2022 Silverado RST Z71 5.3L has DFM?
shanemoon replied to SquireSCA's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
RPO codes can be found in your glove box. There is a QR code. Scan it with your phone and copy it to a notes app or something. It will list out all your vehicles optioned codes. -
2022 Silverado RST Z71 5.3L has DFM?
shanemoon replied to SquireSCA's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
It will have a YK9 RPO code is DFM is deleted. It should also say "DFM Disabled" or something similar on the window sticker. Otherwise, it still has it. Regardless of what other people say, you will almost certainly be fine keeping DFM enabled. The percentage of lifter issues compared to total vehicles sold with this engine is somewhere in the realm of 0.1-0.5%. You're more likely to completely total the car in an accident versus having lifter issues. The internet can sometimes (most times) makes things seem way worse than it is. -
First thing you bought for your new truck...
shanemoon replied to CFRED70's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I don't like the look of side steps. And at 5FT 8IN, I don't have any problem getting into my truck even with a small lift. I did/still am contemplating the high clearance off-road steps that come on the new AT4/Trail Boss. I like the look of them and how low profile they are. -
Long, long term. Am I nuts?

Watch this video. EV's are not nearly as good for the environment as people think and companies try to advertise. -

shanemoon replied to TeamSaris's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
I have serious doubts about the future of EV's and going to "only" EV's as the majority of all vehicles. As I mentioned, there are some serious issues with EV's...not really in functionality, but the environmental and overall feasibility. -

Nope. It is what it is. They go back to the existing settings that you had when you last ran the truck. I personally prefer it this way. But it would be nice if they offered a setting to pick. -

Don't worry, gasoline isn't going anywhere. And diesel definitely isn't going anywhere. I don't buy EV technology longterm or even as a suitable "environmental replacement" at all. People don't talk about how the lithium and cobalt their mining to make these batteries is also not a renewable resource, and has pretty disastrous primary environmental impacts, more so than crude oil by a lot. This video does a great job at explaining it. -

I'm not sure about polysteel. But I assume it's similar to what other dealers advertise as "Zaktek". In my experience and from hearing from others, it's not a true ceramic coating. It's more of a "ceramic spray" similar to what you can pickup at an auto parts store. It's not nearly as good and not nearly as long lasting as a true ceramic coating, but should be better than nothing. But if they're charging you something like $1000 for the package, you're better off taking it to a detailer and having them apply a high quality product like Armor Shield IX by Avalon King. -
AFM/DFM Class action suit...finally
shanemoon replied to putz173's topic in Engines & Drivetrain (V8, Duramax, TurboMax)
All of this is overblown. Remember, anyone can sue anyone in the US for anything...and claim anything in their lawsuit. I can sue GM for my car turning into a rainbow elephant at night and haunting me in my sleep, and if I get enough people to agree with me, I can even make it a class action lawsuit. Doesn't mean it'll ever get anywhere. 9 out of 10 class action lawsuits end up vanishing. Also remember that GM has sold somewhere in the realm of 2.8 million of these trucks, with probably at least half being 5.3 V8 w/DFM. Based on numbers on this forum and just extrapolating that, I'd wager that there's maybe 1000-3000 engines that have this issues? That's somewhere in the realm of 0.1% - 0.3% of total vehicles sold with this engine.... EVERY manufacturer has issues during manufacturing. Bad batch of parts from a supplier, issue with a line process, assembly error, etc. If you have the issue, you just happened to get unlucky. Get the warranty service and go about your life. It's hilarious when people say stuff like "Oh I'll never own a GM again or GM is so trash, blah blah blah blah" based on such tiny numbers. Have fun with Ford and Ram's plethora of their own issues. -

Center console organizer Stubby antenna LED front turns LED reverse lights LED license plate lights If you have the money: PPF Ceramic coating If you don't already have rubber floor mats, I'd recommend the GM Z71 mats. They are amazing and I much prefer them over a Weathertech or other brand. -
To each their own. I for one, absolutely love autonomous driving systems. I too love to drive, but that's what I have my manual vehicles for that I can take out on the weekends. But when I'm doing an hour commute each way to work in stop and go traffic...I want to kill myself. And when I've had the pleasure of using a vehicle that has autonomous driving in those conditions, it improves my quality of life dramatically lol.

