Price increases would be standard fare. Although rumor has it, production may be back to quasi-normal, and "Truck Month" will actually mean something again. Would love to see a sunroof option on the extended cab, and a panoramic sunroof on the crew cab. Also for those of us who chose the upfitter switches, install the darned kit during the build. Tossing a kit in a box when dealers don't even want to do the install is really sad. An up-rated 5th wheel/goose neck pin rating would be very helpful. I just looked at a new cattle trailer, and may need to go Dodge/Ford to be "legit" for the road. In which case, it won't matter what else Chevy does.

Wow! What a difference on the paint. Looks much deeper. Just realized I was looking at a reflection in the tail gate... lol I like the lettering. That came out really clean.

I find the stock brakes to be spongy and lack feel, unless they are pumped once first. In a panic situation, they are not confidence inspiring. I can understand why someone would want to upgrade. @crookedpat before you do the upgrade, you might do a quick search regarding what others have done to positively affect the performance of the stock brakes. Something about pressing down on the pedal really hard. I haven't tried that yet.

Towing with 6.6 Gas 2022 GMC 2500 AT4
sheath replied to GovernmentMotorsFan's topic in 6.6L Gas V8 (L8T)
No experience with light loads, but others have, and can speak better to your points. FWIW: I've only towed heavy (14,300 lbs & 14,600 lbs) with a large frontal area (wide body 5th wheel travel trailer). Tow-Haul mode works better for me at that weight. Especially in the mountains. Torque converter locks up earlier to control transmission temps. The transmission programming in L mode could be better. under heavy load it wants to drop down to L2 at over 5K rpms, even under partial throttle. So I end up just slowing down, to keep it between 3,500 rpm-4,200 rpm. It can still out pull a loaded big rig up a 6% plus grade (not meant as a brag, it just does). I pass them going up, they pass me going down. Rinse & repeat... lol On the flat steady state cruising I can't tell any difference. Fuel mileage in tow-haul mode has been pretty reasonable. 7.5 mpg to 8.5 mpg. That is only a couple of miles per gallon off a stock '07 Dodge Ram with the 5.9L Cummins. However, the Dodge did a much better job of maintaining freeway speeds through the mountains, both up and down. Happy Trails! -
Hi Marv. I do the same as Another JR. Insert the nozzle as per the decal, and pull the lever to "implode my credit card" speed. I've never tried topping off the tank, so I don't know if it would spit back out. If you aren't "topping off" and it does this, I'd ask your dealer to look at it for sure.

I'll probably send a sample when it's time to change oil. More for personal input than anything. I'm not worried about 1qt of use during this period. I'm more interested in the analysis for the future.

Thanks. Glad the post was helpful. I had been keeping an eye on it about every other fuel stop. The truck didn't bring up an alert. Maybe because it was still right at the bottom of the dipstick.

FWIW: A little over 5100 miles now. A bit over 1,400 miles towing heavy (14,600 lbs wide body 5th wheel travel trailer). Oil life shows 25%. Lots of mountain pulling with grades up to 8%. Pulled through Cascade Mountain range, Sierra Nevada foothills & and now up into the rockies, So high loading on engine at low and high rpms. Just added the first quart of oil to bring it back between the add and full mark. I didn't do anything special during break-in (actually used cruise control on long freeway stretches for the first 1,500 miles). Didn't start towing until truck had that first 1,500 miles (only because I didn't need to).

Picked up an Eco-Hitch Front Hitch for the Chevy from etrailer.com Install was pretty much per instructions, except I did not remove the tow hooks. Instead I loosened the OEM bolts, and then replaced them one by one. Sticks out about as far as the license plate holder. I have the gas engine, this will help load the Snow Plow/Camper package springs when I carry the e-bike up front. Hitch is nice quality and made in the U.S.A. Truck is basically new, but that frame wax picks up road grime, so it was like working on a 20 year old oil leaking pig. Turned my hands and arms into black grease monkey ugly. lol My fault for not wearing a body condom.

When hunting out of state, I pulled a 3/4 ton Dodge 4x4. The class A was base camp, and the Dodge worked as a field camp. My brother had the perfect setup. Dodge Power Wagon w/popup camper that he also pulled with a class A. Starting to see more Class A pulling Jeep Gladiators set up for overlanding.

Great fuel mileage! And I'm digging the valve caps. America = Apple Pie & Chevrolet. You are right on "conical" being the angle of the lug seat. I think there are two different angles. But I can't remember which angle was for which vehicle. maybe @MTU Alum will know which angle fits these new trucks. Really glad to hear no issues after sitting in the parking lot. I know that is a big worry for a lot of people. I had a pair of subdued flag stickers about 6" tall on a Rubicon. Right under the "Jeep" on the front fenders. They were reflective at night. Need to find them again. They looked awesome on the Jeep. Would like to put one under the 3500 HD on the front doors. I normally don't do stickers, but this is America. Hard not to be a little proud... lol Happy Trails Amigo!

Thanks @MTU Alum This makes perfect sense. TAC case through dealer is a great idea. I'm guessing it won't be the first request.

