Shake or Vibration Issues
BluByU14 replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Ha.....sorry to be the bearer of bad news! Based on the research that I have done, there is really no rhyme or reason for the vibrations these trucks produce. Some people have different symptoms (vibrations/shakes/shimmies) that are produced at various speeds. Some people dont have any issues. Some of the problems have been cured by dozens of different fixes, but most dont get fixed. I guess only god and maybe some top GM engineers know why lol. Just a damn shame...... -

My 2014 Sierra was equipped with the NHT package and was bought back by GM for the unsolvable vibration issue. I was told months later by my dealer that GM ended up replacing both front axles which "supposedly" solved the issue and allowed GM to actually sell the truck. I was promised by my dealer that the issue wouldnt bleed into the 2015 model year and that was just a bunch shit.....my 2015 replacement Sierra vibrated, but I will say that it was not as bad as my 2014. Any hope that they will cure this issue for the 2016 model year would be slim. -

Wow.... I dont know which is more shocking.....being told they have to replace your engine or being told that the dude working on your truck got so frustrated that he quit. Good luck, sounds like you have a good case for a buy-back with only 1200 miles on the odometer. -

GM bought back my 2014 Sierra due to the "unfixable" vibration. Prior to buying it back they had swapped out tires, wheels, rf balanced numerous times, and changed out the driveshaft. I gave them my 2014 back in December of 2014, when my 2015 Sierra came in. Was in the dealer yesterday for unrelated service issue on my 2015 Sierra and I got to talking with my service advisor who told me they "fixed" by 2014 Sierra. He told me GM sent them some sort of new vibration analysis tool and that it showed the vibrations coming from the front end. They ended up replacing the front axles and he said it is now smooth as butter. I had a vibration at 40-45 then anything over 68 MPH. He also told me that they had 2 2014's in for service for the vibration issues last week. One was fixed by a driveshaft swap, the other needed 4 new tires. My 2015 has been very smooth with no issues. -

I wish someone could it explain it my friend, but it appears that there is no end in sight for GM to stop denying that there are issues with these trucks......some are greater than others. I was lucky to get one truck bought back and lucky that my current one is MILES better than my other one, but still not what I would deem perfect. I do have the upper hand in that GM has not completed my buy-back yet and has given me my new truck without me signing anything. They have already shipped my old one away weeks ago to try and repair it. Before I sign the agreement for the new truck I am going to push that they at least take a look at the wheels/tires.....but as I said before, more times than not, the new rig runs pretty smooth. -

I had a 2014 6.2L 6-speed 3.73 that vibrated really bad and GM bought it back. The only repairs that were attempted on it were tire/wheel/driveshaft replacement. Minor improvement, but still not great. My vibs in that truck were bad from about 68+. I now have a 2015 6.2L 8-Speed 3.23 rear. I have 1000 miles on it and I am experiencing what you are describing....a light/mild vib (no where near as bad as my 2014) from about 73-80 mph. I doesnt do it all the time and most of the time it runs pretty smooth. I mentioned it to my dealer (after going through all the BS with my 2014) and they dont even want to touch it and told me that new tires will solve the issue. I have been thinking about getting a set of Michelin LTX M/S'2 from NTB as they have a 30 day return policy if you don't like the tires. If that doesnt improve it then I will most likely just run the hell out of it until the problem either gets worse or I cant stand it any longer. I recently road in my dad's 2009 Silverado with new Bridgestone Duelers and could feel similar vibs/feedback from his truck. So some of these complaints may just be "in my head" since I am almost always looking for a vibration every time a drive it on the highway. I plan on taking my 2015 on a 2500 mile trip to FL next month. I will see how that trip goes, since 95% of the trip will be at highway speeds. The 6.2L/8-speed combo is an AWESOME engine/trans set up. Puts a smile on my face every time I get into the throttle. Other than the minor vibs, I have no other complaints about my 2015. -

That is interesting to hear. I believe you are the second or third person to have posted in the last week or two that their vibration/shake issue has "disappeared" simply by continuing to drive it. While those who continue to have the issues, that is may not be the greatest of news, but is semi-promising in some regard. -

