  1. Yeah, with all the trouble we had getting it back to town I never thought to check the dipstick till later after I was home.. Also thought about the coolant actual level in the radiator but there was no way I was going to crack that cap unless it was completely cooled off. This afternoon my son and I will go by and see what they found. I think they are tearing it down today. It's a dealership I have dealt with for many years. I actually was a mechanic there 50 years ago for the owner's father and grandfather and I know and trust the mechanic they have on it so that's a plus. Told my son last year when I gave it to him, he would have to spend some money on it. I was pretty sure about the fuel pump but didn't see the head gasket problem coming. If I was younger, I might have torn into myself but the last few years I've been sticking to the small stuff like an alternator, starter, battery's, you get the idea. Son's no mechanic, takes no interest. UPDATE: Talked to mechanic. He said the head gasket is leaking between I believe he said #3 & #5 cylinders. Said it's a common problem with that engine. Didn't ask about other years but he has seen it a lot. Always the same place on the same side the way he talked. Oil was clean and wasn't low on antifreeze. He didn't thing he got it that hot. Wasn't torn down yet so won't know if needs to be machined or what.
  2. 350 TBI. Truck has about 74000 miles on it. I bought it new. Gave it to my son last fall. Had been acting up some. Last week he took it to the dealer and they found the fuel was shot which I had suspected for quite awhile. Truck ran good for him. Couple days later ago he took it out for a longer drive and barely got it back to town. Couldn't pull itself up a hill it was so bad. He parked it along the highway and I picked him up. The coolant reservoir was still full but it seemed to be overheated. He had added some antifreeze to it a while back. We went back later and managed to get it to the dealer. I followed him back to town and didn't notice any white smoke. Next day they checked it out and said it's got a blown head gasket. I had the intake gaskets and radiator replace about 3 years ago for the 2nd time since I owned it. How common is it for them to blow a head gasket? Could it be the intake again? They haven't torn it down yet. With all the trouble with the fuel pump that had been going on for quite awhile, running lean, having trouble getting started I can't see any reason why that would have contributed to it blowing a head gasket.
  3. I went ahead and changed my battery the other day. Was losing some charge after a few days. Didn't want to get caught out on road this summer. I put in an O'Reilly's Super Start Extreme. Just a regular flooded one like it had from the factory. I got $15.00 off in rebates.
  4. I've been using this one on it once in awhile. Thinking about getting a tester though. I've got serveral batteries plus couple family members id could use it for. https://cloreautomotive.com/product/pl2310/
  5. Anyone here use a conductance tester to check batterys? Been thinking about getting one. Something like this one. Amazon.com: FOXWELL BT705 12V 24V Car Battery Tester Automotive 100-2000 CCA Battery Load Tester Auto Cranking and Charging System Test Scan Tool Digital Battery Alternator Analyzer for Vehicle, Heavy Duty Truck : Automotive
  6. No Costco anywhere around here. If I go with an AGM I'll probably go with one from O'Reilly's or a Delco. Got a buddy at a dealer that always gives me a good deal on the Delco's over the years. I checked it yesterday and it was 60% charged. I had drove it about 30 miles the day before. I put the charger on it yesterday and overnight. Just went out and it was done charging. I'm going to watch it for a while before I decide.
  7. 10/6/2 Amp 6/12V Intelligent Battery Charger / Maintainer - Clore Automotive I use this charger on it once in a while. I'm a little concerned about the AGM working with my charging system the way it's supposed to. It's had a regular battery from the factory.
  8. 2014 GMC 1/2 ton. Only have 18,000 miles on it. I've got a Delco 94RPG in it now thats 4 years old. Seems a little sluggish when starting like they do when they get old. Truck sets for a week or better sometimes. Some trips 20 miles or more but some short ones also. I have put a charger on it once in a while but I don't want the hassle of leaving one on it all the time. Would I be better off with an AGM or stick with the flooded battery like its always had? The wifes Cherokee has an AGM but thats what it came with from the factory and it has that stupid start/stop feature on it so I replaced it with another AGM.
  9. Thanks, that's what I was thinking. Pretty simple. I'll bet its a long time before they get around to mine.
  10. Looks like my '14 will be getting the passenger side airbag recall at some point. Do they have to remove the whole dash pad to get at it? Or do they replace it through the glove box area? I hate the thought of them taking the whole dash cover off just for something that will probably never cause a problem.
  11. I ended up going with a Delco. Stepped up to the 94RPG (Professional Gold 800 Amp 42 month replacement). It listed for 199.41. I got it for 150.00 plus taxes (164.39 total). No Costco around here. O'reilly's wanted 222.00 plus tax for a 800 amp battery. Autozone 222.00 plus tax for a 850 amp AGM. Both with 3 year warranty. I've had good luck with the Delcos. Glad I went ahead and swapped it out.
  12. About as long as I ever had on a original one. I always step up to a better Delco when I replace. Usually get at least 5 years out of them. On my old 95 I could always tell when it was getting weak by the way it cranked over. On this one it starts so easy it's hard to tell. I'm going to check with my buddy at the dealership and see what kind of deal he will give me on a new Delco. I might go ahead and change it. If not, this fall @ 5 years for sure.
  13. My original battery is 4 1/2 years old. Am I pushing my luck?
  14. I know that guy that helped with the article. Lives just a few miles from me. Be interesting to take him for a ride in mine and get his opinion. Mine doesn't do it too bad but it's like magicgoats, kinda comes and goes. Has to have just the right load on it. I thought maybe it was the exhaust system at first. Just never sounded like a differential problem to me.
  15. Man I would be glad if mine turned out to be something so simple. I'll check it out next trip I take but I'm not too optimistic that's what mines doing.
  16. Mine comes and goes. When it's got just the right load on it and approaching 60 or so. Don't usually notice it on a short trip to town. Kind of hoping they figure something out and issue a TBS or something. Supposed to take my service manager or one of the techs for a ride if I catch it acting up and I'm near by sometime. At first I thought maybe it was the exhaust system vibrating or the flapper valve within it.
  17. I don't think your driveshaft is turning when in 2WD. In Auto or 4WD it does. That would make the difference.
  18. Pop one off, the part number is stamped on bottom of it. It was discussed on another thread. http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/163102-2014-sierra-6-chrome-assist-steps-scratched-step-pad-need-replacement/
  19. http://sandyblogs.com/techlink/?p=3296 Did you guys see this?
  20. Mine does it also. I posted about it in a another thread here. It's not bad but you notice it. I mentioned to service manager. I thought maybe it was coming from the exhaust system. Don't notice on a short trip to town but when we go on our 30 - 35 mile trip to shop on a rolling hills type road I hear it some. Comes and goes.
  21. You really shouldn't be cursing at it. Just turn up the radio.
  22. The exact thing mine does sometimes. Intermitten buzzing sound from back end. I'm going to print this out just in case they haven't seen it at my dealer. Gotta take it in for the transmission line recall this week anyway.
  23. Thanks, mine is not lifted. I'm over in Ste. Genevieve, its south of St. Louis
