  1. They replaced mine once but the rattle came back. So a new one is on order. Supposedly gm made changes recently to help fix the problem. Fingers crossed. If not I will just go back to clamping it open and deal with the slightly louder v4 noise.
  2. I downloaded it from safercar.gov but I don't remember the link. Here is the cliff notes version. http://sandyblogs.com/techlink/?p=3296
  3. GM has a bulletin for it. Print it out and hand it to the advisor. That is all I did and they ordered me a new exhaust. Supposedly there was another bulletin in February that theyou redesigned the exhaust to take care of this problem.
  4. Also a little bird told me the flapper was relocated in front of the muffler on the 2017s to eliminate the rattle noise from the flapper.
  5. What do you mean by ticking in v4? Mine used to squeak every time it went from 4 to 8. The new one doesn't squeak but rattles under light rpms
  6. I'm on the fence about selling it or using the 3 inch piping and swapping in another muffler. I would have a hard time selling it to be honest, since I did not like the way it sounded I would feel terrible if I sold it then the new person didn't like it. But if you want obnoxious loud and are in western ny, shoot me a private message.
  7. I have a 5.3 in 16 and just drove my dad's 4.3 in a 16. The 4.3 is very rough with lots of vibration and it's kind of like stepping on a hampster to make the wheels turn. His readout said 15 mpg on the v6. The only nice thing about the v6 is it hardly goes to v4 so it seems smoother in that regard. My v8 spends half its time in v4.
  8. My 16 came with the 4 inch round gm tube steps the bend in behind the front tire. After 8 months the paint is riddled with rock chips. I have mudflaps on and hardly ever leave the pavement. This is a poor design by gm. The 6 inch rectangular steps have a plastic end cap to absorb the impact. The 4 inch round ones have nothing but exposed paint. A waste of $600. The attached picture has a little dirt but most of the spots are paint chips
  9. If you are in new York I will sell you my mbrp kit cheap. Had it on for 3 days. Way too loud for my taste but the overall tone was pretty decent.
  10. So after a few months of no noise after having my exhaust replaced my daughter said today "daddy what is that rattle noise?" Sure enough the second you touch the throttle there is a rattle in the exhaust. I clamped the flapper open and the rattle stopped. Is it worth having a new exhaust put on every 3 months?
  11. If you are going to plastidip your rims make sure you watch a few YouTube videos and do it correctly. Make sure you put on several Coates. I bought a set of gm rims on Craigslist that had plastidipped but the guy put it on too thin. When I went to remove the plastidip so I could redo it the areas it was sprayed thin did not peel off. I had to use a pressure washer and paint thinner to get it off the rims.
  12. I have a 16 v8. I rode in my father's 16 with a v6 this weekend. I was watching his display and it almost never went into v4 mode. His truck seemed to drive much smoother than my v8 which is always jumping in and out of v4. Just an observation.
  13. I was getting 18.5 MPG in normal commute b4 range. First 2 tanks with range were 16.5 MPG. Same driving style and distance. I'm not sure I want to give up 2 MPG for smoother shifts and better driveability.
  14. Drone and V4 noise are 2 different things. If you don't want v4 noise buy the gm with the flapper or plan on a range afm or tune to turn off v4. If you don't want annoying v8 drone at certain rpms or cruising the highwaY don't go with flowmaster unless you drive in someone else's truck first that has one. I had the force 2 50 series flowmaster and the drone was too loud going up hills at highway speeds for my taste.
  15. I just got one from range last week. It was version 7.8rx with a date of 12/29/2016
  16. Just had my exhaust replaced for this problem. Or you can buy the range afm disabler for $189 and you truck will stay in v8 so no squeak. If you clamp the valve open you will have a helicopter noise in v4 the flapper prevents otherwise.
  17. I just got my range. used it today for a 60 mile trip for work, mostly highway, speeds between 55 and 70, temp about 25 degrees. on the way there with range it was 21.1 mpg. on the way back (into the wind and uphill) i averaged 20.0 mpg. I could immediately notice how much smoother the truck drove and shifted. my only complaint, is the second i plug in the range, every bump it hit, it makes a plastic loose rattle sound. i shook the range unit, and it doesnt make any noise, but the second i plug it back in, the rattle comes back on every bump i hit. i could be the port it plugs into. not sure. anyone else notice a rattle after hitting bumps with the range plugged in?
  18. The mbrp I have is bigger than 3 inches so the 3 inch pipe slips inside it. Then you just clamp it. The magnaflow looks like you need to weld it with their universal 14 inch oval muffler. So mbrp sells a "mild" version of the muffler that came with my kit. Going to try that first. Same size so should be a 5 min job to swap. If not will find a shop to weld on the oval maggie.
  19. So I installed the MBRP kit, but it is way too loud. never thought i'd say that. need to tone it down a bit. the MBRP is a 20x6 inch round straight pipe resonator basically. looking to swap out for another muffler. everyone keeps saying on here they used a 14 inch magnaflow. assuming that will be quieter than MBRP that has no packing or insulation? Do i want the 4x9 oval 14" magnaflow MF series, or do I want the 6 inch round 14" magnaflow MF series? it doesn't list on the magnaflow website that there is any difference in sound between the 14 inch oval and the 14in/6 round. thanks for your help.
  20. Do you think the super 10 would fit with just clamps and the MBRP pipes, or was weld the only option? which is better for V4 hellicpoter and drone now that you have heard both MBRP and Super 10 on your truck?
  21. i just ordered the mbrp cat back single side exit, but was thinking of swapping to the super 10 and use the MBRP pipes. Was it a direct swap with clamps or did you have to fabricate and have is welded to the piping from the MRBP cat back kit? Do you have size/config/model number of the super 10 you used? the loss in mpg is probably from a liberal application of the gas pedal
  22. put the flapper back on or get the Range AFM disabler
  23. What is the latest version of the Range firmware?
  24. So that exhaust was for a 2017 regular cab 8 ft box. Flapper is infront of muffler.
