2020 and up, dpf system recall
Wbrisett replied to shadow gray 2020 hd's topic in 6.6L Duramax Diesel (L5P)
Does anybody use the GMC App? I opened it up and it told me I had the recall on my vehicle. Immediately I noticed the Check Engine light appeared in the dash. I had the recall done and when I picked up my truck the check engine light was off. My truck had me sign into my account, which kept failing, then I remembered that I had changed my email account on GMC, so I created a new account. That allowed me to sign in correctly. I opened my GMC app and what should appear again? The dialog stating there was a recall and when I looked at the dash again, the check engine light was back on. Ugghhh... I'll take it back to the dealer tomorrow to have a look at it. But anybody else seen the Check Engine light behavior? I know the one person from GM monitors this forum, I'm wondering if this is normal, is the GMC app and the truck really communicating like that? -
DEF usage on 2020 HD models
Wbrisett replied to Wbrisett's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
@XY74: I'm in the same range as you, towing my Airstream 8.5-9K lbs. So looks like there's a couple fo data points we have.. Yours and mine. You're getting nearly 400 Miles per gallon of DEF, mine is only about 260 miles per gallon of DEF. I'm really hoping that it gets better. However, my usage was in the mountains, which I'm not sure has anything really to do with it, but apparently can affect things. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -Wayne -
DEF usage on 2020 HD models
Wbrisett replied to Wbrisett's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
As much as I wish I had some news here, my dealer is telling me that 7 ½ gallons of DEF under load for 2000 miles is about right... Sad that now we're going to have to start toting around DEF on trips. -

I read that bulletin, I don't think that's it... but it's worth a shot. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10176821-9999.pdf -
DEF usage on 2020 HD models
Wbrisett replied to Wbrisett's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Any idea what that bulletin is? My dealer says he can't find anything and service tech looking at the truck can't find anything, so he's saying 7 ½ gallons for a 2200 trip is about right. ? ... I find that hard to believe. Unless you're now carrying boxes of the stuff around all the time or can find stations with DEF at the pump, they are really handicapping folks. I think I'm using way too much. -
'Invisible' trailer camera calibration.
Wbrisett replied to Wbrisett's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
on the Airstream, the propane tanks are inside an aluminum shield/case. I suppose it could affect the initial setup, but I can get it calibrated, it just looses that calibration when the power is off. I guess the question is, how does this get flagged to Corporate GM? @MTU Alum? Seems there are quite a few of us struggling with two issues here and I would love to see GM provide a bit more assistance (my dealer would love to help, but he has no room on his lot for me to pull up my trailer and let them mess around with things). -Wayne -

Got an appointment for them to look into it today. I'll post how that goes. -
'Invisible' trailer camera calibration.
Wbrisett replied to Wbrisett's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Please do. One thing to note, I have found it calibrates better when going under 10 MPH and with something like a curb or lane markers. I'm guessing that those objects are used by the calibration software to ensure better stitching when calibrating. -
DEF usage on 2020 HD models
Wbrisett replied to Wbrisett's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
I too see even full that the DEF gauge shows one bar down. I might have a chat with my local dealer and see what they think. Just seems to me that 7+ gallons for 2,000-ish miles (closer to 2400) is too much. I do wonder if they need to reset something after reading that bulletin. -
I just returned from a 2,000 mile trip. During this trip I put in 5 gallons of DEF (and my GMC is telling me it's ½ full now and I have 1000 miles of DEF range left)... Really??? My 2015 Chevy 2500 HD didn't nearly drink this much DEF. I know emission standards have tightened up a bit, but this seems a bit extreme. Is 7 ½ gallons for 2,000 miles normal? (I'm guessing another 2 ½ gallons based on how much I had to put in last time). The only silver lining is I have a fleet account and can use the trucking lanes for filling up, which have DEF at the pump, but this usage seems way too high. What are others seeing with 2020 models?

'Invisible' trailer camera calibration.
Wbrisett replied to Wbrisett's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Calibration is a pain. Maybe @MTU Alum can comment on this, but I'm curious where the calibration is stored. I ask this because when I do get my camera calibrated the minute the power is removed (aka turn off the vehicle), I loose calibration and the camera has to go through the calibration again. I've seen some people have this issue and others don't. Which then leads me to question is this a hardware issue with the camera (some think it may be), or is this something that can be changed in the firmware of the truck itself? It seems fairly pointless to get things calibrated, then have recalibrate over-and-over again. -
In general I agree 100% with you. With one exception. It generally will cost less now, but that's because every year they re-evaluate the cost of parts and services... which never go down. The extended warranty plan I bought on my 2015, cost me significantly more on my 2020 for exactly the same coverage. That's not to say you can't sometimes get deals a few years later, but in general costs are continuing to rise and that's driving a new pricing structure ever year for the extended warranty plans. One advantage of the GM Financial one (at least what my buddy who spent a few years as a service advisor in a GM dealership tells me), is that they almost never had to fight to get extended warranty parts and services covered. Some of the other vendors really did everything they could to not pay what they should have.

