  1. Welcome Whoops, although I retired to SC I was born in Wenatchee and spent quite a bit of time there visiting my folks while they were still alive, lived and worked in Kennewick for too many years, spent time in Pullman and Clarkston too.
  2. Mike, any luck getting your 350 to run?
  3. Not to quick on 2 points, the second being no Quick Draw McGraw.
  4. Have you replaced the cam? If not that may be the culprit. That particular era of 350's had a batch of defective cams, if I recollect correctly it's the number 8 exhaust lobe that wears prematurely, the backfire is the clue. Happened to my brother with a 74 Camaro with a 350 and others that I have heard of.
  5. Participation trophy for spelling ceiling right.
  6. Good advice from diyer, he lives in some real mountains so if anyone should know, he would. Main advantage of disc brakes over drums is lack of fade, so towing a trailer without brakes down grades I could see a possible issue with your rears in that instance, but unloaded around town something else maybe going on as others have mentioned. In the meantime before any brake upgrades, while towing down a grade, make use of engine braking, use the tow/haul mode and manually downshift to a lower gear to let your engine help your brakes out.
  7. Sorry Grumpy, she was a beautiful cat. . . .
  8. Just so it doesn't appear that I'm picking on Mary exclusively, Mercedes is advertising that they'll be all electric by 2030, sooner than GM I believe. Toyota is the only manufacturer that I've heard that is taking a more cautious approach to going all in on EV's and keeping their options open. I'm not a Toyo fan but I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more of them on the road in the 2030's if the other manufacturer's don't carefully mothball their ICE engine plants so they can nimbly reverse course on what I believe is a very foolish business plan.
  9. One other thing I meant to mention, it's incredulous to me how anyone got to be or keeps their job as a CEO of a major corporation while ignoring the first axiom of financial well being that even 5th graders are aware of, i.e. not keeping all your eggs in one basket.
  10. A couple of things I've seen on the financial news the last couple of days have struck me regarding GM. First off yesterday Liz Claman from Fox Biz interviewed Mary Barra and when Mary was asked about reoccurring revenue streams she broke into a smile that would have put the Joker to shame. I'm pretty sure that Grumpy would label that a greedy smile. Mary specifically mentioned subscription services for super cruise. If GM's marketing arm monitored these forums they would realize how bad people hate having to pay to use something they've already purchased. Secondly this am a financial advisor said he would be shorting GM's stock given their all-in approach on EV's. The headwinds that renewables face and the shortcomings of EV's are well known, yet GM plows blindly down this path like a lamb to slaughter. The last sentence being my perception of his sentiment. Your thoughts?
  11. A little off-topic perhaps, but not a whole lot, one of my favorite movies from the 90's was Mel Gibson in "Conspiracy Theory". The take away at the time was if you throw enough conspiracy theories out there, one of them is bound to come true. Since that time there has been a watershed change in world events and politics, and a new mantra has followed, What's the difference between a conspiracy theory and the truth? The answer: 6 months.
  12. Just saw on the business news today that Volkswagen is going to build a new 2 billion dollar plant here in SC to build an off-road EV and p/u under the Scout name. Was news to me but apparently Volkswagen bought Navistar in 2021 and thereby acquired the rights to the Scout and Travelall names. Couldn't find anything recent on GM's and Navistar's collaboration on medium-duty trucks. Anyone know if that's still ongoing?
  13. Stan, that 275 hp 327 was a good performer. My folks had a 66 4 door Impala hardtop with that motor. Pretty sure that motor had a 10.75:1 compression ratio which was pretty stout for a stock family car engine in those days. Back on the farm we had 3 bulk fuel tanks, diesel, a tank for regular gas for farm trucks, and a tank for premium for Dad's cars. Back then octane was only a measure of research octane, not the average of research and motor that you see today. The premium gas we got then was rated at 100+ research octane and had so much tetra-ethyl lead in it, it was almost a purplish color. That version of the 327 liked it.
  14. All I have to say about the classified docu-drama and maybe the most worrisome aspect of it all is that Trump and Pence didn't have a ne'er-do-well son that had access to these documents.
  15. All electric here, I reside in SC now which generates their electricity from a mix, one small hydroelectric facility, one nuke, the rest from coal and gas. I was originally from central Wa. state which is very blessed with cheap hydroelectricity, 3 counties have their own hydro dams on the Columbia River and sell directly to the consumer without going through the BPA. Electricity is so inexpensive there comparatively to the rest of the nation that there are even a few free EV charging stations in those counties. If I still lived there would make economic sense to have an EV as a 2nd vehicle, a get around town grocery getter and errand runner.
  16. Old and retired here so not driving a whole lot anymore therefor my carbon footprint from fuel usage is pretty minimal. Methane has been identified as a greenhouse gas and is on the climate activists list. First climate warrior that confronts me with "I need to give up prime rib and eat crickets" will be lucky to walk away from said confrontation with only a zap from a cattle prod.
  17. More specifically lemmings.
  18. Following, as I also have a 05, with the L33, but with very low miles, only around 52k.
  19. For those of you that have been following Donstar's saga of downsizing and are interested and have access to RFD TV, they have a program on tonight 10 pm EST, 7 pm PST, Rural America Live, where they address the downsizing issue and offer tips. As for myself, I'm a dyed in the wool procrastinator, I have quit accumulating things tho, baby steps you know.
  20. Haven't had enough morning coffee yet, didn't get my comment attached to my re-post of diyer's pic, wanted to say about that bumper skier, when I was in HS we used to call that Higgybocken, I have no idea of the origin of that word, but I suspect it was the combination of the names of a couple of characters from a neighboring small town, Higginbotham and Bockemuhl.
  21. My answer is an emphatic NO, but I'm an old fuddy-duddy that was raised on a farm where at a minimum a vehicle needed to be a 1 ton with duals to be considered a real truck, anything less was merely a p/u. In fact at the time my home state defined a truck as having a minimum of a 10,000 lb. gross rating. But the vernacular changes with the times and I don't wince quite as bad any more at what qualifies as a truck, but I do hold the line at unibodies being called "trucks", they just don't have the load or towing capabilities to qualify in my mind. Am I being a hardass? Maybe, but just ask some of the OTR guys what they think.
  22. I really haven't had any issues with the GM card as of late, but I haven't been using it much either choosing to rack up airline miles on another card. I heard a clue on one of the financial networks a few weeks ago that might explain all the difficulties. Apparently Goldman Sachs is devoting more of their resources to investment banking, apparently at the expense of their consumer banking business.
  23. Saw a 426 Hemi stuffed into a VW Bug at Hot August Nights in Reno in 1996. Unlike diyer's example this was rear engined, took up the whole back seat area as well as where the original pancake 4 resided.
