My truck developed the shake at 28k miles. Was aware of the problem early on and periodically drove up to 80mph to see if the shake was there. Once it showed up, it came and went randomly.. towing a boat did not help the shakes... it also got a minor shake around 40mph. To me, it sounds like its a gamble...and a harmonic vibration, which will change with road condition and/or tire balance and/or bad shocks and/or drive line variations... a critically damped system should not do this... the 2014-2018 platform is not this, imho... good luck..

Glad I swapped back.. not one regret... not one visit to the shop.. not one suspicion of a problem.. I turn the key, put it in gear and it drives... period. Thats what $40k should get you.. So my neighbor just asked me about my old truck (15 Silverado) as his son was looking at a used Silverado (14 w/33k miles). He said the transmission clunked and it drove like squat on the highway.. I was shocked... told him to buy it as he's probably imagining all these problems. And then to go get a Chevy or GM tattoo.. Still can't stay away from this train wreck of a thread though... really hope the 2019's are fixed.. for the sake of those that won't drive FERDS. Nobody should have to deal with this.. it's GM's problem but the poor suckers like us pay the price.

Regarding your instrument cluster rattle, not sure if this helps but I had one too. The noise was coming from just below my steering wheel. Mentioned it at a service appointment and they replaced the knee bolster panel. 5 minutes down the road, the rattle came back. When I got home, I removed the panel (four clips, just pull it back gently to find them), I found four screws behind the knee bolster panel that needed to be tightened down. Good luck.

Keep posting at this rate and you'll be a moderator before long! I bet your GMC needed to be detailed 100 yards down the road from the dealership. You were probably an excited boy, first truck and all. We all remember our first time. hahaha.. I bet you're the guy who puts his toolbox in the bed by throwing it over the side!

The problem is more pervasive than you wish to believe. I'm not sure what makes you the subject matter expert. Are you a GM employee, engineer, or mechanic? Pointing the finger back at Ford, Dodge or Toyota doesn't make the vibration problem go away. Nor does it excuse Ford for the problems with the fecalboost motor. I didn't buy the fecalboost because I heard bad things about the early revisions.. gotta be careful with every make and every redesign. I went with the 5.0L V8 to avoid the new 10 speed tranny they have. Didn't want the 3.5L w/10speed and the 2.7L wasn't an option for me. And yes, brace yourself, GM is working with Ford on this 10 speed tranny design. Imagine that? Who knows what kind of crap they'll spin up here! What will the fanboys do now that they share transmissions? Btw, the 5.3L is a nice motor. I actually agree with that. Its rock solid, very capable. Its the stuff they put around it that is the problem... Back to the topic: there is a problem with this platform and that's a fact. How many have the vibration is unknown. Jury will be out until 2024-2027 and we get ten years of history to look at. I know at my dealer, the service rep readily admitted that there were alot of truck that had it and that GM didn't have a fix. He looked like a man that was sick of toeing the party line, which tells you he is sick of lying to customers. Its a big dealer and they do alot of business, for what its worth. There are plenty of us out there that spend good money and expect a decent ride. Yes, its a truck and will drive like a truck. But vibrations like this are totally unacceptable. I'm sorry that some can't seem to wrap their heads around the fact that this problem exists... but it does. If you had the vibrations, you would not like your truck, I almost guarantee that. Almost, because some say they can live with it... or they don't drive 80 mph. So they don't care.

So you knew about the shake, but did not think to test drive one to see if it had the shake? Just want to make sure I understand.

Its the random guest that comes along and makes an account to ask a serious question about a very real, very serious vibration problem with this platform.. then two pages of bickering among the fanboys and ex-Chevy owners.. its all good entertainment.. but really.. the topic of the thread is shakes and vibration. The only ones who know what is going on are housed in a GM plant somewhere. I think its a matter of time before the 2016's start showing issues. Who knows, maybe they found something and fixed. There were few complaints of 2015 shakers until recently... it takes some mileage and wear and tear to uncover the vibration, if you have it. Mine drove very smooth until 28k miles, at all speeds... then things went south. Sorry to interrupt the trolling... carry on!

Just like buying a truck that shakes like a dog pooping razor blades and having a dealer tell you its normal. What will all that vibration do to the longevity and reliability of the drive train components? Answer - not good things.

