  1. Just looking at my truck & it has 4 main leaves & an extra overload(?) spring underneath the spring pack.
  2. This comment came to mind yesterday after reading the good & bad comments about Michelin's quality in the other ongoing tire thread in the Silverado HD section. My brother had 2 sets of Michelin LTX M+S tires on his 2016 2500 Sierra HD. He was happy w/ the tire wear on the 1st set, however the 2nd set wore out faster than expected. His set up and/or usage hadn't changed. Talking to the tire shop, they said that they had seen the less than satisfactory tire wear from Michelin tires.
  3. I'm wondering if anyone has just swapped out the high beam halogens for LEDs? I'll explain my question. In 2022 my nephew swapped out the halogens in my 2017. All was great in the fall, but once winter arrived & I was driving during snowfalls @ night, I hated that the low beams were LEDs. They were so bright it was like driving into a white wall. I'm thinking that by keeping the low beams stock I'd have better visibility when it's snowing.
  4. My 2017 2500HD came w/ them. I was not impressed w/ them being on my 2024. For an A/T or OOR tire, they look more like a steerer tire on a transport...
  5. I've noticed that the ride of my 2024 seems more compliant than my 2017 when empty. I asked my friend who did the dealer swap if the 3500 he drove was a dually. 'No & the ride was pretty good.' He's always driven 1/2 tons & has ridden in my trucks (all 3/4 tons) over the years. So I don't think he's ever driven a 3/4 ton. Are the T1XX HDs set up suspension wise so they ride softer empty but 'helper' springs take over when you start adding weight? I haven't looked @ the spring pack on my new truck to see how it is configured.
  6. I haven't really seen any assembly videos of the K2XX or T1XX, but is the front end sheet metal more or less integrated w/ the cab structure than previous models (GMT900 & older)? The photos I've seen remind me of the front end of a unibody car.
  7. A commentt after someone mentioned the duct work being more of a ram air set up than a cold air intake. With the diesel having a turbo, wouldn't that negate any ram air effect? Ram air might be more effective on a naturally aspirated gasser. On the GMT400, I remember the air cleaner being connected via duct work to the RH side inner fender panel to draw air from outside. Also about separate diesel and gasser hoods, the two models of K2XX trucks had specific hoods...
  8. See how much Canada has spent luring battery production...
  9. We hear/read of other alternative powerplants from the other automakers, but nothing from GM. I have read online (again take it w/ a grain of salt) that the recent wave of salaried layoffs was from the Ultium(sp?) section. Was their work completed or IS GM scaling back work on that side? I know back in the 80s a lot of the drawings for the GMT400 tooling were done by outside firms, not internally. EDIT: https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2010/10/gms-own-turbine-car-program/
  10. Saw this 'click bait' article yesterday when I opened Chrome on my phone: https://unionrayo.com/us/gm-cease-1600-workers/ I have never heard of the website, so I'll take some of it with a grain of salt. You have to wonder about GM's mindset of this full speed ahead on EVs considering what other automakers are doing. I never heard how far along Ford was w/ the retooling of their Oakville Ontario assembly plant for EVs when they switched the program to Super Dutys. Im afraid GM will wind up being dependent on vehicles NOBODY wants...
  11. Met a Hummer EV today on the highway. Looked like a bloated oversized pig just like the original Hummer...
  12. Put me down as a X2 on the fake hood scoop trend.
  13. I think you're right on that.
  14. Sounds like LOL. Truck #3 was the 1st w/ AC. I kind of think my 2011 (#6) was the 1st w/ power windows or door locks. The latter is kind of pointless on a regular cab, especially back in the S truck era. A paint mixing stick w/ a notch is a good low cost alternative. Used to have one imprinted w/ GM Oshawa Truck kicking around the house.
  15. Found it: https://www.forbes.com/sites/antoniopequenoiv/2024/04/24/general-motors-axes-onstar-smart-driver-system-after-privacy-and-insurance-complaints/
  16. Was there not a news story here or on GM Authority recently about GM getting rid of some software due to privacy concerns?
  17. Well it is professional grade... My father bought two GMC's and my 1st 2 trucks were GMCs (K15 & a S15). No difference back then but the GMC grilles looked better than the 'egg crate'. I always laughed back in the mid 80s new guys to the Truck Plant asking if there was a difference on the 2 brands going down the line. 'Nope, other than the model code on the broadcast sheet starting w/ a T for the GMCs & a C for Chevs'. We were building C/K square bodies @ the time. I think as the years & models have passed there has been dome divergence in content (I've been buying Chevs since my 94 or 95 so I'm not researching the GMCs). That being said does the content differ between the High Country & Denali models?
  18. Do you know if there is actually any difference nowadays in the process that metallic colours are an extra charge vs a few years ago? I know the Pearl of a few years ago was a pricy option.
  19. Friend did a dealer swap for the dealership he buys at. GMC 3500 crew cab Denali Ultimate w/ the Dmax. $135,000 CDN or $100,000 US. I hope it's used to pull a 5th wheel not just to impress the neighbours.
  20. Moving some lumber (real 2x4s) around today. Probably a heavier load than some of the advertising on TV. The laughable example is a trailer w/ a load of culverts on it it or just a large 1...
  21. I've had a pickup of each generation including a C/K square body, but don't ever recall a ratchet type tool for the spare.
  22. The only Sierra EV I've seen was on a car hauler going the opposite way on I'75 south of Detroit earlier this month. I just noticed the GMC on the 'grille' panel.
  23. My father was back & forth to GMARC (beside the Flint Truck Plant?) & Pontiac leading up to the GMT400 changeover. He was the power tool coordinator for Oshawa. He looked after ordering any new tools req'd & setting up the spare parts inventory.
  24. Oh I hear you. Spent 11 years in the Oshawa Truck. One day several of us toolies were commenting on the annual body changes which would've required completely new die sets. This was done with a lot of manual machining, wooden patterns & a lot of hand grinding/'spotting' in New Die Build. Fast forward to the CAD/CAM & CNC era & die making is much less time consuming. For the most part the automakers run a model for 5 or 6 years with a few minor changes mid-cycle w/o any change to the body metal.
