  1. Heys guys. 2015 6.2L Sierra Max Tow. Picked my truck up from Ziebart yesterday, DIC displayed the Service Stabilitrak message, I ignored it as it has popped up several times over the life of vehicle but never noticed anything wrong. This time, I did notice something. As I pulled out of the parking spot, it felt like 4wd was engaged. Felt like drivetrain was binding and tires skipping/hopping from locking up. Whether it was a good or bad decision I kept driving a few miles down the road to a store. When I pulled into a parking spot, I experienced the same binding. I noticed on the 2wd/4wd nob that the light was very dim. Turned truck off, turned truck back on, no message, but 2wd/4wd nob light very dim. Put it to Auto, light comes to regular brightness. Flip back to 2wd, not sure if the truck rolled slightly or what but I felt like the rear of truck dropped down. 2wd/4wd nob light still full brightness. Drove to a few more stores on way home, no issues. It was snowing so I was purposely getting TC / ST to come on when in parking lots and also on my street to my house. It was working normally. I'm almost thinking the truck was confused and didn't know what drive mode it was in? Maybe it was in 4wd even tho nob was in 2wd? Sure felt like it! Any thoughts?
  2. I'm with you, I have a 15 6.2L with Max Tow. The 3.0 has really interested me however I'm not sure I want to settle for less power haha. I'm sure the 3.0 does well towing up hills etc, however I can't help but think our 6.2s will do it all better, maybe a little higher rpms on certain hills but whatever. I'm in MI so no mountains. I keep seeing mixed reports of mpg on the diesel as well. What actually is the mileage of a 3.23 dmax at 75mph vs 3.73 dmax at 75mph? Seems like whe guys put a level kit and tire on these they mpg takes a harder hit than gasser does. If the 3.73 dmax got 26-27mpg at 75mph then maybe I'd consider as that is a solid gain over my 6.2. I just paid my truck off last month though so I've lost a lot of interest in new haha.
  3. I woke up with morning to my phone having a suggested YouTube video notification. It was yours, how weird lol crazy how "they" (I'm guessing) used this thread to determine to push that notification to my phone via YouTube. Anyway great vid - when you were going up that grade were you going wide open throttle ?
  4. Probably would be better posted in the general discussion area but nonetheless, I have the Falkens and am very happy with them.
  5. Nice truck - I'm jealous lol. The 3.0 really interests me. Regarding the temp, I mean GM built this engine ground up to operate well in to the low 200s. Yes - I would be concerned just like you if I wasn't informed on this topic. On the other hand as others mentioned, GM did not build the 5.3/6.2 to operate well into the low 200s. I'm not sure how well the dealers, or more specifically the sales people, are informed of these new technologies. Heck, most sales guys probably don't know what engine their own car has ?. Of course on the back end of things your service guy should also be informed. I am lucky to have a service guy who is in to cars as a hobby so he's pretty up to date on things. Even his office is decorated with car stuff. The other service people.... not so much. I'm getting off topic!
  6. Surprised the dealer didn't say that is normal. This engine runs a little warmer than your traditional gas engine. GM purposely has it setup to do so. When you tow, it actually runs a little cooler.
  7. Summary: while ceramic coatings are superior, don't bother unless you plan to put the time in to properly maintain it or plan on paying someone to regularly maintain it. If you haven't, I'd do some research on actual detail forums like Autogeek or Autopia. You'll find that these coatings are not magic and don't last "forever". I personally just tried Gyeon CanCoat myself which is a "coating lite" product. Not necessarily a full blown ceramic coating. I've been super impressed with it but fortunately or unfortunately I haven't been able to test it tough as my job has switched to permanent remote since March. At the end of the day, if you use your truck regularly, your going to need to likely do yearly decontamination and claying and at least a topper of some sort because your ceramic coating will start to get tired and lose hydrophobic properties as the months go on. That being said, I do think ceramic products are great but spending 1k on them seems crazy to me but I do my own detailing so to each their own!
  8. It certainly wouldn't hurt anything to raise the PSI. It will give you a minor stability boost and probably reduce tire ware, marginally. . I run around 40psi in my P rated tires. PS - I think you should be more focused on the Load Range, not speed rating. I doubt you have a tire on your truck that would limit your legal highway speed lol. Regardless if your P, LT, or E load range, increasing the PSI while towing isn't a bad idea by any means. Don't overthink it. Towing is nothing new!!!
  9. Isn't there a difference between a 93 octane 10% ethanol vs 90 octane no ethanol? I'm not a tuner or anything but 90 octane is practically "premium". I think you'd be better off running 90 ethanol free vs 93 with ethanol, but I have no evidence to support this. Generally these ethanol free fuels are noticeably more expensive than 10% ethanol so I always opt to fill with the 10% mix, plus, thats all thats available around me lol.
  10. The flapper was removed and I also had the resonator removed. Yes it does drone in V4, at certain speeds it is worse than other speeds. I just kind of live with it or drive in M7 if not on the highway. If I'm on the highway going 75 and it happens to go into V4, it's hardly noticeable.
  11. I've only ever ran Flowmaster prior to getting a Black Widow, so minimal experience. That being said, I have a Black Widow Venom 250 and absolutely love it. Basically 0 drone on the highway. Strongly recommend it. I also like the sound - it has a more clear tone than the flowmaster. Sound is objective to each person obviously. I personally am not a fan of these super loud mufflers but being a Black Widow product i would say Yes go for it. I have interior/exterior videos on my YouTube Channel, SierraNick62
  12. Every time I see a 3.0 post that says low to mid lows on highway, I'm always disappointed to hear, then I find out that was at or near 80mph. Now that is impressive MPG at that speed. My 6.2 would be a couple mpg off its highway rating too if I kept it around 80. The fact that you can do 80 in a truck and comfortably get over 20mpg is impressive - especially with your leveling kit and tires.
