  1. I tow a 6k pound travel trailer with a 14 Silverado. I was tired of replacing warped rotors. I installed the PowerStop z36 slotted/vented rotors & carbon fiber ceramic brake pads on all 4 wheels. Huge difference over the stock brakes. They seemed rough at first, but after the proper break-in procedure, they're great.
  2. 14 Silverado w/5.3. Been using it for 2 yrs now. One thing I learned was to give it time to sync with the trucks computer by first turning on the ignition to where the dash lights up like a Christmas tree, then waiting until they go out, (approx 4 secs), before the final start. This will help to avoid any check engine lights or other codes from popping up.
  3. 14 LT. RF wheel bearing at 54k miles
  4. I had a transmission shop do the work. Just had a heart stent done with 2 more to go, (because of only 1 kidney), so I'm not able to do the work myself right now. This new cooler & the existing cooler are run in tandem. Were the tubing was cut, it was flared for a proper seal with the clamp. small, angle shaped aluminum strips were used to mount the cooler away from the radiator so road dirt doesn't get packed between it & the radiator over time. I was expecting to see a dramatic drop in trans oil temp but such is not the case. There is a bypass valve in the factory trans line that bypasses the factory cooler until the fluid temp reaches a certain temp. The added cooler keeps the fluid temp down for a very long time. the normal operating temp on mine used to be 196° after a few miles of driving, but now keeps it much lower, much longer. I can drive 30 miles & the temp is still below 190°. The temp eventually does get into the 190° range, but even when it hits 194° in stop & go traffic, that is just temporary as it drops back down once you get moving again, something it has never done before. I haven't towed yet with this cooler on, but my guess is that it will not allow the trans oil temps to go up to the 205° range while driving or even the 228° it got to at one point as I was maneuvering & parking the 6K pound trailer. It will probably keep the trans oil temp below 200° now. They did drop the pan & change the filter. A lot more piece of mind!
  5. Just passed 40K on my 14 dbl cab, 5.3L, tow pkg. Had a battery go wonky at about 30K miles causing all sorts of codes & shutting things down. Battery was replaced under warranty. No other issues except for the few recalls so many others have, but at least these issues aren't swept under the rug. I tow so I just added a B&M 14400 BTU Supercooler trans cooler as well as dropped the trans pan to change the fluid.
  6. PEOPLE: This post is about how many miles are on your 2014, NOT about your mpg.
  7. How does leather wear off? I have leather coats that are years old that have never had the leather wear off. Is it really leather or an feau leather, pleather? I have never seen the leather of a 60k Lexus wear off at even 4x that mileage.
  8. Dexos 1 from GM dealers is now full synthetic.
  9. The transmission temperature on my '14 Silverado 1500 (31k miles) with factory tow pkg runs about 194* when not towing. It has been like this since new. When towing my 6k lb travel trailer it goes as high as 210*. I do have the factory tow pkg which only has the transmission cooler that is within the radiator. But all non tow pkg vehicle's have that too. I recently needed to tow my camper using my buddies 2010 Hemi Ram 1500 with tow pkg & 104k miles on the clock. Out of curiosity I set his guages to display the transmission temp. It never got above 154* even after a 50 mile pull. Mine is NEVER below 194* pulling on that same route. Seems like the Chevy has an inferior tow pkg when compared to Ram. Transmission life is largely dependant on the transmission coolant temperature. I like the Chevy truck but it seems to fall behind when it comes to towing.
  10. 2014 Silverado LT. 4x4, 1500 DBL cab, 6.5 ft bed, 5.3L, 3.42 w/tow pkg. Stock control arms are steel. Magnet tested
  11. Update: At approximately 30k miles, I replaced my air filter. Much to my surprise my mileage went back up to where it used to be. Old filter needed changing but wasn't horrible either. still ran great. Let the motor breath & it's happier. Imagine that!!!
  12. I installed the Range AFM disabler today. Now it stays in V8 mode.
  13. I have a 2014 Silverado LT Dbl cab, 4WD, 5.3L w/tow pkg, stock tire size: P265/65x18. Gas mileage with the original Good for a Year tires was 22-24 mpg at 65mph. I replaced the original tires with P-series Cooper Discoverer AT3 tires, but stayed with the same size. Today at a steady 65mph it struggled to get to 17 mpg. My tires were even 3 psi above the door sticker since I was on my way to get my camper from winter storage, very flat terrain, & no wind. This was my mileage without towing anything. This has been constant since I got these tires about 3 weeks ago. These tires do have a more aggressive tire tread, but JEEZ......
  14. Unless it's a show truck, why would you even consider cleaning it?
  15. I thought about going with this size but......I have a 3.42 rear gear & by changing to this size would affectively change my gear to 3.26 due to the increased tire diameter. I tow a 6k lb trailer & need all the gear I can get.