Not sure if anyone has shared this yet...but Diode Dynamics finally released a direct replacement, plug and play version of their SS3 lights for Silverado's. Super excited for this. These lights are amazing. Bolts right on and plugs right in. Available in both SAE Fog and SAE Driving beam patterns, so it can be used on-road legally. https://www.diodedynamics.com/ss3-led-fog-light-kit-for-2019-2021-chevrolet-silverado-1500.html

Converting tail lights to amber turn signals?
shanemoon replied to polski85's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
I do not believe there's going to be any way to do this. Since these trucks use the running lights as the turn signals, the wiring would have to be completely redone and BCM probably reprogrammed. And I'm not sure it's even possible. WAMS might be your best bet to ask. "Simplest" solution would be to have your reverse lights act as your turn signals, then use a switchback bulb from Diode Dynamics. https://www.diodedynamics.com/switchback-turn-signal-leds-for-2019-2021-chevrolet-silverado-2500-3500-four.html WAMS is probably your best source for if this can be done. -
Denali front lower bumper filler chrome.
shanemoon replied to Tip's topic in Modifications, Wheels & Tires
I believe you have to remove the entire bumper. You may see if you have small enough hands to reach the bolts holding the plastic bottom piece to the metal bumper, but it would be a serious pain in the butt. However in order to remove the bumper, you also need to remove the grille to gain access to the bumper top bolts. -
They're all separate pieces. You can take the bottom valence off. Pretty easy job to replace the bottom plastic piece.

2021 Silverado DFM/AFM
shanemoon replied to PClancey's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Every little thing has gotten us to where we are now. 1MPG doesn't seem like alot...but over the course of a year, conservatively that's anywhere from 1300-2000 miles of extra range. Or $400 in gas savings. (also it looks like the L84, 8SPD with DFM delete takes a 2MPG hit to city rather than 1MPG) And as far as technology goes...it takes small increments to make progress. We don't just jump from getting 7MPG to 25MPG in one generation of engines. It takes time and compounding change. I also don't know that I'd consider cylinder deactivation a "frankenstein engine" lol....the weird Ram E-Torque thing for sure, but cylinder deactivation is mainly software. Almost every car in the coming future will have some sort of cylinder deactivation. Heck they even do it in the Ford GT and most supercar/hypercars now with V8's, V10's and V12's....it just is what it is. It's a pretty proven technology at this point. And it is what has kept GM from going to a hybrid or turbo V6 like Ford and others have. So take your pick....turbo/hybrid V6 or V8 with cylinder deactivation....lol -
Rear wheels lock up after idling for 10 mins
shanemoon replied to Kookin's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Yes, there's a service bulletin addressing it. Take it to your dealer and bring this print out of the GM service bulletin. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10176820-9999.pdf -

Door handle push to unlock not working
shanemoon replied to Dambes's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
Lol that's sad but also kinda comical. Like someone played a bad joke on you. Made me laugh. -
There are two different antennas that work with the keyfob. One for the distance functions (remote start, unlock, lock, panic, tailgate release) and another for proximity functions (door unlock/lock buttons). The antenna for the proximity functions is located in the center console/jump seat. If you've recently done a center console/jumpseat swap, it's likely that you either didn't plug the harness back in properly or that the antenna in the new jumpseat/center console is missing/damaged. If you've made no recent modifications, there has been a few instances where there were issues with the keyfobs and how they were programmed. Your dealer should be able to reprogram them to fix it.

2020 Silverado-window noise/groan when wet?
shanemoon replied to jtlans's topic in Troubleshooting, Warranty & Recalls
I do get this on occasion. It's not very loud for me and only happens every once in a while. It hasn't bothered me enough and hasn't been replicate-able enough for me to take it into service for it. Seems like it's just something rubbing that's causing some weird resonance. -
This is unfortunately the way of the future. Unless legislation steps in to do something about it. But like Wiggums mentioned, it does ensure that you get consistent updates into the future. I'd rather pay the $25 and have continuing updates as opposed to not paying and having a product that never updates. Reminds me of the past when in-car Nav systems would only come pre-loaded with a certain map and it would be outdated after a few months/years when new development happened. Just be thankful it's not Tesla who's charging something like $250/month for their FSD.

Has anyone done a grille swap with a High Country down to a lower trim? LTZ, RST or LT? I've noticed that I much prefer the looks of the High Country grille and crossbar. I'd assume it should fit the same, but was wondering if anyone has done it. (don't yell at me for being a poser lol...I don't have $75K for a HC)

2021 Silverado DFM/AFM
shanemoon replied to PClancey's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Fair enough...but with that attitude we'd still be using engines from the 70's without any electronics....getting 200HP out of a 8 liter, V8 and getting 7MPG. Advancement takes trial and error. AFM and most other "banked" cylinder deactivation were proven to be inferior, so they've developed new dynamic systems that have proven to be very reliable. -

shanemoon replied to PClancey's topic in 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 & Sierra 1500
Your truck would have the YK9 code if it was some of the models that came without DFM due to the semi-conductor issues. If that is not on your RPO list, an L84 engine has DFM.
