  1. Here is a link to the oil you chose. Note Volatility is listed at 9.1 http://www.pqiamerica.com/June 2014/pennzplatinum.htm http://www.pqiamerica.com/noack.htm
  2. Low-quality oil can cause oil consumption You may also be using a motor oil with poor heat resistance. Conventional motor oils contain light, unstable molecules that more easily lift out of the solution in the presence of high heat, much like the heat of the sun lifts water molecules out of a puddle. As a result, the oil level drops as the oil is converted to carbon deposits throughout your engine.

  4. I read a article some time ago that intimated the Canadian built 1500's were mostly destined for Canadian distribution. I checked inventory at 3 dealers in this area and not one Silverado or Sierra on their lots are from Canada. About 100 trucks.....
  5. No. Where is gets built is likely dependent on some computer algorithm that takes in a similitude of data, most of which we could not even hazard a guess at. GM has 1,000's of suppliers that operate on "just in Time" delivery so all that has to be weighed when the plant assignment is made, not likely a human decision. I seen video of the "Just in Time" strategy that 100's of truck delivery parts to the plants within 4 hrs of the vehicle coming down the assembly line. Contrary to what many may think, parts are not stock piled at the plant. Almost every major component coming is dedicated to a specific build. Here is a old video on "Just in Time".
  6. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that mechanics know better, they go by the old petroleum adage of "Thicker is better". Go walk the Walmart parking lot on a warm summer day and you will have to hop, skip and jump to avoid stepping in leaked oils. Seals are the weakest link. Lube would be very clever to only leak on one side but not the other.
  7. Well a few years back I bought a truck that the dealer had to trade to get and since I knew the owner/dealer/salesman and he let me go and get the new GMC because it was going to have to be driven back and I was not willing to let some ahole drive it.. I had all the paperwork and what you show was the ONLY invoice on the vehicle and all the paper work on the business transaction between the 2 dealers reflected the invoice prices.
  8. This is a common oil leak site.....
  9. Likely only when the offer Employee Pricing to all. My last 3 trucks were purchased during that sale event, from stock.
  10. Unfortunately its makes no difference to them. Rarely does a dealer or GM back down unfortunately. Big mistake leaving that on the truck IMO.
  11. I wonder if the exhaust is amplifying it?? Making you more aware?? Don't know but seems plausible as I have heard others with AFM engine say it was worse with modified exhaust.
  12. I wonder how much of this has to do with CAFE? Too many V8's so they are throttling back and pushing out I4's? They have done this before, telling dealers they can trucks but they must be a certain configuration, only choice the have is color. Dealer has to take 10 I4's and they will give him a Trail Boss allocation.
  13. I have a 2021 6.2L/10sp and can't tell when DFM is working. ?Is your truck 100% stock, no oversize tires?
  14. I notice the dealers around here are suddenly flush with 1500 1/2 ton trucks, local dealer has 17 Silverado's and 9 Sierra's. Most are discounted ranging up to $3800, except for the 3 GMC Sierra Denali's at msrp, 1 has Super Cruise at msrp $86,640..
  15. ..............................
  16. It more likely the oil is the reason then the engine. Dexos standard allows up to 13% evaporative loss. Castrol Edge 0W-20 is 12% evaporative loss Valvoline 0W-20 is 11.6% loss Signature Series 0W-20 is 8.5% Better base oil dexos spec says 13% loss meets spec. I been running SS 0W-20 for 17,000+ miles and about 2 yrs, oil has not gone down any measurable amount. Don't believe me, google search "engine oil volatility" fwiw - Castrol (BP) and Valvoline (ARAMCO) are owned by foreign corporations, the later the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (ARAMCO). AMSOIL is a USA owned company.
  17. I agree. Most shops (and mechanics) will use the cheapest lubricants available. Many dealers are the same. If you want quality ask them if you can supply your own lubes. I had the GM dealer change my axles and TC on my Sierra and they only charged me $139 labor and I suppler the AMSOIL. It took a little longer because there is no drain plug on the front axle of new truck so it had to be vacuumed out and they had a machine that did that.
  18. When they get the vin.....
  19. Lubes N Greases magazine once stated "that there is no financial incentive to make an oil any better than minimum specifications". If it weren't for AMSOIL where would the Industry be today?
  20. Snake oil wouldn't be approved by API, VW, Mercedes, Porsche, Kohler and Briggs & Stratton to name a few. Or sold in many auto and motorcycle dealerships. Meets all OEM warranty requirements and comes with their own warranty. Never failed in over 50 years. Proven to outperform Mobil 1 in independent standard motor oil tests for over 45 years.
  21. I been using it since GM started requiring 0W-20 in 2014. I usually go 1 yr/15,000 miles but in recent years I am lucky to put 12,000 miles a year. I use the AMSOIL filter. Its in my 2021 Sierra 6.2L Just had it changed Thursday so next Xmas will likely be my next change. I have used AMSOIL since circa 1980's. As for dexos, if they put it on the label, it meets spec then it meets spec. They did not last for 50+ yrs by making things up. Friend works construction and he was working this summer on a windmill farm. Told me the monster turbines come requiring AMSOIL gear oil, labeled on the turbine. https://amsoilwind.com/
  22. To add context, I was in the GM dealer for service on Tuesday and was in the waiting room when the service manager came in to tell a customer his truck was ready to go, oil change I take it. The customer started asking him about using 4wd, should I 4H or AUTO, we were having some bad weather. The SM related that the state police/co's are told to keep their 4wd Tahoe's/Silverado's in AUTO all the time (24/7) no matter what. They have never replaced any transfer cases in any those vehicles and as you can imagine, they are driven hard. This is in Michigan where more the 50% of the time you are driving on snow and ice covered roads as well as the co's in the boonies all the time. PS-The new Silverado's the CO's have are Custom Trail Boss's less any decals etc. They even promote that every new CO's is assigned a brand new Silverado CC pu as well as boat, snowmobile, atv.
  23. Upper Michigan here, on South shore of Lake Superior. Predicting 2-3 ft of snow and blizzard conditions till Sunday. Got about 6-inches since yesterday and still coming down. Worst is about 12 hrs away the say. Do I dare use 4wd? LOL, locked that in yesterday...
