  1. I saw in the GM newsroom that the 8 speed and 10 speed automatics both received updates to improve shift quality. I wonder if it is physical or software. As far as the 8 speed goes I wonder if anything will apply to 2015-2018 8 speeds. My 2017 has 16000 miles on it and finally shifts normally about 90% of the time. Still feel a bump downshifting into 1st occasionally and occasionally a rough shift from 1st to 2nd if I let off the gas before it shifts. I figured out how to keep the upshift from happening but haven't figured out the downshift. I'm convinced it will do it forever but then again it's never not done what it's supposed to do and I've never had the vibration issues. Anyways a backwards compatible software update other than "relearn" would pretty outstanding.
  2. On the GM tis calibration update search website you can put in your vin number and it will show if there are any calibration updates. When I put my vin number in it said there was an updated transmission calibration for my 8 speed. There was actually 4 part numbers for different calibrations. If I took it in for an oil change wouldn't a dealership automatically apply all applicable updates to any vehicle that has any outstanding? It would be the same as your phone asking you to update to latest software.
  3. I had a 2016 ltz double cab with 6.2 v8 and 8 speed transmission and now a 2017 ltz crew cab with 6.2 v8 and 8 speed transmission. Never had any of vibration issues or any issues at all after 3600 miles but transmission does a lot of issues that others have said 6 speed does. Never felt like it was in neutral but both trucks clunker in 1 to 2 shifts at low speeds sometimes very harshly. Took 2017 truck to dealer and they did quick learn tsb for harsh low speed shifts. It clunker first shift upon leaving parking lot. I now drive it in my or m7 anywhere but on interstate. It makes it better but not perfect. This is my first new pickup of any brand, well actually the 2016 was. I love the truck otherwise. Lots of power when it shifts properly. I didn't test drive other brands or have experience with pickups from other brands. I would have bought a tundra because of the toyota reputation for reliability as well as my own experience with toyota cars. The tundra doesn't get good ratings mainly because of the need for a major redesign. They of course get outstanding reviews for reliability and durability and it's hard to find a bad consumer review on a tundra other than the fact that it doesn't get great gas mileage. I should have went that route for the feeling of security. I definitely didn't want a dodge and I didn't want a pickup with a turbo v6. If you look at data on reliability between ford and gm pickups on both conumerous reports and jd edwards it's pretty much a tossup. Any real life experience out there between the two? I can say I probably won't buy another gm pickup and I will trade this one in on a tundraft whenever they get a redesign in 2018 or 2019. You can get a very nice tundra for the price of a mid range gm or ford also.
  4. I have never had the shaking issues. Maybe 2017's are fixed. I've never had the harsh down shift I have heard of while coming to a stop that actually forces the truck forward. Has anyone had their 8 speed totally fail or is it just the rough shifting issues? It seems like I have read about transmission issues on almost every brand with new 6 or more speed transmissions. Although I haven't read of any issues with toyota tundras. I had a volvo xc60 t6 with a 6 speed automatic before this and it always shifed very smoothly.
  5. Someone said this already but I have been driving around town in m7. It could be my imagination but it seems much better although it has literally only been 2 days. I will keep driving it that way and see what happens. It is sad you can't get a manual transmission in crew cab pickups anymore. That 6.2 with a manual would be a blast to drive.
  6. Someone mentioned this but I have been driving in m7 around town. It could be my imagination but it seems much better around town. It's only been a few days but so far no clunk unless it is first shift in the morning. That isn't really a clunk it is just more harsh than others. It is sad you can't get a manual transmission in crew cab pickups anymore. I would have went with a manual in a heartbeat. That 6.2 with a manual would be a blast to drive.
  7. At No F-bdy Bs. I am concerned about the same issue that the 8 speed transmission was a stepping stone to the 10 speed and nothing will ever get done about it. I think it is short lived sp engineering focus is nor on fixing it and until an aftermarket tune makes it better, which of course voids warranty we will be stuck with crappy shifting transmissions. It's disappointing because everything else about the pickup is great.
  8. I have a 2017 silverado with 8 speed and 6.2 v8. I have a rough shift from 1-2 at parking lot speeds. It clunks shifting down sometimes as well but not usually as bad. It now has 3500 miles. I have already taken it to the dealership twice. They performed the quick learn tsb after service manager verified rough shift. The sound does not seem like it could be good for transmission. I have read about a lot of people having issues. After quick learn it seemed better but now it seems to be getting worse again. I hoped after the 3rd year of transmission being out maybe it would be fixed. Have tried tow/haul mode and it doesn't do it as often. Does anyone have enough miles on this similar truck that issue went away and transmission did finally "learn" how to not destroy itself? If am going to lemon law it I am going to soon.
