  1. I'd bring it back to whoever you bought it from, and make them fix it. If they won't, make 'em buy it back and get another truck elsewhere.
  2. So that's the interior plastic tool we're supposed to use. I used a little screwdriver .. VERY carefully.
  3. My neighbor said he helped build it when he was 13. He's 65 now. Guess there was a barn 4x as big here that collapsed - they used all the good lumber from the collapse to build this one. I had a couple of the footings from it buried with heavy equipment - they were in my way big time. Only 2 left over there now. I just put a roof on that and the added-on back section in '12. Me and my wife did the back section - 3/4" plywood decking and TPO roofing - and I shingled the main part 100% myself - ripped to the deck and re-roofed. Hope I don't have to do that again in my lifetime.
  4. That means in 2 years, it'll be too small for ya. Our barn is 26'x36' - when we were looking at the property, I said to my wife, "I'll never fill that thing in 15 years". It took 5 ...
  5. Never fails, even in AZ!
  6. Yep - another season gonzo. Already have the heat on here. Only got to ride in my buddy's 700 RWHP supercharged '10 SS once this year.
  7. Yeah, bad bad bad - lots of moisture, carbon, acids, and other nasty crap that you don't want in the crankcase. Mine gets diluted with hundreds of gallons of used oil to heat my barn.
  8. LOL, yeah that's pretty pathetic! I'd bet with twin turbos, the OEM supercharger, and a big shot of NOS, it would still be under 300 HP.
  9. Oh wow, I can imagine! The supercharger in a regular cab short bed is barely enough power as it is.
  10. Yeah, it's pretty bad. My brother had the exact same but N/A engine in his Exterra - thing was completely sackless, and consistently got 13 MPG. Not a very efficient design. Reminds me of Chrysler's 360 in the early 80's.
  11. Could be anything on these things today. Main reason I NEVER wash my engine or compartment. I'll never dare. Don't need the headaches. Speaking of headaches ... did plugs and wires on a '02 Nissan Frontier, 3.3 supercharged. NIGHTMARE from hell! Welcome to the 21st century. 8 hour plug job, wtf. All this for friggin SPARK PLUGS. Also fixed some idle issues it was having. The TPS on this thing has a dual function of a TPS, and an idle control. Thing looks brand new, but whoever installed it BUTCHERED the 4mm screws. Luckily I happened to have a whole box of hex head bolts in the same thread pitch. Miracles never cease. Used the new Autel to perform an idle relearn. Running great now. Not impressed with the power output of this thing being supercharged and all. Felt pretty weak to me.
  12. My buddy bought a Mitsubishi back in '93 - right after it hit 50k miles, the engine grenaded. They left him hanging. Weaseled their way out of the warranty, and being young & poor, he never fought it. Actually, that headlight was what got the search for a parts vehicle going. We found one on eBay, used, for $140. My neighbor wasn't too keen on paying that for a used part, so I suggested trying to find a parts truck. I said, "If you find a good one, you'd better grab it." He found that one later on yesterday, and set up the deal for today. The rear door with the spare tire is bashed in too - body work on that would've been well into the $1,000's, and a replacement door, if you could find one, would probably be a few hundred anyway. Plus having that quirky and difficult to access FI system on there, a parts vehicle will be a life saver. I think he did good. Lots of useable and unobtanium parts on that thing.
  13. Nice looking Tahoe. I started tearing into a '88 Isuzu Trooper the other day. Needs a front crank seal, so doing the timing belt and water pump while it's apart. Thing is in MINT shape. Came from GA, and has only seen one MA winter with a knowledgeable and motivated owner that constantly hosed the salt off the undercarriage and body. My buddy owned it, and sold it to my neighbor after I set up the deal. I'm not a big foreign vehicle lover, but seeing stuff older than 21 years in excellent shape is great. Was exactly what he was looking for. His '98 Camry has every light in the dash lit, and no communication at the data link. I thought Toyotas run forever? It still runs, but can't be driven legally in MA. Figures. Another runner that has to head to the crusher, thanks to government ... but I digress. He's done with OBD-II and going back to basics. Since I'll be working on it, I am GLAD! Way underpowered & a little strange looking, but it does the job. Today, I took the Silverado out for the first time in 5 weeks, went on a mini-road trip north, and grabbed another Trooper for parts. An '89 2-door. Who'd have guessed we'd find TWO Troopers in MA that weren't rusted into a pile! I haven't seen one on the road in in years, and there's only one (of this vintage) on Craigslist anywhere in New England that's driveable. This one is in excellent shape too ... at least from the body upward. Frame is rotted through in several spots. Interior is MINT! Engine looks just a few years old. 5 nice aluminum OEM wheels too. Fires up and runs with a dead miss on #2 (yanked plug wire when running, and got nothing). Excellent parts vehicle. Neighbor got it for $800 - seller needed the 3rd member & rear driveshaft for another project, and just cut his losses. It's a 2-door too - guess there were only 1,800 of those made in '89. Yeah, big deal. Ain't no '69 Chevelle, that's for sure! Also got a supercharged '02 Nissan Frontier here for plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. Foreign-car central here this week! Sounds simple enough ... but the damn intake, coolant lines, fuel lines, and throttle body have to come off to change the plugs. Much rather be working on the Trooper. What a joke! Some Trooper pics. First the '88: The '89 for parts. In the first pic you can see the bent up trailer hitch from winching it. Thing was completely rotted out. Didn't notice until I had the truck winched all the way up on the trailer ... with no driveline or parking brake! I loaded it on a hill too - not where the pic was taken.