'Invisible' trailer camera calibration.
Wbrisett replied to Wbrisett's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Interesting, @sdelam... that mirrors my experience. So I just looked at the box that came with my camera. Apparently the new part number is: 84946379 My camera part number is: 84876818 @MTU Alum: Can you tell me what has changed? Is there any updated firmware? Would the new camera behave differently? -
'Invisible' trailer camera calibration.
Wbrisett replied to Wbrisett's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Interesting.... I know my dimensions are saved with my Airstream profile. I wonder why it wants to recalibrate all the time? It does look great though. I know I read something about it having to recalibrate... I'll need to go find those instructions now. -
Maybe it's just me, but doesn't it seem like if you turn off your truck for something like fuel, that the camera system shouldn't have to recalibrate. I know the instructions say it has to do that, but seems to me that it really should add a feature to that says if the vehicle is turned off, then back on within a 30 minute period that it doesn't have to go through the calibration step all over again. I'm loving the camera on my Airstream, but I find it certainly takes a bit longer than 60 feet to get it calibrated and sometimes getting it calibrated before you have to go faster than 25 MPH is impossible. Anybody else feel that they should have some storage of these values? At a minimum I would think the way to do it is try the previous values and see if the previous values are still valid. -Wayne

doesn't seem anybody answered your question. Yes, you have all the right things for this to work.
-
I've yet to find the 'secret sauce' for getting the invisible camera to work with my 28ft Airstream. It will show it's 'calibrating', but never do so. To be honest, I'm not sure exactly what numbers I need to fiddle with. If anybody has had luck getting the invisible trailer to work, I'd like to know what numbers you have so I can compare them to what I have and have a play with all settings again.

Auxiliary Accessory Trailer Camera
Wbrisett replied to Scott Perkins's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
First off, thanks to MTU Alum, I was able to get the unit to try to calibrate for the invisible trailer mode. However, it never did successfully calibrate. I tried playing some with the settings, but no matter what I put in, it wouldn't calibrate. That said, I'm still quite pleased with it. It means I can ignore the less than ideal camera that came preinstalled on the Airstream. I stole Larry's idea and bought some of that non-conductive conduit and snaked the cable through since I ran it under the trailer. Unlike his clean line, there were a few more obstacles I had to get around on the bottom of the Airstream so my install looks more like a snake than a straight line. ? The only downside is while doing some test positions on the trailer, I used carpet tape and the camera fell off the back and wouldn't you know, landed straight on the lens, so now I have a small ding in the lens. It ends up looking like a spec of dirt in the picture, and I'm annoyed with myself, but what do you do? I will say that I'm right at the bottom range of the 200mm window they want due to where Airstream puts their badging. -
Auxiliary Accessory Trailer Camera
Wbrisett replied to Scott Perkins's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
So today, I had a chance to test the camera on the Airstream. I'm getting ready to fly out later today to the UK for a week, so I tested it and my wife wanted me to do more checking before 'rushing it'. ? Anyhow, I did run into a few issues trying to make it 'invisible'. My Airstream is 28 feet long, which seems well within the 10 meters mentioned earlier in the thread. When I entered all the data required it told me my parameters were outside the limits and thus couldn't do the invisible trailering. I've put photos in here of all the measurements. With the Airstream not being square, some of my measurements could have been off slightly, but not by much. Anybody know what the actual parameter ranges are for each of these measurements? I'm not unhappy just leaving it 'as-is' ... I tried both where the existing camera is on the top (not a fan), or the middle area of the Airstream, which I did like. -
Navigation in HUD question
Wbrisett replied to migrabill's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
I'm also going to assume you won't get any updates to the map itself without a data and/or traffic plan. This is yet another very under documented area on these vehicles (and seems neither GM or OnStar always are able to give you a straight answer). -

I would love for somebody to show us a photo of these. There's a real lack of info on what options we have and what the infotainment screens look like in the various modes. -

So, I'm curious. With it mounted there you obviously don't get the 'invisible' trailer, so with it activated, what do you see? I'm kind of curious. I have the option of removing the bluetooth camera that's mounted on the top of the trailer, but figured I would go with the 'invisible' option. However that requires putting some additional holes in the Airstream, and I'm never crazy about doing that. -

Wbrisett replied to Scott Perkins's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
I know! It's amazing how little info there is about these cameras. GM is advertising the feature like crazy on TV, but nowhere does anybody really talk about the setup and install. I plan on installing at the height just slightly above where the truck camera is (as suggested in the documentation), and to keep things cleaner, I do plan on running things under the trailer. I know that's not recommended, but especially on the Airstream you want to keep things 'clean'. I'm out of town next weekend and the following week on business, I'm going to try to see about getting it sorted by then, but we'll just have to see. The weather here isn't looking great all week, so I may have to hold off until I get home. But to do plan on documenting this as much as possible. -
Auxiliary Accessory Trailer Camera
Wbrisett replied to Scott Perkins's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Just got back from a trip with my Airstream, it came with a factory bluetooth camera, but requires a monitor that then mounts on the windshield and truth be told, the image quality isn't all that great. I really wanted to get rid of that, and get the camera, so I stopped into my local GMC dealer thinking that that I would order it and it would come in a few weeks later. Lo-and-behold, they had one in stock. So, I printed off my Reward points, and bought the camera. Over the next couple of weeks I'll be installing it on my Airstream. I'll keep you folks posted.