Do you understand the reasoning behind disconnecting the batteries? Reason I ask is one of the most common units for a "toad" (vehicle towed behind motorhome) is a Brake Buddy. This style of unit applies braking force through the toad vehicle brake system by activating the brake pedal, which would normally activate the vehicles brake lights. It is powered by the toads battery system. They do offer a kit to connect directly to the vehicles battery. So a work around would be to use that kit, and also a separate tow light system. But it is clunky compared to tying into the vehicles lighting system.

Like those running boards. They look sturdy, and low enough that shoes would not kick the rockers.

Best reason to order a Sunroof
sheath replied to sheath's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Pretty impressive engineering that the cabin of a vehicle is built to function like a roll cage. New convertibles with the swept back windshields are a master feat of engineering when it comes to standing up to roll over. My first car was a '59 Austin Healey 100/6. Talk about a flexy-flyer. That more people weren't killed back then is a testament to Lucas Electrics (hard to roll a vehicle that won't run... lol) Yesterday's dirt road adventure lead to another fun hike. This time in Red Canyon. Big winds blew the dust off the trail, so the Sunroof was open until we parked. Bryce and Zion are getting packed, so we are doing things outside the N.P.s No pictures out the sunroof, but it did a great job of providing fresh air without getting a bunch of dust in the truck. Superdog thinks this small structure would be a great dog house, for when I get in trouble with swmbo. I'd need a bigger door, but otherwise agree. It would get used often. Some pretty cool rock structures. Kind of like Mini Arches/Hoodoos. -

Yesterday's adventure in S.W. Utah. Second time I've had the truck on fire roads. Dusty fun required closing the sunroof. This is Blind Lake. Really pretty area at about 10k' asl. Superdog is getting older, so we take it a bit slower, with plenty of rest stops. She still has heart of a young dog, and loves the exercise. So we are out pretty much every day. ETA: she is also a fan of sunroofs, except if we park under a tree with ticks... lol -
Right ON!!! Congrats Man. Looking forward to reading your impressions with the truck. It is definitely beautiful. Really like the black out package with the completely black hood scoop.

Best reason to order a Sunroof

Holy Let The Hail In Batman! That would not be a good thing... lol Everything is big in Texas, including the hail. But I'd still have a sunroof. What is life without the adventure, and getting beat up by Mr.s Nature every now and then. I've had the great fortune of many work visits to Texas (all over the state). Hard to beat Tex-Mex, Bar-B-Que, and especially the people. Made some great life-time friends, and increased my waist size all at the same time. -
with gain set to 10, and manual slider pushed all the way to full "on" you should get 12V. But, since the Chevy has a trailer sensing system, you may not see this unless the trailer is plugged in. You'd need a tap off the brake and negative leads. If your trailer will lock the brakes when connected to another truck, I would explain this to your dealership. Maybe bring both trucks and a trailer to the dealership so the Service Writer/Mechanic can see this. Hope you can get resolution quickly.

Best reason to order a Sunroof
sheath replied to sheath's topic in 2020-2026 Silverado HD & Sierra HD
Definitely a "love/hate" thing. Great responses on both sides. I've only had one person tell me if the car has one she uses it. Otherwise she doesn't miss it. -
Would be great if you could see the truck on the lot, to check the weight data tags. Just watch your pin weight on the trailer. When I first loaded out the 5th wheel, it was almost 3,400 lbs on the pin. This 5th wheel has a washer dryer in the nose, and I had about 1,000 lbs in the front gen set compartment. Most Toy haulers will lighten the tongue once weight is in the garage. So maybe a couple of bikes along with a Turbo Razor. If you don't already have a SxS, and want to get the purchase past your "Chief Finance Officer", you might try this: "But honey, we need the Turbo Razor in the back to keep the tongue weight in tolerance." (let me know if that works for you. )
-
Agree with your assessment on tongue weights. Great point! My biggest concern would be in case of an accident with fatality, where the investigation goes through every little detail. The load could be within DOT standards, but over the GM tongue rating. That opens up a whole can of worms in civil litigation. Thankfully with the 5th wheel I'm in good shape. But if I was pulling a goose neck live stock trailer, that has the potential to be an issue. Which in my case would require "more" truck than I need on a daily basis. I'm currently looking at this scenario and may just sub out the hauling, which is a whole other can of worms. lol

Great explanation for the downside of sunroofs. Surmises everything I've heard from those who wouldn't/didn't order one. The one in my old Dodge would leak under the forced air dryer at the drive through car wash. I'd put a towel down on the driver's and passenger side to keep the carpet from getting soaked. lol I still loved it though. Seeing things from a different vantage point is pretty cool. (picture out the sunroof of the old Dodge) -
Q3 is what I've heard as well. From the dealer and from the GM web site. Based on how long it takes to get trucks out of a parking lot, I'm guessing Q3 of 2025.
-
If I remember right it goes to about 4,600lbs in a crew cab. But how many Mother-in-laws do you really want in your back seat?
