4" BDS lift with fox shocks. 20x10 wheels, -24 offset and 34" ridge grapplers (295/60/20). Front wheels took a 1/4" wheel spacer to clear the caliper. I tried 35s and they didn't fit, would've required massive bumper trimming. The 34s still required trimming the plastic, removing the front mud flaps, and trimming the inside lower corner of the metal bumper to eliminate all rubbing. Once I wear these tires out I will probably go with the 35s and trim the bumper more, but wasn't prepared to cut it yet on a brand new truck.

Shake or Vibration Issues

Antone having any issues with the 6.2. Im close to getting mine bought back, Im not willing to drop another 15k on a 2500 so looks like Im gambling with another 1500. Maybe a more recent build date and a different engine will eliminate some possible issues. -

I actually had a sidewall blowout that kicked all of my issues off. I had them start looking at the vibration when I brought it to get a new tire. -

Lemon law in Louisiana states that deduction for reasonable use only applies to a refund, not replacement and it states that specifically. The dealer has been adamant they are going to deduct for depreciation, I sent him a PDF of the law and he said he would get back with the gm rep he is dealing with. I may end up getting a lemon law attorney if they stick to deducting for mileage. I shouldn't have to pay 5 grand to get a truck that works or just live with my defective one. -

how many miles did you have. I am not optimistic at all. Did you swap for the exact truck with same msrp? Im only prepared to pay the difference for any extra option it may have over my old one and thats it. -

They are working up numbers as we speak, they havent told me for sure, but Im not paying a dime out of pocket for the exact same truck. Ill leave my other in the shop first until every nut and bolt has been replaced, they can decide whats more cost effective. -

For you guys that got buybacks. What did they do about mileage, did you have to pay anything out of pocket. They are telling it may be .35 cents a mile, with almost 14 k miles I'm looking at 5 grand if they do that. Also the msrp has apparently increased 1600 bucks since last October so my same truck is now 1600 bucks more. Add whatever interest I've paid since purchase I'm poised to lose big on this deal. -

Get the dealership to do it at their cost. They had an alignment done at an independent shop on mine. Also RF balanced the tires at an independent shop. -

They are actually about to repalce the shocks on mine. Front wheel bearings were not an issue as they previosuly thought. Im pursuing a buyback so I honestly dont care what they do at this point and if it fixes it. No idea what Im going to swap it for. -

I thought about holding a clear glass of water on the steering wheel to see how that translates to video. -

I'll be sure to ignore the rest of your posts about unrelated issues as everyone else in this thread has already chosen to do. In your 2 argumentative posts you've already exhausted me and made me realize my mistake in responding. Good luck getting it fixed. -

Yes especially since you quoted it and they are right next to each other. I was reffering to both of of them, you are BOTH having problems nobody else in this entire thread is having and I have read it all. Nobody said brakes either discs/rotors are not brakes. -

These sound like totally different issues. For all of the problems with mine it stops on a dime with no shudder. I would first say warped discs but if it goes away when in neutral you may be looking at a transmission issue. -

How many miles did you have on yours when they bought it back? Ive officially requested a buyback today from GM and from the dealership owner. Awaiting to hear the verdict. Why did you go with another sierra? I told them I would consider buying some other GM vehicle but most likely not another sierra, silverado or anything else that shares drivetrain parts with these trucks. I don't want to be back in the same boat in a few thousand miles. -

Ive been wondering the exact same thing, that this is just how they are. Ive driven 3 now, mine, the loaner, and an identical z71 off the lot with 4 miles on it. They all feel about the same at speeds up to 70. There is steering wheel and seat vibration, I wonder if Im now just hyper sensitive to every little bump and if it actually is normal. I would love to drive somebodies truck that says its "smooth as glass". One difference however is i have a vibration and noise associated with speeds above 72 that is different on mine. But if thats fixed I guess I may be ready to call all the other vibrations normal since every 2014 Ive driven feels that way. -

in a mechanical system there are always tolerances for every part in it and certain ranges deemed acceptable. In something with as many parts and moving parts as a vehicle no 2 will be the same. Add to that assembly methods and different plants, techs, engineers doing measurements you can have variance all over the board. The design of the frame, engine, rear end, drive shift etc. Something is obviously too close to the limit when it comes to natural frequencies of vibration. When certain parts end up on the right end of the tolerances, and probably a combination of other factors such as assembly methods u get the vibrations showing up in some and not others. Talking from experience in mechanical system design. I have a bachelor's in mechanical engineering and am a licensed professional engineer in multiple states. -