  13. I'm pretty sure this engine is designed to run hot, especially when NOT under load. It helps with the emissions. When you are towing, you should see temps come down (sounds odd I know). Check out Chad Ivan on YouTube he shows this across a couple different videos.
  14. Hey all. I live on a dirt road. Despite having a paved driveway of about 100ft, it is no where near long enough for the tires to rid themselves of the dirt. Anyone have ideas on garage flooring? Right now I vacuum the garage floor with a shop vac about twice per year (spring and fall) and I have to blow out the filter multiple times because the sand/dirt clogs it up rather quickly. Sweeping isn't really an option as it gets super dirty no matter how careful i try to be = shelves and all items on them covered in dust. I do see that they make these huge mats you can lay down that have a lip to contain water. These look nice but I'm not really interested in spending hundreds on that. My next idea is maybe some outdoor type carpeting? Maybe cut up two pieces to follow the path of the tires. Cleanup would be fairly easy, I think. Could power wash or simply shake it off outside. Not sure what would happen after driving in the rain and parking on it. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? Also would need to do on the wife's side as well.
  15. Your lot size sounds similar to mine . This will be my third season with the Toro Timemaster 30" (not what you're looking for i know...). I have no regrets buying it. Mulches really well with twin blade setup. I mow my front lawn on max height (I'm kind of a lawn nut) and this mower stripes pretty well. Sometimes life gets a little busy and the lawn gets away from me. Already on max height not much I can do and I do not like to bag. Little slower speed, with the side chute open and no issues at all.
  16. I'm in the dream shopping phase. My thing is that I'm a bit skeptical this truck is getting as good of MPG as it is rated for. Obviously we've seen TFL, and I saw two other Private owners (actual buyers) of the truck do highway loops at 70mph and did achieve 30 or 31mpg. Then I see other people on here going 75 - 80mpg getting 24 or 25. My truck gets 18mpg at that speed. I suppose this is still a good improvement at 6 to 7mpg minimum. Over a 500 mile trip that is 7.7 gallons saved and 23$ (comparing to 6.2L premium fuel) or 18$ saved on regular fuel. I suppose at the end of the day it is still a great purchase, assuming long term ownership doesn't have any problems. But then @becker87 says he installs a leveling kit and assuming an E rated tire slightly larger than stock and gets 18 mpg lol so it seems way too easy to kill the mpg on this truck. Leveling my truck with a 1 inch taller tire netted a 1 - 1.5mpg loss on highway, however I did stick with a P rated all terrain. Honestly I would opt for the RST Silverado vs the Sierra simply because one of the major factors is the MPG it gets. I don't love the new sierra enough to already be a few MPG behind the silverado before I do any mods. Agreed! Did you see The Fast Lane Truck run it against the new EcoDiesel? That EcoDiesel is sooo slow lol it lost by truck lengths.
  17. Or.... people who buy a high end sports car are enthusiasts to begin with (or a rich YouTube kid who destroys it to make money) and are much more likey to be "involved" in the maintenance of their car. Secondly, for the average vehicle, the average person buys it and will not be looking under the hood, potentially NEVER. Putting a catch can on these vehicles would be a disaster for the OEM as they'd just fill up and who knows what would happen next. Instead, the OEM says "Hey, every 15,000 miles you need to run this BG Top End cleaner in order to maintain a cleaner and efficient engine". I asked the foreman at my dealership before I bought my truck about catch cans. He said "No, don't use those. Instead, we recommend you get our cleaning service every 15,000 miles to prevent buildup". Clearly, something is needed. Now what that is, well like others have said, let's see an engine with higher mileage, say 75k: one with no catch can, no cleaning service ever one with catch can, no cleaning service ever one with catch can and had cleaning service every 15k That is how we will know. Til then, we can just keep saying what we think ?
  18. My phone battery stays constant while charging with navigation going, and screen off. I bought one of those 12v cigarette plugs with a 1amp and 3amp outlet, this did nothing to help.
  19. This video has interior and exterior startups as well as some revs. Sounds badass for a 3.0!!! Reminds me of a 5.9 Cummins!!
  20. Anyone watch TFL's video of the Ram vs Silverado drag race? Duramax beat the EcoDiesel well over a truck length lol.
  21. I was just trying to make a point that I wouldn't say the truck will get 30+ consistently, and don't trick yourself into buying one if you think you will get 30+ unless you purely drive ideal conditions. I believe that upper 20s are certainly realistic. An owner on YouTube has proven this with his experience so far. Not trying to downplay the mpg numbers. Heck I hope more and more owners experience and can share their great MPG numbers with real world driving!
  22. First thing is come to the realization you will not get 30mpg plus with this truck unless you are driving 55mph everywhere. I bet you could have a good chance of at least matching your Pilots mpg. Im not exactly sold on diesels being a lot more expensive to maintain, however, when something breaks, count on it being more expensive! I'm not sure either but like you said lets see what happens as they are around longer.
  23. Yes, it is said that the belt, which I think runs the oil sump, will most likely require service at or around 150,000 miles. The transmission has to be dropped to get to it I guess. Guessing it would be more than few hundred to get that fixed haha... for someone like me who drives 10-15k miles per year... it isn't something that makes me want to say a hard No to this engine.
  24. That's a good question... I haven't tried it recently but I recall that the Max Tow package isn't even available on the 3.0 Duramax. I think the only thing you can do is get the Trailering Equipment packages and Tow Mirrors are an independent option which you can select. The 3.0 Duramax must not require the enhanced cooling/gearing which is offered on the Gas trucks for Max Tow package.
