems. Life is too, too short for fighting with gm. Even it the new Michelins do not fix it you are way ahead with a better tire and it will ride, handle and stop better than now.
  6. Question: does one need to remove headlight assembly for this ( nitrogen flood of assembly) or can you reach it as installed?
  7. What does the print out say? Moisture in head light normal? Pic of replaced headlight anyone?
  8. Going for the valve cover, decarb and pan pvc fix. Service mgr said it has stopped the problem on all they have done. Will see. May take your advice and add catch can after the repair. Good news is my friend went from an '11 to a loaded '14 SLT CC. Been driving it for 6 months. No issues what so ever. If I can get this one down to about 1/2-3/4 qts per 5,000 change may keep. If not,'15 if I can find the scratch.
  9. this right here is why I replace OEMs on my own dime ASAP, if not the same day I pick up the ride. Life is too short and the cost of good non-OEMs is nothing compared to what one throws at GM for the ride. Only exception to this rule is if the ride comes with Michelins. Then just to my friend Ted for trueing and high speed balance on the car/truck.
  10. TR, just saw your location. You are close enough to San Antonio to check out Southwest Brake and Alignment . Have been using for years, Trued and high speed balanced on the truck tires even last longer. Call early in the week and ask for Ted the owner. He is there crazy early. Once the tires are done, he can tell you if the drive shaft, u-joints etc. still have vib problems. If he ever gives this up I do not know what I am going to do, as Discount tires road force does not match this. http://www.southwestbrakealignmentsa.com/
  11. Seats vib is usually rear tires. Maybe not well balanced. Ask around and see if you can find a place that balances tires on the truck and hopefully can true a tire. Some big truck brake, front end repair shops do such. Ask around. If cannot find such have the shop recheck the balance. Then look at drive shaft, u joints etc...Lifted trks change the angles on drive shaft, may want to check that too.
  12. ^ no. that is not your AFM. Let us know what dealer says.
  13. Did you tell them they forgot to fix the tires? Two trips because they where too indifferent to check it out the first time.
  14. Thanks for the replies. Did your engines fail the piston ring test with the fluid or did the dealer just go all in for pistons and rings? Looks like mine qualifies now for the fix. Not sure they will do the pistons/rings as they have yet to test for that. Do not like the idea of going into the engine but also do not like the idea of being out of warranty soon and the oil issue gets much worse and I have to pay. Also if I sell or trade I would like to say with a straight face it is not a major oil burner and has had the repairs.
  15. ^ how much oil is it using? I have read the thread. Any one have the fix and have put enough miles on the truck to know if it is working???
  16. Test drive today on a short bed CC, 4x4, z-71, 3.42. 18s with GYs on them. It was a dealer trade and thus had 500 miles on it. Ran out just fine. No wheel balance issues at any speed. Even up to 80 on the interstate. My 09 has LTX m/s2. That have been trued and high speed balanced on the truck. The '14 was close to that but I could tell Michelins would have improved it, esp with a true and balance on the truck.
  17. That is why I recommended a drive shaft shop. We have such here. It is specialized and not a ton of such shops in each town but they are around. Had my 90 Subs drive shaft done ( rebalanced) and it helped.
  18. Thanks, but have already done such. Oil use just below GM guidelines. Either way not good, as you either have an oil burner or the engine opened up. Just not a good choice and hopefully the '14 owners will not have to make such a choice.
  19. Being OCD about tire balance, I am sorry for those with vibration issues on the '14s. Have you had some one besides the dealers balance the tires? Also a good drive shaft shop can check the drive shaft. These are the two most common cause areas. Also, once Bilstein shocks, 5100s, are online for the '14s they will help.
  20. Thanks for the reply strike 1st. I hear you. GM had better have the '14s fixed as to eating oil. My '09 is at 60,000 miles and will be out of wty in 3 months. Using 1 1/2 -2 qts per 5,000 mile oil change. So, wty goes away and oil consumption jumps to the GM oh we would fix that level of burn but sorry Charlie out of wty. . Heck my '90 GMC sub only burns 1/2 qt on a 4,000 mile oil change and it has 356,000 miles on an original 350 ci engine. Most of that is valve stem seals. I was looking at Blue oval but now they have the aluminum thing going. Having worked in metallurgy, I am going to let that work out before going there. Well the 2015 Stang looks good and I hear you can see out of it, unlike the Camaro. So maybe keep the 09 oil well and get a stang for kicks. So hope the '14 works and like you say surely (don't call me Shirley) GM has the oil thing fixed now. If not, I would return it like the old lady returns tires on the discount commercial.
  21. Do you know the '14s will not have the oil consumption issues? I have been asking service mgrs. but they have no history yet as the '14s are so new???
  22. hotrodz37: Once the Michelins are on and if still a problem take it to a good tire shop to check the balance and run out of the tires.
  23. My 09 looks like it will not meet GMs requirements for the oil burn fix. Running at about 1 1/2 to 2 qts low on 5,000 mile oil change test. So would replacing the valve covers help and what would be a cost estimate? AFM is off,
  24. Being more than OCD about properly balanced tires, I really feel for the ones having problems. If it is the tires, most common cause of seat vibration, I have found even my Michelins do not give a 100% smooth ride with just a road force balance. This is on my truck, sub, Accord and TSX. To get then to 100% or as close as you can get, I have to have then trued and balanced on the truck/car. 45 grand for a truck and I am not going to ride around on cheap OEMs. Again recommend Michelins and a good tire shop that knows how to balance a tire. Look around for a shop that trues and balances on the truck. they use stobes to do such. You may have to ask for a referral from a shop that repairs big trucks as some truck tires are balanced on the truck. That way you will know if it is the tires are not and have good tires. If you swapped tires and let dealer balance and still not riding correct, you are missing my point. good luck.