That is just horrible and I really do feel for you my friend. Out of curiosity, how many miles to you have on your truck? Reason I ask is that GM offered me a full buy back because my truck had just over 2000 miles on it. They also offered to buy it back from me before the field engineer comes out and told me to continue to drive my current 2014 until my 2015 comes in (hopefully before xmas). I know they are handling these vibration issues on a case-by-case basis, but feel like there should be consistency on how they are rectifying it for their customers. Just my $.02. Hopefully the GM rep on the site can chime in and give you some help. -

My 14 does the same thing. Bad vibrations when it's cold....once it gets warmed up, vibrations are still there, just not as bad. -

I hope you are wrong too. I have my 2015 order in now. I think there was a post somewhere on here about how the 2015 Heavy-Duty's had a vibration/shake issues.....but that was only one rogue post. I believe. -

GM offered my buy back on Monday and I just put an order in on a 2015 GMC Sierra 6.2L 8-Speed today. They offered me MSRP for MSRP since only had 2000 miles on my truck and had the truck to the dealer 3 times since about 250 miles for the vibrations. I have to give a lot of credit to my dealership, they were advocates for me from the beginning. They told me that they wanted to make it right and keep me as a customer for life. I am just praying that there are no issues with this new 2015 . The salesman who assisted me with the buyback did tell me that GM is very aware of the issues with these trucks and wouldn't let this bleed into a new model year (so he says). I asked if the GM would offer me all my money back, if I wanted to switch brands. He said that if I wanted to go that route, I would have to take a few thousand dollar hit vs. getting into another Sierra. So given that senario, I feel like I have nothing to lose at this point and will take the gamble on a 2015. If this 2015 vibrates....I will either switch brands or go into a used 11, 12, or 13 Sierra/Yukon. Will keep everyone posted once the new rig arrives (8 weeks). Dealer said I could drive for a couple hundred miles before I signed any paperwork. Again I have to get a lot of kudos to my dealer for going to bat for me with GM and making things right for their customers. -

My truck is currently in for it's 3rd trip to HOPEFULLY fix this problem. So far the dealer has RF balanced the wheels/tires multiples times, swapped wheels from another set on the lot with different Goodyear Tires (went from LS-2 to RS-A's) and they have swapped out the drive shaft with no success. The truck has been in the shop for nearly 2 weeks now. Just heard from the service adviser and they are in the process of sending a GM Engineer out to inspect it. The dealer seems to be on my side.....both the service adviser and manager have told me there is something not right with the truck and they want to make things right for me.....they just have to follow GM at this point. Will keep everyone posted on the outcome. I am thinking it has to be something in the rear based on some of the most recent posts. -

I have a soft tonneau cover on mine. Before I took it to the dealer for the second time, I rolled it up to see if that changed the vibrations (long shot).......well they were still there. Took it to the dealer for the second time and the service adviser swore up and down it was my cover causing the vibs.....told them to roll it up and take it down the interstate. Guess what???? Vibrations still there! Sometimes I do wonder if it has something to do with the aerodynamics/harmonics all rolled together. When I get to around 65-70 with the windows up, I get that pulsating type sound you get when you have one window down cruising down the interstate. I have a video that I took this morning on the way to work. Will hopefully have it posted to YouTube soon. I have a 3rd appointment tomorrow with the dealer tomorrow. They told me that GM is sending some sort of "Vibration Analysis Tool" to help locate the vibrations. This should be interesting..........still doubtful they will find the source or the fix based on what I have read here. -

I am taking my 2014 GMC Sierra DC SLT back to the dealer next week. This will be my 3rd trip, with just over 2000 miles. Last 2 trips included, RF balancing and wheel/tire replacement all the way around. The service adviser told me today that GM is sending them a "Vibration Analysis Tool" to help pinpoint the location of the vibrations. Based on all the previous posts, I am doubtful this will locate the issue(s), but at least they arent giving up looking yet. -