Shake or Vibration Issues

Updates on mine. Quick recap so everyone doesnt have to go back and read through this thread. 2014 GMC 4x4 Z71 SLT Crew Build date 9/13. I dropped it off April 8th due to a vibration at all speeds in the steering wheel, once reaching 70mph a seat vibration started to become really noticable and extremely noticeable as speed increase past 70. In conjuction an audible noise inside the cab developed at 75 that sounding like a metal on metal vibration at a high frequency and the cab was much louder. Became really noticible at 80 and beyond. Things that have been done on my truck with no change. Multiple sets of tires and rims of all different sizes from other trucks on the lot, several rebalances and road force balances of my tires. Driveshaft swap from other trucks on the lot, a new driveshaft design ordered and installed. Motor mounts all checked several times All rear end components measured and tolerances checked including gears Complete rear end assembly installed. New exhaust system ordered and installed. Tires rebalanced and alignment done at an independent shop and all dealer machines double checked. They called me and said they believe they got the noise under control but the vibration is still there. The service manager also spent a lot of time driving my truck and 5 other new trucks on the lot including a 2015. He said 3 of those including the 2015 all vibrate similar to mine and 2 didnt vibrate. He also told me GM is telling him to tell me its just how the trucks are and they they all vibrate to some extent. I went over yesterday to drive my truck for the first time in about 5 weeks and kept it overnight. The vibration is still the same as I remeber it, however the high frequency metal on metal sound is gone (presumably the exhuast flapper) and instead a sound that I can only describe as a drone is there at the same speeds, starts to become audbile at 75, you know its there at 80 and gets slightly louder beyond. The vibration seems to correspond with the sound and it seems they are connected. The best analogy i can make is when you are on an airplane and you can here the slight drone of the engines from inside the cabin while at altitude. I think this noise was always there but masked by the vibration of the exhuast flapper and probably what was causing the flapper to make noise, now the flapper is silent you can hear the drone clearly. I also asked to drive a brand new truck of the lot with the same specs. I took it down the highway with the assistant service manager. It vibrated nearly identical to mine, however there was no noise or drone sound inside the cab. I took him on the same stretch of highway in my truck to show him the difference, he also agreed both trucks vibrate very similarly, but the noise was there and that I leave it with them while they try to isolate it. According to him they havent been test driving it at those speeds to hear that noise, and that it sounds like a front wheel bearing issue. I have my truck now and am bringing it back Monday for them to look at the front wheel bearings. As far as the vibration issue they state they have done all they can do, and I agree that the new truck I drove vibrates just like mine. I'm hoping once they fix the droning noise it will improve the vibration even more becuase the increase of the vibration and the noise feel like they are related. I havent decided what to do or if I can even ask for them to buy it back if the new trucks on the lot vibrate the same. Im holding my judgment and decision until the noise is gone and will go from there. -

You don't even need a lift, putting the rear end on 2 jack stands will work. You can also eliminate all the constant "it's the tires" comments if it still vibrates. -

Well my exhaust is in and installed. No change to the vibration or the noise in the cab. Service manager called me for the first time and was driving it. Asked me again to explain the issues because he wasn't sure what they were chasing. I guess he hasn't been involved at all. He almost made it sound like he was ready to say there's nothing wrong with the truck. He also said the alignment is definitely out. He's taking it to and independent shop tomorrow for and alignment and new tires. I've officially made the loop and am back to tires. I let you know when drive shafts and rear ends are being replaced again. I'm trying to get the sales manager on the phone to discuss a buyback, I get the feeling after the alignment they will be ready to say it's fixed and in spec. -

Well correction. They just called me back and said the exhaust is off my truck waiting on the new exhuast, so I guess I wont be driving it before the new exhaust is in. -
Shake or Vibration Issues

It was most noticeble at 70+ and there was also some sort of audible whine or noise, it was much louder in the cab than it was when I first bought it. I would feel it mostly through the seat and pedal, slightly in the steering wheel, and the pasenger seat would wobble to the point it was rattling slightly. At higher speeds I could really feel it through the pedal as well especially when mantianing speed at highway speeds or accelerating. There was also a slight side to side sway that I could feel. I honestly cant remeber what it was like at lower speeds I was so focused on the highway speeds since most of my commute is highway, I think the vibration was always there and increased with speed. I will report back at lunch when I go test drive it again and see what the lower speeds are like, my memory of its probably off since its been like 5 weeks since Ive driven it. -

Yeh its very hard to keep track, The driveshafts were actually changed a few weeks ago, Ill recap where Im at. Things they tried already and that didnt change anything. Tires and wheels were all rebalanced and road forced balanced, wheels swapped from a different truck. Driveshaft swapped from a different truck New design driveshaft ordered and installed Motor mounts changed (trans mount too not sure) Al rearend gears and assembly checked for tolerance issues. Entire rear end assembly replaced All driveline angles measured with specialty tools, determined to be within spec. Last week the GM field engineer suggested locking open the exhaust flapper and testing it, the service manager claims it fixed the vibration. They ordered me a new exhaust assembly and it has been delayed and should arrive tomorrow. I havent driven it since the day I dropped it off on April 8th so I cant confirm any effects anything has had. I am actually going up there today at lunch time to drive the truck so I can get a before and after feel to see if the exhaust truly fixes it. Im not very optimistic -

I think a lot of people have these issues but think its just how a truck should ride or either they are used to it. Mine slowly got worse over time to the point if I was questioning if the truck should ride that way or maybe it was just in my head because it crept up on me over time. I had the dealer look at it and they said in no way was that how it should ride. These vibration problems have different characteristics and severity between different trucks. Theres probably a larger percentage than you think of these lemon trucks between people that don't know any better, trucks where the problem is not as severe, or people that don't flock to the internet to complain. I've only driven 2, mine and the loaner they gave me, both vibrate. Thats 100% of the trucks I've tested. I've always loved GM vehicles but I wouldn't risk buying another one of these trucks if they bought me out, the risk of another lemon is too great in my eyes. And the driveshaft may fix one here and there but a lot of us including me have had several different shafts, of 2 different designs with no change to the characteristic of the vibration. All of the shafts aren't identically out of balance the same way.