  14. Wow - you've got just about 2 tons over my little half ton.
  15. Reminds me ... I need to throw something in the Volvo for rear speakers. I've never heard speakers this blown in my life, lol. What a racket it makes past halfway on the volume ...
  16. Love those 1st gen Monte's. That thing is mint! Best color too.
  17. Looks like a good time there - lots of nice stuff. Yesterday a buddy of mine borrowed my trailer, and we hauled it down to CT in his '14 F-150 to pick up a supercharged Nissan Frontier for his son's birthday. I have to say, GM ain't got NOTHIN' on Ford - Ford is miles ahead of them in technology and comfort. He buys a new truck every 2 years, so reliability doesn't much matter to him. I would like to see how the Ford holds up with all that electronic gadgetry in the interior. Also has an unserviceable 6-speed, which I assume is identical to the GM unit. NOT a fan of that ONE BIT. I got whacked in the shin by those damn automatic floorboards. If it were my truck I probably would've had knuckle marks in the rear door after that one. It's got half a billion electronics in the thing - how about proximity sensors so that doesn't happen? Just changed the OEM 1156 reverse light on the Grand Marquis. It finally burnt out. In 4 months, we'll have owned this car 14 years - it had 68k when we got it, and was completely unmolested. I've never touched either reverse light in that entire time. There was a half inch of dust on top of the bulb when I pulled it out, lol. Just turned 236k miles. What is even more amazing is, the filament didn't even break!! Looks like some air got inside the glass there, and may have cause an internal failure in the "wiring" leading to the filament. Pretty impressive!
  18. Could always run 2 of them in parallel. Like running a heavier gauge wire. You could theoretically half the amperage of the fuses, so if one blows, the other will right afterward. Will definitely lessen the heat in those.
  19. Be glad it was just a ding. My dealership just about totaled mine when it was in for the 4th or 5th warranty brake job, and to fix interior squeaks and rattles for about the same time. Their lot tech drove it into the bay, and crushed the passenger side from bumper to bumper. I only found out about it after not hearing from the dealership for an entire day. I called, and asked, "Why is it taking so long for a damn brake job?" She says, "Oh, they didn't tell you?" ..... OMf'nG .... To top it all off, when I got the truck back, I parked it in the sun when I got home, and it looked like a 3D movie! Swirl marks jumping out all over. Had to bring it back and have someone with a clue buff it out. Never seen anything so bad in my friggin life!!
  20. Up here it's been a 3 hour process to get ANYTHING done at the dealer. I remember them giving me a loaner car (Impala) just to change the oil. They screwed something up, and I got a free oil change out of it. Was almost not worth the hassle. I went with my ol' man to the dealer with his '09 2500HD Duramax when it was under warranty, after the turbo hose blew off as he tried to pass a car on a 2-lane highway. We were there 5 friggin hours ... and after all that, they forgot to install the o-ring!! The hose blew off on him again down in GA. At least the dealership down there was 3,000% more competent, and showed him where the o-ring went, and what it looked like. Dealers! What a friggin joke. Thankfully GM closed the one where I bought mine. Incompetence was their middle name ...
  21. The 906TS. I originally was going to get the 908 Pro, but I doubt flashing ECM's is going to be a big chunk of my work ... or even anything I want to get involved in (way too much can go sideways ... and handing money to manufacturers that rip us off is not high on my list). Tires on the other hand, have always been my bread and butter. Good to finally be able to turn annoying lights off for myself, and others.
  22. Nice work GM. SMH ... Got a new addition to the toolbox. Now I can finally get into the magic box and actually have a prayer at troubleshooting these damn things. Tested it out last night & found my truck had 17 body and communication codes! Had no clue! Must've been either when my truck was at the body shop, or when I killed my battery running the Viair compressors for a half hour, key off. Nearly every system in the truck failed, lol. Had BCM communication codes, door switch codes, TCM codes, etc., etc.. Thing is wireless, so you just plug a VCI unit into the DLC, and you're off and running. Also has a built-in TPMS antenna, so I saved $300 or so on a dedicated tool for that. VERY happy with this thing! It's like a handheld desktop computer. Looks like I'm going to have to get Wi-Fi to make use of alot of it's features. A never ending wormhole of spending ...
  23. I had a terrible experience with those ThermoQuiets. I had to STAND on the pedal when I had the car trailer loaded. Was ridiculous. Immediately noticed the high effort braking the day I installed them. Ran them for 11k miles or so, and threw them in the trash - weren't even worn to 50% yet. I just couldn't take it anymore. Might have got a defective set or something (screwed up the compound? Who knows). I had ThermoQuiets on our Grand Marquis, and that thing would launch the passenger into the dash with a quick stab of the pedal. AWESOME stopping power with no effort at all. The total opposite of what I got with the truck. Go figure! Seems dust is a byproduct of excellent stopping power. No dust means more effort at the pedal. Good power / low effort mean cleaning your wheels every 200 miles. Can't win!
  24. On a different part of their site - hate when sites do that. Just put all the info where we can see ALL of it, WTF. Says there's a 2000, 6000, & 7000 series green. 2k for small cars, 6k for trucks, 7k is the low-dust version of the 6k.
  25. This explains the high dust you experienced with the green pads - found this on their site: While on the site, I see they now have 2 Yellows and only one Green. There was only one Yellow when i bought mine, as far as I knew then. My receipt says, DP41742R Yellowstuff Street and Track brake pad.