Lets get the thread back on topic.. Purchased a new 15 Silverado CC two years ago. Noticed in the first few drives that there was a vibration on back roads at ~38-43 mph. Nothing bad, just an underlying hop/wobble, like an unbalanced wheel. Called dealer and was told... flat spots on tires. Searched online for vibrations in Chevy truck and found this forum. Been following ever since. Noted the issues others were having at higher speeds. Mine did not do that...at first. Drove this truck for two years. Out on the highway one day with wife/kids and console started shaking at 77-80 mph. For the record, my truck drove good until the 28k mile mark. Towed my boat the following weekend and was sure to get it up to 80 mph to see if loading down the bed/pinion angle had any effect. It did, but not enough to get rid of the shakes. Subsequent trips on the highway yielded inconsistent results, some days good, some days not so good. Never really bad enough for me to consider bringing it to a dealer for service, especially since I've been reading this thread all along and no one has the magic bullet. Didn't want to do the dance.. was worried they would make it worse. One afternoon, driving home at 40 mph, it literally was vibrating on a freshly paved road. It was all I could think about and drove me nuts. It was time to move on.. Purchased a Ford F150 CC. Love it. I did not realize how bad the Chevy had gotten until I drove the F150. Driving the same roads is like night and day. Took a bit of a wash on the Chevy but its worth every penny. I truly enjoy driving again. I believe that the engineers at GM know what the issue is but it must be an expensive fix or something that would affect the safety ratings/qualifications for this platform. After living through this, I firmly believe that this is a resonance in the truck that is not being damped properly. Rotating parts/ road variations just excite the system and the result is oscillations. If they had a quick fix, the 16's and 17's would have been fixed and some very pointed TSBs would have been issued for the 14's/15's. All I hear is crickets from GM. And all you pissed off customers. Other observations: - I also had the V4 to V8 shudder, that is another problem entirely and can be "fixed" by driving in M5. - Had the V4 to V8 squeak.. that can also be fixed by the M5 to keep it in V8. - My drivers side seat would shift on me every now and again.. like the frame was broken. - The 5.0L V8 is much better than the 5.3L V4/V8, in my opinion. More HP, better acceleration and more responsive. - Ford 6-speed shifts smoother and drives nicer, especially when decelerating (to about 15-20 mph) and then accelerating back to 40mph, like in normal everyday traffic. The Chevy had a lag that drove me crazy. Had the same lag when going up a hill and needing to gas it. Unresponsive throttle. If you mash the gas pedal down, there is a very hard downshift - Speaking of, had random hard downshifts on the Chevy if I didn't brake on deceleration, like when coasting. - Ford has much better handling on corners, the steering is a bit more aggressive - Both had paint scratches and dings within the first week. I'd rather an aluminum body that scratches easily than a $50k massage. - Who is Chevy kidding with these commercials?! Who the f__k would dump pavers into the bed of a truck from a forklift? Or lift your toolbox up OVER the side of the bed? Usually, toolboxes have heavy things inside, like tools! My balls would be rolling down my pant leg if I tried to lift my toolbox up and over.. - Never been a Ford or Chevy guy, but after this, can't see myself buying GM again. Sorry to bag out of this one, I know it would only help the others with issues if I did log the problems (strength in numbers).. but I don't feel like it would get me anywhere. I'm part of the silent majority... I'm guessing others will eventually develop issues with their trucks. Time will tell. I used to think I was one of the lucky ones that didn't have it.. but here I am. The fix for me was to go back to Ford and I'm happy I did. GM can choke on a bag of muddy you know whats! I never logged a problem, signed anything.. and am free to talk about this. If you have a choice and are looking at new used, I would not recommend Chevy/GMC. Good luck to those with the vibration problems. I really hope GM figures it out for your sake. Its a nice truck otherwise. It was a shame to dump out so soon on a newer truck but it was the right call. Go get a Ford, Dodge or Toyota. Pick your poison wisely! They all have issues.. its just the lesser of four uglies..

New Chevy owner (2015 Chevy LT Crew, 5.3L V8) - just picked up truck from dealer yesterday. Test ride went ok, didn't notice any vibration. Felt a bit of a vibration at 35-40mph, thought maybe its the wheel balance.. then I find this thread. Oh boy.. I thought I was moving away from Ford to a more reliable design that's been proven. Did not expect this. I've read a bit of the thread (but not all 356 pages!!) Is there a summary of what to do? I've seen tires, driveshaft balance, pinion angle, tie rods, rear end.. etc listed as being root cause but is there a summary of what the fixes are? Does it depend on the truck? The vibration is not that bad and I can feather the gas to help it. It actually drives great at highway speeds. Love the truck otherwise. A question for the community: should I live with a slight vibration or do I bring back to the dealer to fix? Will they make it worse? Should I wait until GM figures it out? If I do have a problem down the road, I want to make sure that I've documented the fact that I'm having the same issue. That's one argument for taking it to the dealer.