Shake or Vibration Issues
BluByU14 replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
My truck has acted in the same manor......once you got above 70 MPH, it is just a matter of time before the vibrations started. Usually it was right at 72 MPH where it was at its worst, however I will say that this was not consistent. It may have not have been felt until closer to 80 MPH....just depended on the day. I have had my truck to the dealership twice within the first 1800 miles to address the issue. The first course was to road force balance the original wheels and tires. This didnt change anything. After my second trip (this past week), the dealer swapped out the original wheels and tires from another truck on the lot. I went from having Goodyear Eagle LS-2's to the Goodyear Wrangler RS-A's. While both tires suck IMO, the RS-A's are quieter and smoother than the LS-2's. This replacement seem to lessen the vibrations felt above 70-72, but did not totally eliminate them. I took the service adviser for a ride after the wheel/tire swap. He agreed that he felt a vibration, but didnt really seem to think it was a "big deal". He actually started our ride off saying "he thinks it is caused by my Extang Tonneau cover flapping in the wind". I proved him wrong by rolling it up and taking back down the interstate with the vibrations still present. He told me that "they have done all they could do at this point, but if I was still unhappy, to bring it back in". I explained to him that this IS a common problem across the 2014's and a short trip on the internet would prove that this is not a isolated issue. I explained that is most likely a drive-line issue (trans, rear-end, engine, etc) and that GM has admitted to being "aware" of the problem but not fully understanding the root cause or potential solution. The service adviser then told me "that he highly doubts it's anything other than a wheel/tire issue". Pfffffff....shows how much he knows. I guess at this point all I can do is just live with the vibrations as they appear and HOPE/PRAY that GM finds a solution for the fix (wishful thinking). I love every other aspect of this truck, but dammit GM, got your s*** together when it comes to these vibrations -

So I had some free time today on my lunch break to take my Sierra for ride. I decided I would take it down a newly paved stretch of interstate that I travel a few times a week. I usually travel the road during rush hour, so my speed and length of constant speed is very limited. I drove this same stretch yesterday and was able to get up to 70-72 for about about a mile and during that time the vibration I have been feeling was VERY pronounce. I get on the highway today and get up to 68 - 70 - 73 - 76.......no vibrations. I keep going for about another 5-7 miles with my speed varying from about 60 all the way up to 87.........no vibrations! WTF????? While I am happy to see that the vibration was gone or suspended for a short period of time, i know that it will most likely be present the next time I drive it. It still BOGGLES my mind that with all the technology and brain power within an organization such as GM, they cant figure this crap out. Love every other aspect of my Sierra, but this now intermittent vibration is driving me crazy. Sorry everyone for ranting.....but just have to vent. -

Thanks 2strokesmoke for the advice, I have been a die hard GM fan for my entire life and feeling like this might push me to another brand once and for all. My brother has a 13' Ram and loves it. I hope that I dont need to get a lawyer involved (money out of my own pocket), but if the dealer and/or GM give me the run around, I guess I have no other choice. FML...... -

I am scheduled to take my 2014 GMC Sierra into the dealer for the 2nd time to address the vibrations I am feeling at highway speeds (65 MPH+). The last time it was in the shop, they RF balanced all of the wheels/tires and replaced one of the original tires. I only have 1700 miles on my truck and it seems like this issue is getting worse. I know that there have been some members who have had their issues resolved , while most members continue to experience the vibrations after multiple trips to the dealership. I plan on giving the dealer one more shot at resolving the vibrations before I file with the BBB or with GM. That being said, is there anyone here who has actually had the vibrations resolved on their 2014 GM Truck? If so, what repairs or parts seem to resolve the issue? I tried to find some posts here that would speak to that, but with 202 pages, it's hard to sift through. I want to try and give the dealer some initial direction on where the issue(s) may be. The last time I was there, the service adviser did not have any knowledge of the vibration issues prior to my visit (at least that is what he told me). Also, if I do eventually file with the BBB, GM, or under the Lemon Law, are there any specific steps or is there any advice members can give me if I decide to go that route? I live in Maryland and according to the Lemon Law, the dealer needs 4 attempts to fix the truck. Thanks for any help! -

Hi KG, Thanks for the post. So did the replacement of the motor mounts help to resolve or minimize your dad's vibration/shaking issues? Also, do you know if your father had any issues when he had his truck at highway speeds (Speeds at 65+ MPH)? Thanks!
